      About This Technique

When I say that this is a new technique I mean it's new to me. I have no idea whether something similar has been discovered or practiced by anyone else. I don't have a name for it, wish I do though, because I haven't really found a way to express how it's achieved with words at my disposal. But for references sake I'll call it Clicking or Flipping from this point on. There are two reasons for this name. The First is that it's connected to when I discovered this control a bit earlier in my life and how it manifested on a basic level. The second is because it's just that, a Click or Flip; It's like you're clicking a button in your consciousness or you're flipping a switch. I've thought about it long and hard, about exactly how this control method manifests and by what means to execute it. The closest thing that comes to mind when describing its implementation are the words will and expectation. Though to be honest it's higher than expectation and may just be a cousin or even a branch of will. I say this because it doesn’t feel like will completely, it feels mutated in a sense, and it feels much more profound than just expectation. I'll go into this more later.

How This Technique Compares To Others

So we all know some general approaches to dream control:

      1. Verbal/Thought commands
      2. Willing
      3. Expecting
      4. Visualization

Verbal/Thought commands are simply you stating your wish upon the dream and speaking things into being such as "When I turn a house will be behind me." or "Increase clarity". I started with this method of dream control and it had a success rate of about 70%. Soon though that success rate fell and it became harder and harder to implement. Other variants of this is looking up to the sky and stating what you want or using "magic" language. This is completely different from Clicking as in clicking there is no speech or thought. Wrap your head around that. I actually did experiments where I used verbal commands to get my result vs using Clicking. Clicking provided instant results while verbal commands did not provide what I wanted.

Willing is hard to describe and I think the best way to describe it is to ask yourself what you think it means. Many books, movies and even personal accounts make it seem as if willing is the exertion of some unknown force, possibly mental. Many will equate willing to determination, but how do you use determination to manifest something or complete a request without physical exertion? Physical being a loose term in the dreamscape. I say Clicking is a cousin or branch of Willing (Will) because willing has some root in knowing and being sure of the outcome but also suggest that there must be some considerable amount of exertion whether mental or otherwise. And this brings us to expectation.

We've all been told that expectation is the basis of dream control. Which for many years I believed was true and proved it myself. Clicking seems to be an advanced level of expectation. As I said before it's one of the two things it's easily related and comparable to. But the thing is sometimes expectation doesn't work for various reason, possibly doubt, or weak desire. But with clicking there's this absolute surety. Complete certainty. As if you just know that your wish will manifest.

Clicking is the most distant thing from visualization. In visualization you have to imagine the thing you want, see it in a sense, and conjure a picture of it. With Clicking this is not needed. Clicking is actual more successful than visualization by far. The problem with visualization is that you often don't paint the right picture or you don't paint it vividly enough. Most times it just doesn't appear.

      How I Developed Clicking

So I've compared Clicking to mainstream control techniques and yes I know that's not all of them just the most common ones I could pull off the top of my head. But now you'd like to know how to perform clicking, how to develop it, if it's easy and so forth. I won't lie, it's hard to explain because it's so new to me. I haven't used it for a full month yet so I don't know the ins and outs, however I will tell you what I know. As I said before, clicking manifested itself on a more basic level to me some time ago. I actually wrote it in my journal on here(you can read it here). I was trying to perfect my dream telekinesis and then it just came to me, it literally just clicked in my head and instantly I had advanced TK. I played around a bit in that dream but after that dream ended I never managed to manifest it again. I didn't know how to. However several months later it returned to me in a different dream ability, the one we all seek at first, flying.

I thought I mastered flying when I developed a unique technique to easily and quickly fly. This was by just falling on my face. I know, sounds ridiculous. I actually discovered this when I fell in my dream once but realized I never hit the ground instead I floated above it and then slid back up in the air. I did this again and this time decided to stall the slide and maneuver the initiated motion into forward thrust, shifting it into a diagonal ascent into the air. I was content with this. But then one dream session I wanted to just float around, not really fly. I didn't use a mental command nor expect to, I just intended to and wanted to, this is why I attribute this skill to will, and I just floated from the ground. After landing again I tried to do it once more and there was a click, like a knowing, and I instantly took off. I have a problem with sudden and fast acceleration, it makes me fearful in dreams so I often refrain from flying up as for some reason once I start going up I never stop.

