      Flying Stories!!! Learning/Best/Advice

This thread is for us to discuss flying. I am sure many of you either love flying or want to learn lucid dreaming because you would love to have the experience of flying. You may not realize most of us could not fly when we first learned to get lucid in dreams. Share your stories of your early experiences learning to fly or levitate. Share stories of flight you think others will enjoy, ask questions of others or drop solid advice you have found worked for you.

I flat out could not fly in my first dreams. I had to learn any sort of dream control through experimenting. If I tried to just believe I could fly, I had not experienced it so truth be told I did not believe it would work on some level. I remember hanging from a tree up off the ground and trying to let go and stay up in the air. This was not very successful. What finally worked for me was jumping. You know how the Hulk travels? I started with just doing basic athletic stuff like running and jumping to get used to making my dream body do stuff. I could jump much further than normal and soon could leap over cars. Next I worked on jumping up onto the roof of one story buildings. Next over the buildings. I would travel by jumping say 100 feet at a time. This did get me used to doing magical seeming things which made flying seem more believable and with in my grasp.

The big break through for me was when I learn TK. I started with small items such as peanuts or marbles and learned to float them above the palm of my hand. I started to really understand TK and could move furniture or bring an item to me from across a room. Suddenly it occurred to me! Pick your self up using TK. Don't think about flight; you can pick up a couch why not yourself. It worked! I came of the ground like Dr. Strange or Magneto! That was the start of amazing flying adventures. I love playing with different ways of flying and pushing my limits. Why can't I go ultra fast? I can use special effects like blurring the scenery (think hyperdrive lines) to make it seem like I flew a thousand miles in a moment. What I mean is why can't I fly across my home valley, say eight miles any faster than say 2 1/2 minutes. That is kind of fast like say a basic helicopter, but I want true jet speed. I sometimes summon an industrial area that would have cargo plane and try to race them. I do not do that well. I can get caught up to them sometimes so I am improving. Doesn't it seem like I should just believe I am faster than a jet and it would work? Hey, I can go a couple hundred miles an hour or so and that rocks, but it is not jet speed. Yet, lol.

One of my best flying moments was trying to show off my skill at fine control. What I did was sit cross legged and float up about three feet off the ground. I brought my hands into focus and did mudra hand patterns while chanting (could hear the sounds being made), Next I carefully rotated my body in space until my head was below me. I was still sitting cross legged but upside down and floating, doing hand patterns and chanting. I then started to move forward. Good images of quiet roads appeared for me and lovely flowering trees provided great scenery. I ended up going about as fast as you could on a bicycle. It lost its fun when my brain decided to be funny and I lost height, which meant my head started dragging on the ground.
If this thread gets enough cool stuff I may make it a dream control sticky. Looking forward to hearing from my dreaming friends and hope you lurkers who want to get this kind of entertainment get some encouragement and hope that this could be you flying.

Nice... Finally hearing of someone learning to fly the same way I did. lol. I always tell people, practice TK, then simply use it on yourself. No better way to learn perfect flying control in my opinion. Until you get so used to flying you do it without even thinking about how you're doing it anymore.

Copy of another post I made recently about how I learned to fly.

In the early days of my lucid dreaming. One night I had a lucid where I was struggling to fly, and I was flapping my arms like a bird in my dream. The next day contemplating the experience I was thinking to myself how silly it seems to try to flap arms in a dream to fly. Since for one thing there is no real gravity. And if there was real gravity, like in waking life, flapping my arms would do absolutely nothing to get me off the ground. So why in a dream? Would I be trying to flap my arms like a bird? Makes no sense at all.

Thinking along those lines I realized I should be able to just move myself by will alone. That's when I realized, like a light bulb moment. Duh... (Just as Sivason mentions) At that point I had already been getting good with telekinesis. Using my mind to move objects around. Why not just use telekinesis on myself in the same manner?

So in my very next lucid dream I tried it and it worked perfectly! Instantly I had perfect control of my flying using telekinesis on myself. No silly arms flapping required...

But at some point flying became so natural in lucid dreams I didn't need to think about how I was doing it anymore. Similar to walking in waking life, I think. You just do it, you're not thinking about how you're doing it.

Edit: Maybe one of my favorite flying stories is how I learned free falling.

In the early days, again, I was going through a phase where every time I got lucid I would start flying across the land at incredible speeds until I woke up. As much as I loved flying, I was starting to feel like my lucid dreams were become the exact same thing every time.

