unstable dreams help!

Hey.

First of all, i'm not new to lucid dreaming, but i have only just started paying extremely close attention to WILDs.

I decided i would give it a shot, and did a full WBTB with mantras and magnesium spray. After laying there for about an hour and a half, i decided to quit as i had school the next day, and tried to go to sleep. When i did manage to get to sleep, i started having dreams about trying to WILD, which eventually led to me getting lucid.

This lucid was extremely different from all my other ones. The colours were kind of dull, even when i went to heaven, which was otherwise extremely pretty (i highly recommend climbing 'the stairway to heaven' ;-) ). On top of this, i suffered from IMMENSE dream blindness, and i had at least 30 (no exaggeration) false awakenings. Every time i would fight off the dream blindness and begin to see, it would come back as soon as i moved or looked around. Whenever i tried to do ANYTHING, false awakening.

I've been thinking as to why this might have happened, and have some ideas, but i would really like to know an outside perspective.

I think it could possibly be that i was quite ticked off that it hadn't worked, and kinda scared that i wouldnt get to sleep, so some of that emotion might have carried through.

other than that, i have no idea.

You need to calm down and try to stabilization techniques, your mind must accept the current dream world as a reality.

Yeah, it hasn't happened since, so i guess my annoyance at 'failing' was carried over and affecting the quality of my dream. Coz the colours were washed out as well, and in my dreams they are normally EXTREMELY vibrant. Thanks :P

This happens to me aswell, I also wrote a post about it a while back! The false awakenings drive me crazy! Everytime I try to leave the house I wake up again back in my bed...one time I questioned whether I was ever going to wake up for real it happened so many times! !

Yeah. Looking back, i think that the best thing to do would be to just do alternate things
for example, if you keep waking up when you walk out of the door,
try opening a portal up in the floor, or even just turn your house into the place you want to be. I don't really know, i'm just guessing that experimenting with alternatives would be a better course of action. :D

I find that feeling tactile properties of dream objects stabilize dreams. Feeling the object texture somehow connects me with dream even more.

Yeah. People say rubbing your hands or touching objects is good, but from personal experience, the thing that made my dream most vivid was running my fingers through my hair

I think you're probably right when you say you think the multiple false awakenings happened because you were frustrated. Frustration is the enemy! :lol:

I second Hitokage when he says that you need to practice dream stabilization. If running your fingers through your hair works very well for you, then don't be afraid to do it all the time! XD A lot of times if we get frustrated in our dreams, things like that can happen. One time I got so frustrated from my false awakenings that even when I realized I was sleeping I tried to ignore the fact. Air planes started crashing from the sky and burning the land and all the while I'm trying to walk away from it. "Nope, nope, not a dream. I'm tired of dreaming, I want to be awake."

Yeah. Well so far i haven't had anything else like that, but now i'm suffering with vivid but short lucids,
so it doesn't seem like i need to stabilise at the start (because it is so vivid) so i just jump into it,
then wake up almost instantly.

I needa remind myself to stabilise.

It also happens to me sometimes when everything is very dark and it's hard to see. Sometimes when this happens it is also really hard for me to move. I'm not sure what causes it to be honest.

You could also try spinning. I just started the spinning technique recently and it works incredibly well to stop a dream from fading. I usually try grabbing onto a nearby object and focusing on it intensely, but if that doesn't work I just start spinning and reset the dream into a new scene.

False awakenings can be really annoying too. I had one last night but I just lay in bed and tried to project out of my body which worked really well.

what you described first sounds like 'the void'
i couldn't find any articles on it on dreamviews sadly,
so maybe try trauling the internet for something on it
or listen to one of the 'Lucid for Life podcasts' on the void
