Write it all out
Last night I wrote out where I would go if I could dream and what I would dream about(hopefully) and it worked. I wrote that I would want to see my dream self in a mirror with a new haircut that I wanted. Or rather, I wrote that I wanted to see myself as I desired. IN my dream, I should be writing this in my dream journal but oh well, I was downstairs with my family and we were watching tv. I think we were about to leave so I went upstairs to do my hair. I cut off some of it and looked at myself in the mirror. I couldn't really see myself but I could feel the stubble from my newly cut hair. I realized I was dreaing and then immediately woke up. Setting up the background of the story helps the actor play out his or her part. That's just my view on things.

It seems that setting the back story, as you put it, in this case acted to put your mind on the topic of dreaming, which is, in turn, why you realized you were dreaming. Carrying thoughts and intentions into the dream state isn't easy for many and that's what many LD induction techniques are about, however, it seems you found the technique that fits you and that being writing on the topic of dreaming allowing you to set your mind to more or less constant thought about it.

U ever hear how people dramatically improve the chances of achieving their goals when they write them down? With that in mind, the principle should work for dream plans, as well. We have thoughts all the time, and making plans in our mind is just within that infinite pool of thoughts. Writing it lets our subconscious know and focus on that particular thing more than normally. Hope this helps. Actually, I'm going to try that... hehe

I'll try that too! Thanks for sharing! I did this, similarly, in storywriting, and I ended up having the exact same experiences my characters did, now you mention it. Except those ended up pretty short too.

Thank you Scarlett, I must try this technique out for myself. I have been "telling" myself that I will dream for sometime now, but I have never written it down before. Thanks again.