Now the final manifestation and what I believe to be the advanced level or true form of Clicking happened during hypnagogia. I was seeing a bunch of images and wanted to try out an old technique I had used to conjure different images in my head. The old technique was to just constantly repeat the word in my head and then different images based on that word would manifest. I did this with the word Apple. I then saw apple written on a blackboard, in the sand, on a digital clock etc. But that technique works best on the deeper stages of hypnagogia just before sleep and just after waking up. So I was getting minimal results and decided to stop trying. I watched the images randomly zipping across my eyelids without thinking of guiding them. But I wanted to control them and to develop a new way to control my dreams and so I just intended to guide the hypnagogia. The current images streaming at the time was a twitter news feed. It was scrolling down. I tried using mental commands like "scroll up" and “stop”. But neither worked. Then my thoughts stilled, absolutely zero, when I say thoughts I mean mental chatter, and I just knew that it would scroll down. I expected it to scroll down or stop, and it did. Without delay, or great mental exertion. It just stopped and went down or up I even manage to change the images to something else. A roller coaster. The tracks were appearing as it ran and I guided it to where I wanted it to go.

Intending to solidify this technique I practiced it in a dream just then after. Note this was in the morning and it's easy for me to go back straight into lucid dreams at this time. I rarely have lucids at night. I managed to tear a wall down, float it a foot above ground, jumped on it and used it like a flying carpet. No verbal command, no willing, no expectation or visualization. It’s as if I knew what I wanted was definitely going to happen. I was certain of its outcome and it became so.

How You Can Possibly Develop Clicking And Help Explore It

So to sum up you can develop this ability by clearing mental chatter and enforce certainty over a desire. Don't expect it to happen just know it will happen. Sounds unattainable I know. For some it may seem easy and straight forward at first but then when they actually try they'll find it's not what they thought. Like I said it’s really hard for me to explain because it just happens, I just feel it and it happens. It's even harder to teach or explain. So bear with me as I practice Clicking more deeply and thoroughly and dissect it to see what makes it work and the best and easiest way to execute it. But four things I know for sure that are involved are; A bit of will, enhanced expectation, certainty and a sense of just knowing.

I just wanted to share my thoughts and experience with you guys. I'd like your feedback and thoughts. Do you know of this technique or something similar? Can you make sense of my ramble and explain it clearly? Can you see exactly how this works? Please tell me. As I said I don't know everything about this. I would like your thoughts, comments and disagreements. It will help to flesh this out. Thanks.

Well, it'd be helpful if you had a way to flesh this out more and instruct others on how to develop it.

But yes, I have this type of control when it comes to certain things. I think, in a way, it's how I fly. I already know I can, it feels perfectly natural. To not be able to fly in a dream is as strange as it would be to wake up missing my arm.

I've also had such experiences in other dreams with minor dream control abilities, where suddenly everything just "clicks" and I have mastered that ability, but then it doesn't reappear in the other dreams.

So yeah, I get what you're saying, but it feels more like something that happens and not a technique in and of itself. It's essentially, as you covered, expectation. Clicking, as you describe, seems more to be that moment in which that expectation becomes a certainty, but not really a separate technique from expectation.

I'm glad to learn someone else has experienced this. I originally saw it as a "happening"; a state of being perhaps and not just really a technique. I call it a technique because it's a means by which to achieve control and manipulate the dream world. Yeah it's something like when expectation becomes certainty and that's what why I believed it was; a higher degree of expectation. I would love to teach others how to develop this but I must first master it myself. I would love your help too since it has been the means by which you mastered flying. For me to flesh it out I'd need to practice more and that's what I'm doing. Since I can achieve mutliple LDs per night I hope to have speedy progress. I'd like to know how you acquired this. What was your journey?

Hmm. Well flying was never hard for me. I had trouble the first time I did it, but never had issues otherwise. I liken it to the Clicking because I just knew I could. It clicked and boom, no issues flying.

And like I said, I've done it more directly with other dream control abilities, particularly shapeshifting. I don't really know how I was able to achieve it. I kind of just did. In the dreams where this happens, it's kind of like when you're about to score a goal in soccer (or something similar). This feeling washes over you, and you just know you're going to succeed. It all makes sense in that moment and you wonder how it took you so long to realize how this worked.

