do's and dont's of keeping control

Basically this is what i do on the rare occasions when i attain control of my dreams.

      1) NEVER think about anything currently happenning in school/work/your home, because that may lead you to waking up back into that reality.

      2) if you want something, dont do what i read somebody else did:
      Dont:
"Gimme an M16!" this is asking your dream for something, the dream doesnt decide if you get an M16 or not! this is YOUR dream!
      Do:
give yourself an M16, dont think you have it, know you have it, and it will appear.

Another example is flying, many people have trouble with flying in dreams because they dont have the will power to keep themselves in total control. Once again, dont let your dream make you land, make yourself land, because it is YOUR dream, and surely it will happen. or instead of landing, fly straight, or skim the tops of the clouds, or whatever, as long as you keep the thoughts that you own this dream in your head.

      3)Fears:
If you have a fear of something, say... heights. Dont make yourself fly, because you will become fearful in your dream and wake up or lose control.

most of all, try to keep focused on the dream, and nothing else, and your conscious dream will last a lot longer. And remember that any little thought can alter your dream, and your dream is constantly trying to re-take control, so you must keep your mind focused. Sometimes stray thoughts can stream you right back into a regular dream, with no control.

I also have 2 questions for anybody to answer.

In my dreams, just about all of them, a few moments before i wake up, i gain total consciousness in the dream. People im with, i say goodbye, or say OH S**T, or any number of things. Sometimes I know that my iminent awakening is coming, from my mom, or my alarm clock, and i can feel it getting closer, and my time in my dream is getting shorter, and so i try to finish up the things in my dream.

Question: has this ever happenned to anyone else?

Also, sometimes when i literally am awake in bed, with my eyes shut, i can hang onto the dream, but only if im thinking about the dream, but if i go to push the alarm button, that memory of the dream i was hanging onto disappears, and i lose all memory of the dream i just had, even though moments before, i was hanging onto the memory. Once, when this happenned, i hung onto it long enough to fall back asleep, and i RE-ENTERED the dream i was JUST having! But surely if i hadnt hung onto it, i wouldve become totally awake and lose the memories.

Question: has this ever happened to anyone else?

i assure you all this information is true and explained to the best of my ability.

If you dont beleive me, you obviously havnt experienced anything quite like this, and so i dont blame you.

      *phew* long post

Yes, I've reentered dreams on many occasions (sometimes good dreams and sometimes bad ones). I love being able to hop back into a dream I was just having if it was a good one. Nothing's worse than getting woken out of an awesome dream.

I can't really say I use any sort of technique to do it, and I'm usually only awake for less than a minute when I do it - any longer than that, and I rarely can get back into the dream.

      cool

wow im glad im not alone with the things im talking about!

ive had a new wierd feature in my dreams.

In the morning my mom wakes me up. Usually it takes her 2-4 calls of my nameto wake me up.

Recently ive been seeing a flash of certain images every time she calls my name. The most recent, when she called my name, i saw a warrior's helmet, one that covers the cheeks and forehead, with one fin going from forehead to back of the head. The second time, i saw a silver metal helmet with long spikes all over it. Somehow these images signaled to me that it was time towake up.

How could i know this? Idont think there is much of an explanation forthis. Everyone has their own minds, and can understand their own minds, but when it comes to sharing experiences, or verbally trying to paint the pictures for people, it becomes almost impossible.

I intend to keep posting about my dreams because i'm very interested in this Lucid Dreaming stuff, because i never knew there was a name for becoming conscious in a dream.

Really, i was searching google for 'how to gain consciousness in dream' and this site popped up somewhere. I had no idea it was called Lucid Dreaming, or that there was any theories on it.

im glad i got such a warm welcome to the forums, it's motivated me to continue posting. I have a very philosophical mind, and i'd like to share my experiences with you guys.

for some reason im finding it easier to talk to complete strangers about this stuff, rather then my friends or family, because i know you guys will understand (or try to at least) what im talking about. Some of you may even relate to what im saying. I feel very comfortable here, so expect to see much more from me. Also, feel free to ask me any questions about what im talking about.

Please excuse all typo's or errors in this post, im terrible at typing on a laptop XD.

      -thx

You forgot the option for "haven't dreamed lucidly yet."

But I'm working on it! I've got my dream recall way up.

Yes, although I don't say good bye or anything but more like I keep going till I wake, it also happens sometimes that I sense or feel someone coming to wake me up, sometimes I've even known who and woke up like a sec before they touched me, pretty wierd.

Yes, lots of times, since I'm a kid, if I liked a dream really much and wanted to continue it I just started playing the whole plot before sleeping and wondering how it would of had continued until I dream it, not that strange of a thing I would think.

Voted, All night! (lol), I'll tipe more things in later

well torrent, youre kind of analyzing your questions and answering them right before/after your asking them. but anyways yea, some of what your saying is true.
but about the dream control, its mostly different for everyone.
for some people, like myself, just knowing that its your dream and you dont have to ask for something to make it happen doesnt work much

but anyway since youre new and all you seem pretty experienced already. so i strongly suggest reading 'exploring the world of lucid dreaming'. its only like 7 bucks at barnes and noble and its really helpful/philosophical.