So one of the next times I was lucid I was like what to do, I want to try something different, but still want to be airborne. I then found a very tall sky-scraper building and stood on top of it, on the edge, heels of my feet over the side. With my back to the drop behind me so I can't see it. I put out my arms as if doing the Nestea Plunge and let myself just tumble backwards over the edge of the sky-scraper and just let myself tumble end over end all the way down to the ground. Landed on my hands, hand sprung to my feet, flew back up and did it again. Yay, It was exhilarating. Tumbling backwards like like without being able to see the drop below, and with total confidence and no fear. An amazing feeling.

That became a common way for me to celebrate my lucidity. Rocket high into the sky, then just relax and relinquish all control and let myself tumble backwards end over end through the sky in pure blissful joy.

Humorous memory of telling my sister about my experience of letting myself tumble backwards off of a sky-scraper. And the look she gave me, like she thought I was totally wacked for thinking falling off a sky-scraper like that could be fun... lol. She didn't get it, apparently...

I have plenty of these kinds of dreams. when I was growing up, I recall having lucid naps where in real life, I would fly around my parents' neighbor's house after pretending that I can feel the wind between my fingertips Or Flying down a flight of stairs like superman. It took a lot of practice. For those newbies: Don't expect to be come masters at lucid control as soon as you become lucid. It takes practice and a mindset.

I even had a time where I stole Ironman's suit and flied it around. Flew on an ant before. Even flew around like the human torch.

I do this with a lot of my dreaming control. Sometimes, I do have issues with flying. Once, I was flying around my sister's house. All of a sudden, I started doubting myself, and at that point, I was losing dream control. It was like I was losing battery power. Or even now, I would have issues with hitting power lines or floating upside-down and uncontrollable flying, from time to time. Sometimes it just happens, even with the best of us. This is when a big whoosh of wind blew. So, I decided to let the wind take me..

I remember once saying, "Take where the wind blows! Nothing really matters to me! " It was kind of voice command in a way. Though, they don't always work. Any who, I felt light as a feather as I drifted down the road. Like a dandelion seed. The wind took me down to Abby Road. I remember that I tried to avoid live wires though. Somehow, I ended up behind my crazy neighbor Candy's house.

A lot of it seems based on what you expect and believe will happen. Once you are convinced you are lucid then you can try jumping off something high, you know that you are in your mind and your body is in bed so you can't be hurt, see what happens. This I found is a great way to smash through mental blocks, though you have to be lucid about where you are, ie in a dream, and what that implies, otherwise it may just distort and reinforce a mental block.

Flying is the one part of dream control that I am actually half decent at! I think it has always just clicked in my mind for some reason.

I think Superman is the easiest method, followed by head first. I have never tried anything like a jet pack or an iron man suit.

I am currently working on the invisible motorbike, and so far it is my favorite.

I have a lot of problems gaining high altitude, and have never made it past sky scraper height flying. My dreams seem to have problem "Rendering" a dreamscape from large heights, even though I have done a skydiving course in real life. I believe that I should do more visualization and meditation to develop more wide and complete dreamscape. Can any of the more experiences fliers comments out there on the distances they reached? Have they left earth's gravity? Flown to the moon? Mars? Edge of the solar system? Out of the galaxy?
They say dreaming is dead, no one does it anymore.
It's not dead it's just that it's been forgotten, removed from our language.
Nobody teaches it so nobody knows it exists.
The dreamer is banished to obscurity.
Well, I'm trying to change all that, and I hope you are too.
      By dreaming, every day.

I've found levitating to be my best dream check. If I suspect a dream, I take a quick hop and not expect to land. As soon as I feel light and hover I begin the LD. You may want to try starting out this way- the confidence of knowing you can defy gravity should make it easier for you to fly and gain greater heights. Also, try watching aerial video footage- should be able to find lots online. That may help with your dreamscape scenarios.

Personally, my longest 'flight' was way out into outer space. At that point, I'm not so sure it's flying, so much, as it was just levitating.

Thank you for those tips, Tornado!

