Dream keeps self correcting if I try to control it - help plz

I typed a longer post with some examples in a dream, but I had to leave my computer and lost it when chrome crashed the page, so just a quick summery will have to do for now.

These are a couple problems I'm struggling to overcome in my dreams:

      1. There seems to be a "God" like creature or my higher conscious that scolds me if I go beyond whatever parameters the dream decided. I can act within those and use whatever powers, flying, etc, if the dream allows it. I can be fully aware I am dreaming and make decisions. I can sometimes even clearly read words, even sentences (seems to get forgotten just like any music that may also appear in my dreams). But if I go beyond, I get warned, lets say trying to fly in a dream that doesn't want me to fly. If I go past that warning, I'll get forced back into the scene or find myself landing back on the ground and stripped of my ability to fly. I keep it up, I'll be forced into semi-lucid and non lucid dreams for the rest of the dream, perhaps the night.

      2. Dream auto corrects and repeats if I try to change it. Let's say I don't like the outcome of a dream, and try to change it so the hero wins, evil does not kill, corrupt, poison, or chase dream characters, or I can alter the weather to prevent a tornado from forming, or anything desirable. The dream is determined too much to be stopped. I can sometimes temporarily alter the dream, but it can and will repeat. The dream repeats back to where it was before I made the decision. I can alter my decisions from the first repeat, but it will repeat again or find ways to alter the scene so no matter what I do to control it, the dream always maintains its own control.

I'm getting quite annoyed with this. I wish I could have full control rather than having to always be only semi-lucid. I can realize I am dreaming, ask the dream questions like "Why am I being shown this?" but the dream seems to know what I am up to and won't have it. If I try to check for words, it tends to give them to me. If I check the time, it will sometimes show me that. If I tell myself I am dreaming, it will say yes, you are dreaming. More less, this is the reality you are in for this dream scene and these are the laws of physics, gravity, etc allowed for this realm. If I can fly in a dream, it is because the dream allowed for it, not me.
      -------------------
One good thing about these dreams is that seems, when I analyze them when I am fully awake, they usually seem somehow relevant to my waking life emotions and struggles. When I can figure out the connection, I feel some sort of triumph in my waking life, and it seems helpful. Sometimes, if I am lucky, how I analyze such dream may affect the content of my next or future nights' dreams.

      Hey there,

If you'd ask me, I'd say these restrictions you're experiencing in your dreams are your own. Your mind creates them. Dreams are often shaped by what we believe they will do, by what we expect them to do, what we fear they will do, or hope they will do.

I've had similar situations like yours, where I wanted to overcome some element in my dream, yet despite being conscious during lucid dreams was still unable to do so. For me, the key to finally overcoming these obstacles has always been to figure out why they're appearing. What underlying believe, expectation, or association is creating these elements? Usually, when I figure that out, the element stops having any power and the obstacle never appears again in my dreams.

Though I admit, it often requires a good deal patience, introspection, and self-analysis before that happens.

haha, I think a lot of the time something happens accidentally in a dream and it effects your expectation or dream schema. So it happens one time and then you expect it to happen the next time. :/ Or it happens one time and it is inserted into your dream schema.

I would recommend learning how to teleport as a basis for lots of dream control, because it is a good way for the dream to correct itself the right way. For instance: wanna breathe fire? Teleport to fairy tail (see this). Wanna Kamehameha? go to to Goku and have him teach you.

when you realize that you are dreaming, slow down and repeat "I'm dreaming". If you continue to do this, you shouldn't lose your lucidity.

There are a lot of ways to get around dream control, but the best thing is to be creative.

One more thing. You are wanting the dream to show you something and you believe in a higher force, or a higher consciousness in your dreams. This could be the reason that you are not able to change the dream. You don't think that it is all in your head, you think that it is a stable thing created by something other than your "unconscious" (not subconscious) mind. So that might be why you can't change it, because you don't think you are in charge. Don't get me wrong, I like giving control of the dream to random things often, and even creating persistent realms and items and restricting my powers, but I don't think it should start this way. Work from a position of awareness. Slow down and become aware. Slow down and become aware. Figure out what you planned to do. Try it out, if it doesn't work, be creative. find creative solutions around you. Creativity is the best dream control, but it won't work if you are not aware.

I talked with a friend about the issue and their thought was that I seemed to have a common theme about things happening to others that I can't control (like perhaps bad things in the news) and that perhaps I should give up trying to fight whatever it is in these dreams. See what happens after I play the dream the way it intended, and then try to go about controlling the dream beyond that point. I've tried teleporting, looking for exits, generating doors and open windows. Sometimes it helps and I can get to the outside, but if the dream is determined, it will snap me back as soon as I turn my head or something.

