Maximum length of LDs with dream control

      Hey all,

First off , i'm new to this site so hello everyone.

I did try to search for an answer before writing this, but I still want to hear how long was your longest LD? I understand that it is common for dreams to fade when you become lucid. But when I think of it, almost all of my dreams never feel longer then a few minuates, or at least that is what I remeber from them

A few minutes sounds right. I have heard some people have had lucid dreams so long that they wake up feeling like they lived an entire lifetime in the dream!

      I see,
but are these "lifetimes" of dreams is just a rumor or a fact? (ofcourse you can never PROVE this) but did it happen to people you know and trust?

There is one member here, Gothlark, whom I chat with often. I feel like I can trust what he's telling me. He has told me that he's had numerous dreams that have lasted for years, or even a lifetime. I have to say that I remain somewhat skeptical, having never experienced anything like that myself, but OTOH I have talked to him a lot over the past year of so, and he seems like an honest person.

Personally, I think my longest LD is about 15-20 minutes.

My longest LD lasted about 15 seconds, damnit. I've had twenty LD's so far, none of them have surpassed that mark.

man, that seems so short.... I haven't had any LDs yet, but in my non-lucid dreams I've spent an entire day in a dream many a time. Does being lucid during the dream really make the dreams that much shorter?

I just had a thought: maybe since I'm not particularly aware when dreaming, time can speed up without me noticing it and I just go along with it. Obviously, it isn't possible to actually spend a full day in a dream because REM periods aren't that long.... However it might be possible, if one was lucid, to slow down time and make it seem like you're spending days, years or even lifetimes in one dream. I would love to experiment with this, but I gotta be able to LD first haha! maybe somebody with a bit more experience could try this out?

Another thought: has anybody been able to chain REM periods together? I mean say you have one dream during your first REM period, then non-REM sleep, and then during the next REM period you pick up where you left off? This might be another way to spend days or years in the same dream. I can't try it out myself yet but it seems like a pretty crazy concept....

Many years!...Ive had WAY longer uncontrolled ones, but i didnt like them very much so i stay in control the intire time now. . .or else you just feel out of reality when you wake up...that happens either way to me but not as bad when its controlled for obvious reasons.

Most of the time when i have extremely long LD's i wake up to find my eyelids are sometimes a reddish color, dont be alarmed if it happens to you though because i figure its just an increased bloodflow to the eye area during the REM faze, perhaps for some reason its amplified.

Often it's not really a matter of slowing down time. Dreams often jump around and skip scenes, giving the impression that events have occured over a period of time longer than has occured. Also, things in your dream can give you a direct impression that you have spent a particular amount of time in dream - for example, if you look at a calendar and notice that the days are advancing, or a clock e.t.c.

Sometimes we're fooled in our dreams and just say - "Oh I must have spent a day in here" when really it's just our sub-c's warped sense of time flow.

i dunno this sounds that all sounded silly with lifetime and all silly. when i get lucid dream its always when i regain control over my brain and thoughts. experimenting stuffs tryint to sharpen picture, control body and then last in non controled atmosphere as much as posibile lately.
im not silly im rather aware how time passes and usualy vividness just fades away after some 15 secs-2mins then i use spining method. and again and again every time i lose vividness of dream.

so basicly i dont trust this nonsences bouth slowing time, and if dream is skiping time, clock moving and all that bzteam said b4. and your not aware of it. this is for me just simple dream not ld. since your not aware of what is hapening. i clearly remamber every second of my lucid dream as if it hapened normal in rl. cos im aware while dreaming fcourse.
and yea i think dreams can last longer those lucid dreams but i think it just depends on your expiriance with em which is not so great in my case. but some astronomic number i doubt.

who knows maby someone is born with some kind of skill that makes him ultra gifted in lding and he naturaly can perform a longer lds from start. but i think for average ppl it should be short from begining and rising with practice but not by some high numbers.

      just my thoughts

Heh yeah I noticed this last night.... I was parasailing behind a car on the highway (there wasn't enough room inside so they made me go out back... lol), and we were racing against like 8 other people. I looked at one exit sign and it said 42, and then after what seemed like 20 minutes or so in dream time we came to exit 20. When I woke up, though, there was a gap in time between exits 42 and 20 and I don't remember anything being there.... time warp to the end of the race :-p In the dream it seemed like I was there the whole time but in reality my brain just skipped over the less exciting parts.

I have the craziest dreams sometimes, I can't believe parasailing behind a car on the highway didn't trigger lucidity haha Maybe tonight...

In LaBerge's book ETWOLD, he references someone from the 1600's who had LD's that lasted for over 5 years. Stating that he would fall asleep and wake up, he even had a whole differnt family in his lucid dreams.

No, one dream would last 5 years. He would fall asleep in his dream and wake up... etc. Living out a 5 year span in one dream.

That would be amazing. I am just shooting to break 5 seconds right now

I think this question is somewhat ridiculous, I mean how can we say how long a dream has lasted? My time perception is totally distorted when Im dreaming and so is everyone elses, too. Sure, if you look at the clock before and after a WILD, then you can say pretty accurately how long it lasted.

A dream can feel long even though it actually isn't. I've been thinking that while sleeping, time goes ten times faster. In the morning I always think: "I just fell asleep and now it's morning already"

My longest LD was probably like... 2 mins? But it could have been 10mins in real time, REALLY hard to say...

      dream time

Iv had lucid dreams that must have lasted at least like 20 minutes. I've never had a lucid dream that feels that it lasted all day, but my first lucid dream seemed like an entire night. I went lucid, ran around, flew, landed on a mansion and had crazy conversations with the people who lived there, then i swam in there pool and breathed underwater and finally blacked out. It felt like hours passed but I have no idea how long the dream really was.

PhilipJFry, is your sig accurte? I've seen a number of similar charts showing when REM occurs, but they all differ by at least 30mins. Just asking because I can't pin down when REM is, though it's probably somewhat different for everyone.

Funny my first lucid dream was half an hour and my only other one was 10 min lucid and an hour, or so it seemed after i'd forgotten.
I do WILDs and was wondering if gaining conscienceness during a dream has an adverse effect on its length

My LONGEST in comparison with reality:

1 realtime minute - 30 minutes in lucid dream.

And it's not the ''let's skip this and this and whooo the dreams over''.

I can litteraly recall every minute of it.