I some lucid dream task that involved flying like this: (Grammar much Humble?) : https://www.dreamviews.com/tasks-mon...ar-2020-a.html
and then there is dreams like this:
Then there was I remember I enter the dream, it was about noon-ish. It looked like a place in the middle of nowhere. It was a rocky place like the Sidi Bouhlel, Tunisia. I remember I felt hot. This is when I notice flames coming out of my hands. ( I wanted to do my BONUS task) This is where I knew that I was dreaming so I decided to fly somewhere where I can find a Forrest. Once I found a Forrest, I began to torch it. This is when I decided to clone myself and I remember fighting this other me. (Fire and ice) The war was crazy. I remember we flew at each other. The fire was blazing out of control. All the animals were running and trying to escape. Then My clone made it snow. Then I emerged myself with other clone and then went on by make a mount out of nothing but the earth. Well, it was a volcano. I remember the volcano was created by me image that there was an earthquake. The earth broke apart and then the faults lines mashed upward and together while the magma bellowed up and out the 50 stories high mountain/ volcano.
Next I remember flying like a bird, with no wings around my lake house. Actually more like a flying humanoid In the dream, it was a hot summer day, probably middle noon on a Monday because I took note that there were not many people on the lake on the week days. As far as I know? The sun was hot against my back as I landed on in the middle of the lake. At first my neighbor who live there all around next store was there fishing. He looked at me like what the hell? I was walking on water. He didn't know what was going on? He tried to do what I was doing, he tried to walk on water but, he felling. This is when I skipped on water back to the shore. Another part of the bonus task as I emptied the water out of the lake and made it vaporized in to the sky. It got cloud and it started to rain. Then, the started the wind blow so hard that it sounded like a ghostly wail. This is when I spun my fingers around clockwise and cause a F 5 Tornado!! The Tornado hit my ex friend Molly's house and demolished it. Then I could feel the power building and buzzing inside of my body. It was wildly zigzagging through my frame like a lightening storm. I had no ability to control it anymore in my dream.
At one point, I was breathing deeply, seeming to bring in fuel to the fire of the strange, warm energy I was feeling, and it grew and swirled, flowing up through my chest, down my arms, all the way to the tip of my toes. The wave of energy emanating from my body, simultaneously imploded inward and then lunged outward in a huge tsunami, enveloping everything in its path, vaporizing whatever it touched. It was a retina-shattering white light and ear-splitting explosion. I remember it was a massive explosion-blast of white light that streamed from the center of my body engulfed me in one, with brilliant energy.

I remember my first time flying. It was like 6-7 years ago when I had my first WILD. I took a nap and I let my body become paralyzed, then flicked my closed eyes up and down real quickly while doing slow breathing. I entered the dream state - it was a theater. I flew around the theater, superman style, with my arm in an outstretched fist. Then, feeling proud, shouted "Look! I did it!"

I thought your freefall stunt sounded amazing! I told my wife about it and she just stared at me like your sister looked at you. She said it sounded terrible.

I have very mixed results here. I sometimes can soar up above the clouds and see amazing landscapes thousands of feet below. I have flown to the moon before. On other occasions I have the same exact issue HumbleDreamer mentioned of getting blocked by powerlines and such. Last night tree branches got in my way and I had to phase through them. A few times I could never reach the top of a skyscraper, it just got taller as I went. Considering HumbleDreamer just mentioned it and I also run into the problem I wonder how common not being able to go too high is. Anyone else run into problems getting very high above the ground? Sometimes I hit a ceiling outside like everything is taking place in a big dome.

This is the best reality check I have ever done for me personally. I can always levitate in a dream. I can never levitate in waking life. I simply make a habit of trying to levitate and if it works I know it is a dream.

So glad I read this thread before bed. It helped me achieve my first real flying lucid dream!

Ive only been at this for just over a year but I’ve always found flying tricky. I started how I imagine most do by just jumping in the air and hoping for the best but this never worked and “gravity” always pulled me back down. I then heard about adopting a superman pose which was meant to help justify the act to the mind in a more understandable way. I did this in a dream and jumped upward with my arms outstretched and for the first time I managed to get off the ground and took off into the sky! The only problem was it was extremely slow and I could only fly upward in a straight line as if I was being beamed up by a UFO! It was hardly the flying experience I desired. I kept trying but I always encountered this false gravity which would only let me get a few feet off the ground before pulling me back down again.

Then I read this thread before bed last night and it got me thinking about new ways of attempting it and I came up with an idea. I played a lot of video games when I was younger and quite often in a game when I was playing as a character who could fly or glide you would have to press “jump” first then press “jump” again mid air to initiate the flying. So thinking about this as I fell asleep lead to a lucid dream in the early morning and I was able to carry out my experiment. It took a couple of attempts but it worked! I jumped, then In mid air I quickly took the superman pose to activate my flying like I would in a game and this quick movement gave me the boost I needed and I rocketed into the sky and over roof tops! I flew around freely for the first time in a dream and it felt amazing! It was a long stable dream as well and I was able to land and take off multiple times and with each attempt my confidence and ability grew and grew. It was working but I could still feel the tug of the simulated gravity on take off and it appeared it was my heavy, dangling legs which were weighing me down. I may need to keep them straight and firmly together next time and hopefully that will stop it. Glad I found something that worked finally. I hope to enjoy many more flying dreams now.

