Vague pictures. How can I be able to read?

In some dreams I am trying to read a book or see a face but with no results because most of the time the images are not very clear, they are vague. Is there any tip on how to be able to read letters and see faces clearly?

This seems to be a problem in lucid and pre-lucid dreams and has been well documented in some of the research Stephan LaBerge has performed.

I have quite a bit of problems myself. The test seems to change, or letters mutate. Pictures, I've not really done a lot with.

One thing you might try is to look at them indirectly, that is out of the corner of your eye. Im kind of grasping at straws here, but that works in other areas of lucid dreaming and might work here as well.

I've never had a problem with faces. Indeed, one of my earliest dreams that began my fascination with dreams was when I looked into the face of this one beautiful green-eyed girl in my Dream... what startled me was the clarity of her face and the intensity of the green of her eyes.

But lettering is nearly always a problem. Letters swirl.

It is simply the wrong half of the brain working here. Dreams come from the Right Hemisphere, but lettering is from the Left. Indeed, I once saw where the functions crossed over. years ago, in a Lucid Dream, I was fighting to stay in the dream to keep from waking up, and so I apparently slowed the process down. What I then witnessed was how the Dream Scenery broke down from Visual Images into written and spoken narrative -- it went from Motion Picture, so to say, to Screen Play. From the Right side of the brain to the Left.

Cassandra, the next time it comes up, try to discern what the book is about... get a notion about what they want you to read. It might indicate that your Higher Self wants you to engage in a certain direction of study for awhile.

If you can't figure out what the subject of the book was, then you can rely upon Synchronicity and just be very aware in the next few days regarding books and topics of study that seem to present to your attention.

But essentially these dreams are showing you very clearly that your Dreams want to encourage you in the pursuit of knowledge... either by giving you knowledge directly, or motivating you toward it. It shows you have attained to a relatively high level in your dreaming. You are no longer in the dark realm of black and white nightmares.

And I highly suspect that these Dream Characters who are offering you books -- these are Angels. This would mean that you are Spiritually Sponsored. You have friends on the other side.

It's strange. The only time text gets blurry for me is when I actually try to read the letters and make sense of it. Often when I read in dreams, I'm not reading the letters, instead I am absorbing the general meaning of the words. It's almost like by passing a cognitive process.

I have to concentrate to read in a dream, but I can do it. Not well enough to read more than a few lines though.
I even wrote a poem in my dream - pretty stupid stuff, but cool because it's from an LD

People's faces, well, I do notice that a lot of the time I didn't actually look at their facial features at all. I just 'know' it's eg. Joe, without question or looking.
When I looked in a mirror, I could feel my subconscious struggling to decide what to do about it

i have trouble with that too..... it makes your dreams clearer if you focus on something, like taking a journey to....maybe from the park to your house and back to the park....but sometimes your dreams are about the park *laughs* okay.....it helps to visualize every detail, like trees and the sidewalk and benches...

One reason you may not be able to read so well is because your just not Creative enough to come up with what you want the book to say on your own.

Since your dreams, and everything in them, are from your sub/un-conscious mind, you would have to be either creating the book as you read from it, or already have the text in it preselected. This would require a pretty creative mind to create the book for you to read it.

Although you could be reading a book, something you have already read once, but your mind can't put it together to make sense, so instead, it blurs it and reduces the stress you put on yourself to try and make sense of it.

If your really determined to read in your dreams, say what you want the book to say in your dreams, and then try to read it.Since it was already said, your mind shouldn't have any trouble putting it into text for you read.

I did what you said and surprisingly it worked.I was reading an article in my dream and I couldn't see the letters very well but I knew what the article was about so I said what the article was supposed to say and then I was able to read some lines.
I don't know why but this week I have made progress regarding my dreams ability.I 've had two lucid dreams so far and I could even control them.I have posted that on another thread

I have absolutely no problem reading text or looking at faces clearly, looking at pictures etc. in dreams, non lucid or lucid. I said this in another topic; but I only got one possible explanation (that whether you can read or not depends on the clarity of you thought process). Any other ideas?

I didnt realize that being able to read in a dream was difficult. I myself seem to have no problem w/ it and they are non-lucid dreams when it does occur for ex: this one dream i had awhile back i was reading a murder/mystery novel (the words were there as clear as could be) I think i must have spent most of this dream just reading this book and towards the end of the story it gave MY name as being the killer in the book. I saw my name printed on the upper right-hand corner of the page in the 1st paragraph of said page. I was actually worried about (in the dream) that people would actually think i was a killer.
Maybe its possible that i can do this b/c im always reading something. Its nothing for me to read about 3 books a week. So maybe that has alot to do w/ it....i cant be sure. I do have these lucid "book dreams" but i never see words in those i just play out the the way i want the book to go in my mind, like a movie i guess.

so what do you guys think could it be b/c you do something so often (as reading) that its possible to read in your dreams or is it based on something else? if what LEO says is true about the right/left brain then it wouldnt be possible...im confused.
(but then again it doesnt take much to confuse me)

I frequently read things in non-lucid dreams, and not just small lengths of text, but often longer pieces. From what I can tell, the text makes perfect sense for the most part, although it's not unusual for new words to be made up or existing words to be used in nonconventional ways (usually I will understand it as if those words had always been used that way). I've read smaller pieces of text at least once in lucid dreams, but I haven't tried it often enough to know if it operates any differently.

The problem is that I usually can't remember anything of what I've read when I woke up, although if I'm lucky I may remember a few words or the general idea. So perhaps there is a small chance that the text made less sense than I think it did.

It seems that those on this forum who say they have no problems reading in dreams do a lot of reading and enjoy it, and I'm the same way. Perhaps things that you really enjoy or have a lot of experience or understanding of are easier to reproduce in dreams. For instance, I tend to notice small quirks and naunces in the way, say, user interfaces of computers and electronic devices work (I have a high interest in them), so those seem to be reproduced quite accurately in my dreams, too. Device failure doesn't seem too frequent for me (though it occasionally happens).

Interestingly, I often "read" as I'm falling asleep before actually dreaming. It's kind of like a "pre-dream" state, and I didn't start noticing it until after I joined DreamViews. Basically, as I fall asleep, before I lose consciousness, I will involuntarily imagine myself doing things in my mind (I don't actually experience them as in dreams), but it seems that I react as though they're really happening (like in a non-lucid dream). Sometimes I'll notice myself reading something, and it'll be cool because the text doesn't exist in real life, but it reads like a real book or something, and my mind is apparently making it up on-the-fly without any conscious effort. The problem is, I'm rarely able to remember a significant potion of it; the second I bring myself back to full awareness it spontaneously disappears from memory. (Once I was able to quickly throw a few words into short-term memory, but it also forced me out of this state and back to full awareness, so I couldn't continue reading.)

As for people's faces, I don't know, because I never really pay attention to people's faces (I'm not very sociable in real life, either).

I think I've read a few times that during dreams the logic parts of the brain (mainly the left part?) are mostly shut down, but I don't think that's a hard-and-fast rule. If it were, I don't see how even lucid dreaming would be possible. I'm guessing that it depends upon the situation, the person, and probably (or especially?) even all of the person's past experiences (which would affect the "wiring" in the brain).
