I'm starting a shapeshifting "thing," "club," or whatever you wanna call it.

It's somewhere where all the shapeshifters here can come to group/place/etc and like...do stuff. We could share tips/tricks or something I guess, or share something useful maybe. idk. Let's just start with this thread.

      so........yeah.

I'm thinking the key to transforming lies in the ability to control one's perception of what they are.

This one time I thought I was a sticker. IDK if that counts or not...
Literally, it was like all my memories of being a human were gone for a split second and I could of sworn I was this sticker just hanging out on a wall. Then suddenly I realized I wasn't and all my senses were suddenly flooded with what can only be described as dream bliss!

On a side note, that would be such a lame super power. Everyone else gets to shapeshift into badass monsters or aliens and whatnot, and I get stuck with a sticker!
Actually, the more that I think about it, life as a sticker wouldn't be so bad. No one could bother you or tell you what to do or anything! I changed my mind, I'll consider it a privilege to be the only person that was able to perceive the self-consciousness of some random intimate object, the sticker. Lucky me!

Speaking of transforming into a sticker... what is the weirdest things you people have transformed into? For me it was being turned into a washing machine by a wizard I ran into... evil bastard. Still doesn't beat changing into a sticker though!

That could very well be! I suppose a very powerful imagination helps a lot as well.

My weirdest transformation is becoming a tree, was very interesting though.

"I walk by some pavement and see a floating tree. It is not attached to the ground and doesn't have its base like it has been cut. The place which has been cut has a grey feather protruding from the trunk and this is magically floating in front of me. Since I had just become lucid and was trying to remember what it is I wanted to do with no luck I decide that I want to experience how being a tree is. So as I walk towards this floating tree I get underneath it and put my head into the trunk space which is open and hollow. I state my intention of becoming a tree and the tree comes down and around me enveloping me. All around me I see green fleshy material. It closes off and I am the tree now. I get a bit scared as my senses merge with the tree and I become it. Still, paralysed, yet growing and changing. My vision sees what is happening inside and I see the movement of some darker green substances in relation to the light green walls around me moving upwards via an invisible liquid. It is water I realise. I feel the sensation of growth as I watch what seems to be an internal time lapse of being a tree. These substances move up and down like a jellyfish. The scene eventually goes black and I am left in darkness still in the same position with the feeling of being rooted and strong. I wake."

It was a long time ago now, so I can't remember all the details, but I do recall that I felt restricted: my movements were limited to opening and closing the hatch (which for some reason felt just like moving my right arm) and rock from side to side. It didn't feel weird though, it just felt... unusual. I didn't explore my new form too closely though; I was busy cursing that damn wizard who, after laughing at my plight for a while, strolled off while looking all smug. Damn him...

I think the coolest/strangest transformation I'd ever had in a dream was becoming pollen on a flower. I know it doesn't sound very cool, but it was pretty damn awesome.

I started the dream in a field of flowers for some reason (I had gone on a hot air balloon ride a few days before and saw fields of flowers, and so I attributed it to that). There were tons of bees, and that got me thinking about pollen and the process of making honey. I started walking through the field and noticed a forest ahead, which as I got closer realized wasn't a normal forest. It was in fact giant flowers and the trunks were the stems. Curiosity got the better of me and so I continued my adventure into the forest of flowers, at which point I heard really loud buzzing and some pretty intense wind. When I looked up I remember seeing the black and yellow of a bee, but it was freaking huge. The flower it landed on started shaking and shedding pollen which rained down all over me, but I started running to get away from the bee, back where I came from.

After a few minutes I realized I was lost, and the way I came was no longer there. So I decided to take to the top of the flowers and see where the field was. It felt like a really, REALLY long time to break through the canopy overhead. When I got to the top the flowers were even bigger than they were before! I was basically a spec of dust on a petal, and I couldn't even see over the edge of the flower. Then I don't exactly remember how I got down into the actual pollen part or stigma (correct me if I am wrong, my understanding of flower anatomy is terrible), but I just remember being surrounded by bright yellow pollen. When I looked down to wipe it off of my shirt, I realized I didn't have a body anymore, or hands! I couldn't feel my body anymore or willingly move, which freaked me out a bit, but I managed to calm myself down.

Then I heard the buzzing again but this time it sounded like I was standing directly under a helicopter and the wind was whipping around me again. Then the bee landed on the flower and began "collecting pollen", at which point I was taken. I just remember seeing its huge black and yellow body practically bathing in the pollen and I started rolling down toward it and got snared by the hairs all over its body. Unfortunately I woke up before the bee took flight, but it was a pretty wild experience.

So, not sure if that counts as shape shifting, but that's my story

I say that qualifies as shape shifting, and a pretty awesome one at that! Travelling around in a forest of flowers like that is something I have long wanted to do in a LD, lucky you. In a way it sounds like such an humbling experience, to become as small as the smallest pollen!

Has anyone tried using invisibility to make shapeshifting easier? Does it work?

The best way that I've been able to intentionally transform is usually by teleporting. I'll change the scene and imagine myself in whatever form it is I want to be in so I don't have to watch the actual transformation take place. It works pretty well, but not all of the time.

I've been using a mirror in my dreams lately to perform minor transformations (which is still proving rather difficult) to practice.

I'm halfway there, taking form but not appearance. Like, my body would be in the shape, but I wouldn't look like it.

No, I didn't try this. But I think one of the experienced LDers on this forum mentioned something similar.

This morning I attempted to link a transformation to a common object; in this case, webs. I predetermined a set of possible TFs to occur when I am in contact with at least one web. (I prefer it to be random out of the list)
More webs = faster TF. Spiders act as catalysts. A large mass of them should make the TF nearly instant. <--(This was also predetermined.)
While lucid, I grabbed the first web I saw--in this case, I grabbed one strand and pulled on it. There was a spider occupying a nearby corner web. When it climbed on to me, my rate of change didn't seem to increase. However, it did increase by a lot when I saw another web nearby and grabbed the whole thing. Additional arms were forming, as evidenced by a strange pressure in my sides. At the same time, I felt the same outward pressure in my lower back. Perhaps I would have gotten a taurso if I hadn't woken up just then.

I was attempting the bonus task for the month of September last night, although failed, I will post it anyway.

So the dream started with me at the top of a skyscraper. I figured my best chance of becoming a planet would be in space, and so I did a quick scene change, to then find myself in the midst of pitch blackness, with specs of light in the distance. There was some nearby asteroids, smaller ones, clustered to my right and so I headed for the patch. Based on the space documentaries I've watched (thank you History and Discovery channel), I had a general idea of what would happen.

I started by "getting rid" of my dream body and becoming just a cloud (at least that's how I describe it). After that, I focused on drawing the asteroid cluster toward me into a tight, rotating sphere. Another cluster of nearby asteroids and gaseous clouds had appeared from seemingly no where, and so I drew them into my gravity field (which seemed to be expanding). I was becoming more dense and spherical when a strange, warm sensation washed over my dream body, maybe the planet core?

I had begun gaining considerable size when control started fading. The sphere of molten rock I had worked so hard on became lined with fissures and I felt the dream quickly fading. I attempted to stabilize it, or at least chain it into another one, but I woke up.
