      So what about music???

      hello!

Well i'm pretty new at LDing, although i had some LDs when i was child, so... well is it hard to make sound events in your dream? I mean, like fighting some monster and listening to a coooool soundtrack and stuff. Does it take too much dream control or is it easy?

I don't know, I think it's not That hard, maybe you could make it easy by using a dream-stereo or radio. Try it. However I my dreams music is way to weird and vague to sound cool : )

Okay... this may be crazy... but how about listening to, I dunno, the lord of the rings soundtrack, while falling asleep and having a WILD? Huh... could work... dunno, more experienced people wanna say summin'? Cos personally, I think what Frosty Chaotix is describing sounds quite do-able...

Music while falling asleep is a great technique for this. It's worked for me....It also helps to induce LDs for me. I listen to the Moody Blues a lot while falling asleep and it is awesome.

I used to not really recall many dreams at all. I'm new to the whole LDing completly actually. But as far as dreaming at all, I really didn't. I started listening to music while going to sleep, generally a very very slow trance, or to a complete opposite, listening to Tool. Everytime I try a different CD while going to sleep I get different results, different dreamscapes in a sense, completly different environments.

I have it on repeat, or sometimes the CD's are over a couple hours on repeat. This helps in no way I suppose, but just getting aquinted with the forum and community.

Music playing in the background not loud when you are asleep.. if it keeps you awake set an radio alarm on low setting to turn on 10 mins after you have fallen asleep it helps if you calm yourself and not think about the radio alarm, this will help you drop off easier.

I used to suffer from not sleeping properly because of nightmares, dream recall on nightmares is like 100% and i continue to remember them, putting the radio on will influance your dream.

I had a dream with a cool song playing in it, this song was not on the radio and was totally my imagination. I have never heard this song before, or at least remember hearing it.

Was your dream with audio influanced from outside sounds?

If not i guess its normal to hear sound in your dreams songs are just an extention of that.

Frosty Chaotix, what you're asking is 100% achievable. Falling asleep with music playing is a very powerful way to induce Lucid Dreams and heightens your abilities while in a Lucid Dream. I have been using this technique for a while and it works wonders for me.

I would advise listening to slower, calmer music at first then move onto the louder, more accommodating music.

      I hope this helps.

It also depends on how familiar you may be with a piece of music. When it comes to music I'm a very detail-oriented person and so when I think of a piece of music that I'm familiar with, I hear all the parts, harmonies, instruments, etc. I'm sure that if you knew the music you wanted well enough, you wouldn't necessarily have to fall asleep with your music on. It just depends on personal preference.

Well in my last LD, I played piano, which worked fine! I was concentrating on playing something that I didnt know, and hearing it, so I guess its pretty easy

Would you recommend classical music? Enya? I like those styles.

It only works if you find classical music boring. It's my preferred genre though, so I find it much harder to fall asleep to dramatic pieces :/

I think everyone agrees. I have a habit of waking up in the middle of the night for an hour or more, so I kill some time by listening to the radio. On occasion, I do fall asleep, and then usually I do hear the music in the dream.

I like it better though when you are right on the edge of falling asleep and you hear something for the first time. Actually, I can remember all the way back to the beginning of 2004. I went to the bathroom in the middle of the night, came back and turned on my radio and heard "Megalomaniac" for the first time. My mind was blown away. Later in July, I heard the first half of the album before falling asleep. A Crow Left of the Murder is still a favorite of mine.

Edit: Just last night I fell asleep with the radio going. When the dream started, so did the new Tool song Vicarious. I cranked it up and rocked out during the dream it was a lot of fun. I also had a mirror and was flexing my aura in front of it, among other things.

uhm.... right, but, can you play music without actually listening it in the real life? I mean, triggering the music only inside your dream ?

      Re: So what about music???

Just last night I had an LD about Red XIII behind my bed and I could hear him breathing very powerfully and clearly. As a side note I could also feel the warm/hot breath. As far as music, I have had that in the past. It would be cool to have the "Test your might, Mortal Kombat soundtrack" while fighting some monster though.

Yes THAT would be cool. Maybe I'll try it the next time I have a LD.

How about letting your mind create the music? Like using a stereo or something and putting in a cd with the music of your mind. Then just wait and listen. Might be interesting to see what comes out. Oh, and hi to everyone! This forum rocks.

Musician Todd Rundgren has this to say on remembering music heard in his dreams:
"Many of my songs I dream fully realized. I dream that I am in the control room, listening to something on the speakers, and it is this piece of music that I have not written yet.... This has happened so frequently that I can wake myself up and remember substantial parts. I don't know whether my subconscious has been working overtime writing these songs without my help and then revealing them to me, or whether they're transmitted to me by some kind of muse or angel, or whether there is a difference between the two.... They're lucid to the extent that I realize I'm dreaming and wake myself up to write the song down."

there are a few bands who are transposing dreamusic in the recording studio
Deerhoof is a wonderful example: Dream Wanderer's Tune
also check Carey Ott's: Lucid Dream EP

feel free to experiment--here is where my own travels have taken me:
      The Subcons

but as Thurston Moore, guitarist from Sonic Youth, once admitted:
"Once the music leaves your head, it's already compromised."

if you want to try getting music in your dreams i suggest starting with a track you know really really well. now, can you play that song in you're head? if you can, the when in your LD just start playing that song in your head and it should keep playing.

later, when you want your own music just start with a good indtrument (maybee flute, guitar, pinano. depends on the mood) and just imagine a few notes played. often it will turn into a full song =P

most of my dreams are silent! thats actually how I know if I am awake or not. My dream room is quiet, where as my real room has the noisy fan running.

but Ive had at least two dreams that I can think of where there was music or a song playing. One of them I was in a grocery store, and an old song was playing. Crazy thing was, I never knew, or remembered, the lyrics to the old song. But I sang along sleepily in the dream *In the dream I was tired in the grocery store*. And when I woke up, I knew the lyrics by heart!

there was another where I was a pirate. and me and my crew had our own little song that we sang while drinking and the likes

      I got a question...
I move around A LOT in my sleep, and ususally what ends up happening is I wake up and the headphones are off. Can the volume be low enough to where I won't disturb my family by just listening through my computer speakers?

As for making up music, I've had sound effects but that's it. I'll try to induce it in my next ld though. Since I write music, that'd be pretty cool. Ultimate goal: have a shared dream with fellow band members, create dream-world screaming fans, and perform at a dream-ozzfest! 8)

I've been trying this for sometime now, I'm going to keep working at it. One lucid I was doing some kung-fu matrix style fighting against a bad guy, I tried to snap my finger to play some meat beat manefesto (matrix soundtrack) but it didnt play. Seem like this requires real lucid power!!!!

      imagination

The key to making music play in your dreams is to make the music up. I'll bet it is hard for your brain to produce an exact replica of the music you want. The music i've heard in my dreams have been my imagination creating the music. This works to perfection because the music is everything you love. Your own musical taste come through in the song. Pure creativity.

Give your mind the task, and it will produce what you please.