That's so awesome! Congrats!! Superman pose was my first flying technique, too.

It seems like nearly everyone has some sort of hangup in lucid dreams that they have to overcome. For you it may be flying, for me it's phasing. It's so hard for me to go through walls! But, I can do it now at least.

I also went flying over roof tops last night. It is so much fun.

Thanks! Yeah I never struggled with manifesting objects or phasing/ running through walls. Flying was always the tricky one. Next mission, changing the location! Still haven’t cracked that one yet! Maybe I can fly there now though! It seems obvious to say flying makes you feel free but it really does. Until now I’ve been restricted to one room or area in a lucid dream and after flying over a landscape last night I feel like the dream world has really opened up and I’m free to explore more now.

I am very glad for you! What an amazing experience. You get to experience things that no one outside of this hobby will ever experience. Flying in clouds reacting to wind currents and then diving out of the clouds, to see a full world landscape and a herd of wild horse that I flew along with, is a real memory for me just like it happened in waking life. Build a vast store-hold of wild memories! You have your wings!

Yes, that’s what I love about it. For those who don’t lucid dream saying you flew in a dream last night I’m sure would be greeted by a shrug and roll of the eyes. It’s not “real” after all! But I was there, I experienced it, remembered it. It was as real and clear as any other memory I have it just took place in the universe of my own mind. I once read that lucid dreams can become some of your most significant and memorable experiences you have in life and it’s very true.

Don't think about flight; you can pick up a couch why not yourself. It worked! I came of the ground like Dr. Strange or Magneto! That was the start of amazing flying adventures.
I read this the other day and had the chance to experiment with it. Let me say it was AWESOME! I discovered the ability to walk up walls as well. I hadn't even thought of trying that before.

What a great thread! I started out attempting to fly by jumping upwards or running and jumping. It didn't work out so well. Once I'd jump to take off, a very realistic simulation of gravity would occur and I'd fall back to the ground usually with a thud. At some point later I began sticking my arms out in front of me in the Superman fashion. That has worked quite well for doing some low-level flying. Reading this thread has inspired me to make some more flying attempts, hopefully with higher altitudes! I'm interested in the tk method; I'll have to give that a try.

My most memorable childhood dreams are about flying/gliding (more biased towards gliding), having grown up at the top of tall hills overlooking the cityscape below.

I had a pretty standard block against dream flying (taking off from the ground up towards the sky) from childhood, of power lines appearing and obstructing my path. In my early LD practice I specifically visualized breaking through the wires to eliminate this block. And sure enough, during a LD where I flew, the power lines came up into my path, I laughed at them, knowing I would soon conquer them, and gathered my will and smashed through them. I'm pretty sure after that they never appeared again.

I usually do have issues with flight control, speed, and maintaining altitude. Sometimes I can control speed with sheer will but it takes a lot of will. A mindset that has worked for me is performing "Iron Man" style flight: that I have powerful jets in my hands and feet and using them have fine control over positioning, flight path, altitude, speed, etc. It usually works very well, I recommend trying it!

Flying high up into the air in a Lucid Dream

So my question has to do with flying high up into the sky. Specifically pertaining to Lucid Dreams that start from waking up in your bed at your house. Where you are currently sleep. I’ll run all the way to the front door, and open it to go outside.

Upon making it this far into the Lucid Dream landscape, I’ll be outside in a Dream recreation of my neighborhood. Oftentimes, from here I can find it easy to rise straight up into the atmosphere.

So my question remains, with this particular type of flying: how does one stay brave and not cower from the fear of the sensation that they might suddenly fall and tremble back down to the ground? Or, get lost high up above the clouds in the atmosphere of space. Because in the sky, there is just you and your body.

Interesting experience! The way I learnt to fly was a little different, it took me a while to understand that I should not comply with gravity and try to float away in whichever direction I wanted but I couldn't go very fast with that. I figured I needed a more logical approach to flight since I am new to ld and my brain is still stubborn with real world logic and physics. I started flying in a jetpack-like fashion, forcing myself up in short bursts then releasing and falling a few metres than launching again and fly up.
