Lack of light in my LDs

All of my LDs have taken place in the dark, as most of them are from false awakenings in my bedroom at night. While wandering round in the dark is nice, I feel like it's a detriment to the enjoyment of the dream. What are some ways to light up the dream environments I'm in? Light switches don't seem to work.

I've read a similar topic on here before. I think the general advice was to stop focusing on the fact it is dark and the dream will brighten on it's own. Personally the LD I had last night, when I became lucid it was quite dark and I believed my hand was in control of the light, wave to left is dark wave to right is light. So I just swung my arm to the right and it became a lot brighter and then I just mentally saved that image and everything was fine.

I have the same problem in lots of my LDs! Greg's advice is great. Hand being a control 'lever' for the brightness. I would like to add some other tricks too: _You have a touch phone device in your pocket in LDs! Use it to control the characteristics of the dream. _yell "light!", "light up", "let there be light!", etc. _call your dream guide and tell him/her to light the dream up. _take a flash pop from your pocket and throw it on the ground to explode and light up. _burn the furniture! Use a fireball if you are confident enough you can (you always can, you just gotta expect success. Doubt kills it. In other words, believe that you can do it). Use a match or something, take it out of your pocket. _put on night vision glasses (take it from your pocket. Lol gadget boy). Or tap on you head activating "night vision"! _go out to the street because it's usually lit up. Hope these work! But most importantly, don't forget to stay calm, stabilize and focus when you become lucid. Seriously give it a minute, not just a quick look at your hand. Trust me, it does wonders.

I have had a similar issue several times. Once it lead to a false awakening "in the morning" when it was light in the room. Funny stuff.

I've read a similar topic on here before. I think the general advice was to stop focusing on the fact it is dark and the dream will brighten on it's own. I have light issues a lot in a WILD/DEILD. Sometimes I get caught up in it and waste a bunch of time, but I find the best way to deal with it is not to worry about it. As Greg said it will clear up on it's own. Most of the time it brightens up totally or is a bright enough night scene once I step outside. There is an episode in the DV podcast that speaks on this issue. Mostly, ignore the problem and expect it to lighten up and it will.

^ This is the trick I've found helpful as well. This can be applied to other unwanted/distracting LD situations too, like finding yourself naked in public. Focus on something else for a while, and chances are it will quickly become a non-issue. Another thing I've tried a couple of times with success (whenever a dream is going along fine and then suddenly “goes dark” for no apparent reason) is to involve other senses for a bit—for instance, get down and feel the ground or touch your hand or an object to your ear, moving it around and listening to it. Often after a moment or two, a new scene will form and things get back to normal.

"Hello? Rock? Speak to me!" LOL'd so hard XDD Anyway you're right, just this morning I had a darkish dream and said out loud "light!" and the surroundings brightened up. It doesn't always work though, when it's pitch black, nothing happenes.

When I was a kid I had the same problem. Use the trick of creating a flashlight in your dream. Pull it out of your pocket. Use it when things are too dark. Each time use a brighter and brighter flashlight. Eventually you won't have to use it at all.