I let go of one dream and let it play out what it wanted. I was on a boat floating on some water, having fun until a sudden black fire tornado formed in the sky and split into a black hole. I just looked at it confused and shocked. I knew it was certainly out of place. "WTH?" Then nothing happened, except I got transported back to where I started from, looked at the sky out the window and woke up from the dream. I am not sure on that idea since it led to me waking up, but then again I guess I needed to wake up anyways. I had one of those marathon sleep nights and it was around noon time. The good thing about the dream woke up feeling uplifted and energetic.
Interesting you listed "be creative" "Creativity was one of those words that popped up in the sequence of words earlier in one dream sequence when I asked the dream why I am being stuck in a building and just shown new rooms instead of going outside.) It showed me a sequence of words against a white background. Other words it listed was "Observe, idea, innovate, inspiration. Some of those words like, "creativity" I remembered right upon waking up. Others like "observe" came to my mind when it recalled my dream and replayed the scene in my mind. It seems I have a couple kinds of dream recall. I can either remember the dream upon waking up, or remember bits and pieces of a dream later on, spontaneously. In my dreams it works for real life memories. The dream spontaneously recalls my waking mind as if I am remembering a "dream" from the other side.

After another dream with another theme I couldn't change (the day after), it seems my mind connects back to the previous dream when waking up. I had the realization that being stuck in a maze (usually indoors, a building of some sort) is my dreams interpretation of my real life anxiety. That if I can become less anxious of that, perhaps I can better control that situation in the dream. Okay that makes sense, but it is going to be a bit longer than what I was hoping to do with just changing the dream scene as it comes up in my dream. It seems I somehow have subconsciously expected my dreams to help me resolve my waking life, it looks like. I view this as awesome, but at the same time, I wish it would take some breaks to just let me play every once and a while. Especially if I get stuck with a week long run of anxiety dreams, when in my waking life I feel relatively calm.
      -------

Overall though it seems my dreams this last week have been parallel to my anxiety and expectations going back into art after going through a long 5+ year run of not drawing. I did some sculpting and 3-d art, but had to stop for most of this year. I had carpel tunnel surgery last month and ever since then, there's been a few ups and downs with the hand, but I regained my ability to draw. In some ways better than I did 5-10 years ago. I'm surprised that the surgery would help so much with that. I am sure that wouldn't be the only thing. I must be having some element of determination. That said, it seems this connection did seem to allow me to have a bit more control over the "I'm being stuck in a classroom" dreams. I can't get out of them, but I can affect what I turn in to the teacher and my emotion about the whole situation. Instead of being anxious about being unprepared for the test, I can feel like I know it and turn in something that will allow me to get a good grade and pass the test. The last one I carved some poem I found on a sidewalk (in my dream) and made that a painting and turned it in. So it seems the better I can recognize my emotions I can alter the dream?

Happy to hear that your insights are increasing your control over your dream. At the risk of sounding all psychoanalytical, in my experiencing understanding where your dream elements come from and what they associate to does give you more control over them. Or rather, makes them less "insurmountable". Give it some time after you've had an insight, and you may just see the obstacle fade away completely.

Now I'm just shooting blindly here, but could it be that to an artist, dreams, just like art, are all about creativity and freedom? Whereas a physical impairment would be very much like some outside 'force' limiting that creativity and freedom, the same way that in your dream there's another force that's limiting what you can do?

I remember when I was a child and having issues with controlling my nightmares, I would have this "god voice" (loud, deep voice from the heavens) talk to me in my dreams. I would find myself asking it questions as to why those terrifying things happen to me in my dreams, and it would provide me with answers. Perhaps you can simply "ask" what the dream wants of you, figure out what mental block you or the dream is creating to make you realize something. (i think that's what the others were saying)

If that doesn't work, simply refuse to be a part of the dream, in any facet. For example, if you fly and the dream restricts you, don't even attempt to resist the dream again by flying, but instead simply walk out of the dream. Imagine a door that you just walk through to leave, there is no room that doesn't have a door. If it helps, imagine you just quit a really terrible job and now you feel liberated and free, and walk out the door into the world. If the dream(you) is smart enough to keep recreating the dream beyond that "door" just keep on walking. Pay no mind to the elements that want to keep you there and just keep on walking.

I haven't had much to reply on, just lately I've been stuck in a rut of fragmented- non lucid dreams.

re: Redrivertears: A few other conditions I face, Depression, anxiety (seems to be partly hormonal) and suspected Fibromyalgia (I keep missing the appointment to get that analyzed and diagnosed.) I guess my subconscious keeps blocking it from my memory , because I am honestly afraid of that diagnosis and really hope I don't have it, because of what restrictions it would place on my life and how other people would view me (job related and the like). Getting such a diagnosis would be a terrible block on my life. Perhaps explaining some of my dream fears? I also have dreams of having or knowing I have cancer, but I've talked with my doctors and not found that to be true. I guess lots of medical anxiety? I don't know why it comes out of the blue, without even giving much consious thought on it in my waking life.

I'm also on a med for that suspected Fibromaylgia dx from my neurologist: Cymbalta. If I miss a dose, then I am given a very vivid, often an anxiety driven type of dream. I wouldn't exactly say nightmare, but not quite pleasant. In the long run I find it helpful to see the dreams rather than have them suppressed.

This morning's dream was only partially lucid. I was stuck not remembering much of it, Only that I tried to fight the dream and change stuff, but kept waking up instead. Upon falling back asleep, I got put into a new dream scene, but nothing dramatic or plot like enough to really stay in my mind.
