It's because you need to practice. Accomplishing all that isn't that easy at first.
Each time you're lucid dreaming you're practicing.

You need to believe she DOES want to hang around with you. It is your world and you decide what happens at the end.

Sometimes DCs don't cooperate. You can use the "jedi mind trick" on them: look deeply into their eyes and tell them "you DO WANT this!" This almost always works for me. My DCs are mostly cooperative, though, and not very independent or challenging to me (though sometimes they fight me).

Yes as Sad and FryingMan said, you need to practice and maybe find some ways that are close to you to trick your mind. Like the jedi mind trick or something like that.
Mind will keep trolling you with unfriendly DCs etc but you need to keep trying. Be careful, when you use too much of brutal force (I mean too much focusing to change the dream) you might cause it to break.

Something that works for me when I want to control a dream character is I imagine being able to feel what it would feel like to experience their dream body. I don't know if that makes any sense.

I pretend that I am the dream character that I want to control (and I am them since it is my dream). Then I feel my new self (the dream character) doing what ever action I want to do.

The Jedi mind trick works pretty well for me too, most of the time.

If the dream character is hostile, I like to let myself feel love for the dream character and feel my energy merging with theirs until they are me. Similar to the first way that I described.

I guess you could also use dream items if you aren't confident in your own abilities. Find a magical amulet that let's you control anybody and anything and always keep it in your pocket. That way is probably more magical and fun.

This thread taught me to appreciate my dream characters more, all are so nice and co-operative.
Even the hostile ones in the middle of the fight!

me: "How is this even fair?! It's 3 vs 1 and THAT guy has an axe!"
      dream characters: "Oh, right. Sorry."

      - My tip would be to build this sense of union inside a dream. You are all in there together, dream characters are your 'helpers' on your adventures, so just be aware that they have no reason to defy you.
      - If you approach a dream character knowing they'll be kind, they really will in 100% (uh,oh, bold statistics) of the cases.
      - If you approach a dream character thinking -uuuh, what if he/she doesnt listen to me!- and start doubting in them, they'll most likely defy you at all costs. hah.
