      Does doing RCs necessarily mean you are LDing?

      Last night I had this REALLY LONG dream. At one point I did RCs which proved I was dreaming. But yet I didn't feel like I was controling it all as if the whole thing was not lucid. For about 15 - 20 minutes in the dream, I was trying to fly through walls and just start flying through the sky in which every attempt was unsuccessful. There had to have been at least 10 attempts in it. Also, there was also talk of how many people where I was had dream journals.

      If I did have any lucidity in the dream it didn't last very long b/c the whole dream just felt like a regular dream, even when I was trying to fly through walls. Before I went to bed at night, I had said what I wanted to do and this was not it.

      So my question is, if you do RCs and they prove that you are dreaming, does it at that point have to be counted as a Lucid Dream?
      Wait!! .......Am I dreaming right now?
      LDs: 8
      Most LDs in one night: 3

      It's time for a new beginning...

      It depends on the events that happen after you realize. You could perform a reality check using a digital watch for example notice that you are dreaming but then convince yourself that the watch is just faulty and that you are not dreaming.
      Also what you describe does sound like you became lucid, but at a very low level. You realized that you were dreaming and tried to do things but you didn't realize that you really can do anything. When fully lucid you would find flying through walls easy because you know that there aren't any walls there in the first place.
      Are you dreaming or awake?

      I've found it's possible to know you are dreaming without the actual 'click' that enables you to start controlling your dreams. An RC, even if it fails and you recognize that you are in a dream, does not mean you fully grasp the implications of a failed RC or being in a dream automatically.

      yes, if you perform a RC and realize you are dreaming, that's a lucid dream. Some lucid dreams have little or no control. Or maybe you were trying a task too difficult... For example I can fly through ceilings up, but I cant fly through the floors down. There may be something similar with you and walls. The main thing is : dont get caught in a loop trying to do one thing... I remember quite a lot of LDs where I got stuck trying to perform one particular action(like conjuring a weapon) for a very long time... Not fun... if you fail, try another way or do something else completely

      Just thought i'd share a dream I had last night;
      I was telling a girl about lucid dreaming and explaining how it is possible to become lucid at will. When I got on to the topic of reality checks I showed her my watch, the display was faulty so I said to her 'that proves I'm dreaming' I then said another reality check is to see if you can control light levels. I walked over to the light switch and turned it on and off. The bulb turned on and off but the light shade remained illuminated. I told her that this is another sign that this is a dream and continued with our conversation.
      At no point in this dream did I get the click 'I'm dreaming' I was mearly stating the fact without actually becoming lucid. So in answer to your question, No, failed RCs do not mean you are LDing. In my own experience anyway.

      If you know you are dreaming, regardless of what checks you have done or what controll you had/didn't have, you are LDing.

      If you never realized you were dreaming, you didn't LD, even if you did RCs.