I actually did it the other night. I was trying to shapeshift and looked down at myself. I told my organs to rearrange themselves to my new form, something I couldn't actually see or feel, and then it "clicked." That's all I needed to do and the other changes would follow. Sure enough they did. The method, which I want to test when I get lucid again, was to make a change that I couldn't see or feel, and then because that change occurred assume that other tangible changes would logically have to follow.

Conclusion: I have no clue how to trigger clicking, it just happens. I think that perhaps it comes from doing something in a dream and noticing how it could logically lead to something else, then simply applying that belief and allowing your subconscious to perform the action, thereby giving you a sort of confirmation bias that reaffirms that the logic you chose to believe in really does work and you've figured out the secrets to the specific control method. Sorry for the run on sentence

It's ok I sometimes suffer from it too.

Right, I'm beginning to see it as such as well. It would make sense to approach it in such a way by using logic to cement the belief in the actuality of the ability. How about going one step further and developing your own logic and rules to pave the path as well. I believe once we realise that our dream is copmpletely and totally malleable by us then we can achieve clicking. This is how some people have achieved a kind of god like control over their dreamscape. They were likely keen on this from the beginning. Though I've come up with a new term for it: Absolute Certainty. It's plainly just that.

I believe it's a state of mind through which you can act with absolute control within the dreamscape. And the way to develop it is just to convince yourself that all things you desire will manifest. You don't have to try to create every detail and the technicalities of how the result will come out or even how the desire will be achieved and what comes after. I say just push forth your intent and let the Unconsious Engine take care of all the details and technicalities; it does this all the time anyway. I think it's time for dreamers to move away from the idea of asking the Unconscous to manifest what they want because that just ends up putting the control outside of them. Making them believe it is a thing of chance; chance left up to the dreaming/unconscious itself. This leads them to have lower surety of them achieving their desires on solely their own merit.

So I'm thinking the way to achieve the state of Absolute Certainty is progressively convicing yourself that the dreamscape is openly malleable by you. There are no true opposing forces. There are no true limits. Limits and opposition is only created by ourselves and our beiliefs. The Unconsious isn't an administrator who you feed requests to and then wait for approval or denial. We must instead see it as a mechanism through which we achieve our desires and whether or not we do achieve them is up to us and the state which we are in. So the deciding factor doesn't lie with the Unconscious but instead ourselves.

This morning I went through the task of experimenting with Absolute Certainty some more. In the dream I was going to my back yard but the gate was locked. I stood there, trying to convince myself that I could phase through the bars and ended up knocking my head against it a few times. But then I stood back as I remembered to use Abosulute Certainty and then intended to create a way through the bars. The bars then expanded and I went through. I did the same thing with the wall that was infront of me. It's face split in two to form a door way. Inside was kind of dark but flame lit. It was night in the dream and so i decided to bring out the sun. But instead of using Absoute Certainty I ended up using visualisation by mistake. The sky did brighten but the sun never came out.

I'm now thinking of other ways to apply this. What other dream abilites I can manifest using Absolute Certainty. Yet I don't want to use it just for dream abilities, I do that only to rack up skills that I can have at the ready. I want to explore what else I can use this to do. I want to know what you think I should apply it to next.

Hmm, I don't really have any ideas.

Personally, I like Clicking better as a name. At least from my experiences, it is more like a "switch" goes off in my mind which leads to the absolute certainty.

If anything, it would be interesting if there were dream control checks, similar to reality checks. Logical things you could do in a dream to check whether your logic is solid or not. So, a bad example off the top of my head: Clicking my fingers allows me to fly. Test: Click your fingers. Can you fly? If so, then the statement must be true. With enough dream control checks, perhaps, you could eventually realize that you can do anything in your dream so long as you come up with some sort of logic for it to function by, and really any excuse can be logical in a dream.

I'm not sure what I said above totally makes sense, but basically it's trying to find ways to confirm to yourself that you can control anything in the dream so long as you "know" how to do it. Thus, once you pass the logic tests, you choose to do something with whatever logic you want, and the first thing that works will always work for said skill.
