Let there be light

Ok, this is in response to another post where people were saying that its impossible to change the light in a dream, im going to conduct a few experiments the next few nights to see if this holds any validity when tested by an experienced LDr.

[SIZE=2]3)</span> Ok did one for indoors this time, WILDed into a dark room (as always) so I got up and let my mind slightly wander (a technique I do to tap into my creative subconcious) and then told myself to activate a light, I then found myself recieving information from my subconcious mind (like in a low level lucid where you see someone in the dream that you dont know but suddenly know their name and stuff) so I reached up with my hand and sent an arc of energy through the air towards the light fixture, suddenly it began to slowly glow brighter but I again began to recieve an instinct from my subconciousness and reached over while still holding the arc of energy from my hand towards the light and flipped the light switch releasing a normal ammount of light into the room. Unfortunately though, the technique I used caused me to lose alot of my lucidity so I had to do some reality checks and restabalize the dream, but after that I went around my house using the same meathod to turn like 5 more lights on....

also I should mention that im biased towards the fact that the light in the dream is just like a chair in a dream, you can change it and morph it at will

also im going to do as many meathods as I an think of for changing light so if you have any meathods you want tried please post

Heres some i and others have thought up:

~~Jump through a window knowing it will be light outside

~~walk through part of a house/ building where you wouldnt normally see light from outside if it were day, knowing that when you reached a window/ door it would be daytime

~~Take off your sunglasses

~~simply will it to turn day

~~fast foward time through the night then start it back to normal around mid-day

~~watch the sun rising over the horizon (be it mountains, the ocean, trees, etc....)

~~lay down and sleep expecting to be in the same spot but it being daytime around you

~~Grab the sun from around the world with your jedi powers and swing it overhead

~~spin expecting to stop when its daytime

any more suggestions would be great ;)

Electronics just suck in your dream. I don't know or light itself has much to do with it.

Well maybe:

Like in old 3d game, doom and duke nukem 3d for instance, there was no dinamic lighting. Light sources did not really influnce the envoronment, or enemies. Just maybe make them darker or lighter.

When qauke came, lights had actual effect on enemies, rooms and so on. Shadows became real and not just sprites.

Maybe your brain is like a crappy computer that can't calculate how things react to lights? Or not so good at least.

well firstly, i think the 'tinted' window was a partial success. it was lighter outside than inside..

i am very interested in this experiment, as about a third of my lucids are inhibited by lighting shortages.
i think its really quite an arbitrary thing. obviously the dream world isn't subject to the laws of physics. its more a matter of tricking one's mind, as shown in your tinted window experiment. it seems one must perform/witness an action usually associated with an increase of light, and, presto chango.

in one lucid it was almost pitch black. i imagined a lighter in my pocket, pulled it out, and lit it. instantly it was daylight.

here's some suggestions. they are all for outside. inside, i would just flick a light switch, light a lighter/lamp/bonfire, etc.

1. you know in documentaries where they speed up a sunset, or show a whole day in a minute, with the clouds whizzing by? imagine that happening, and then 'pause' it once its fully light out.

2. lay down and 'go to sleep', confident you will wake up in the exact same place once its light out. imagine the sun warm on your face and hands, and then having to slowly open your eyes while shielding them to avoid the dazzling glare.

3. this might not be easy for you, but i live surrounded by mountains...
imagine it is just before dawn, and the sun is just about to rise. focus on the horizon, and simply watch it rise until there is enough light to see clearly. then go about you business until its fully light.

*shrugs* those all involve using time manipulation/natural processes to trick one's mind, but other than simply willing it, those are all i can think of for now.

Well, the problem you have with Light, Billy Bob, is that it is a Spiritual Quality.

The Quality of Light in a dream indicates at what Spiritual Level one is residing.

those lowly materialists may wish to be able to intensify the light in their scenes of nihilistic gloom, but they can't... and they shouldn't. it is only fair that God should give them some indicator of their relative spiritual location, and Darkness seems quite calculated to get the message across with little ambiguity.

Now, yes, it was one of the False Doctrines of Paul, that Demons were able to summon up Light. But paul was only saying this in order to discredit True Spirituality. His Congregation was complaining of the Darkness of their Dreams, and wondered why they should not be blessed with Light (and these were people who had Faith that they could commit any Sin with complete Forgiveness because they had sacrificed the Messiah into a tortuous Death. Somehow they equated that Vampirian Blood Thirstiness into Goodness and Light. people can be so silly, no?); well, Paul could not get them any Light, and so he responded in Praise of Darkness and leveled accusations against the Light, claiming that the Light was 'of the devil'. Paul had a good sense of politics and if he had Faith in anything, it was that one could 'spin' anything to mean anything and most people would believe it.

But, no, he was wrong... he was lying. Light is good. And one cannot attain to the Light unless one first becomes good. No demons from the chasms of Hell, or secular materialist, can simply call forth the Light.

yeah, I always WILD into a dark room so this should help me as well

thanks for the imput/ ideas, Im really having trouble thinking of some that I havnt already done before, I guess i'll make a list and put it on here later

I've noticed an interesting thing: if I stay in one room lucid for some amount of time, there's a great chance that after some time the light in the room will turn off. The easiest way to counter that is to just keep moving.
Generally I leave my dream location through a window and get outside...

About expectations: it would be much more effective if you actually visualize the light in the next room instead of just expecting/wishing for it.
