Degrees of lucidity and dream control

I am interested in how lucid I become, and how much control I then realize in a dream.

In reading accounts of different lucid dreamers, and looking at my LDs to date, I've come up with the following scale of lucidity:

      1) aware it’s a dream
      2) exercise some dream power (e.g. flying, hand through wall)
      3) recognize people in dream are DCs not real
      4) making something appear in some way
      5) changing dream location
      6) making someone appear
      7) transforming self

So far I've only gotten to 3, I've attempted 4 but I woke up.

How would you classify degrees of control/lucidity?

lol, maybe you should read the OPs post first

As for degrees of lucidity - think of a coordinate system much like the Cortesian (XYZ) coordinate system, where one axis is called control and another one is called awareness... If you think about your LDs using something like this, it is much easier to classify your lucid dreams... and you may even notice some patterns in your lucid dreaming...

Nesgirl, What I'm interested in what types of activity are more difficult for you, rather than a list of things you'd like to try. My 1 to 7 is an attempt to show degrees of lucidity.

      I'll try this out.

I'm interested if other people find similar levels of difficulty in the 7 activities I've listed?

      2/3 are the same level
      4
      6
      7

Well, all of them that you mentioned are relatively easy, since I have done that since I was 4 (had LDs when I was 3, but I couldn't talk, so I couldn't control them).
But still, I can name some of the things that are more difficult on my part in a LD (or in real life):
      1) Find others having those ...? dreams I have
      2) Exploring XP5 and 5PX a bit more (but not missing my curfew [I know it is a dream, but I cannot wake up w/o going BTB])
      3) Dream Sharing (Only did this 3x w/splash, 2x w/my boss, and 6x w/my niece [and it doesn't count entering dreams])
      4) Worrying a little less (both in dreams and in real time, b/c my worrying level is 90%)
      5) Liking myself (suicide in a LD is just too fun to give up!!).

There, I mentioned them. Though I don't think I can get past the first three!!

Nesgirl, I read in some of your posts, that use a dream NES, or Gameboy to do some lucid tasks. Do you notice when you need to use this technique, versus just regular LD?

      1) Find others having those ...? dreams I have
Those kind of dreams I don't have (yet). Have you read "Far Journeys" by Robert Monroe? The book is a bit slow to get into, but I think you would enjoy it, should be available at library.

Maybe people have taught you to focus on troubles, rather than focus on positive things? You have been through many experiences and are okay. In your DJ you get out your bazooka when you need to

So LD shows you suicide ends nothing, you just continue in another place. And not always a better place. Have you seen the movie Groundhog Day? Its pretty funny.

Asher, that's interesting that #5 is hardest for you. I'll have to see what happens when I get to that stage.

I am curious what other people find to be the hardest type of activity in a LD?

Well, this is one LD task I won't be able to benefit from doing that with.
And most of my LDs are very much the same, apart from ...?s!!
      1) Those are dreams I have, but unlike my other LDs, these ones do differ. It is kind of like a crossroads between dreaming and real time. It is really cool, but I still think it is a type of WILD
      4) I always do!
      5) I always end up waking up if I commit LD suicide. so it really does nothing.
Is Groundhog Day an R? B/c I am not allowed to watch Rs!

I've had a lucid dream where I was able to transform, but didn't have much control of alot of the dream. I quess it's what you really focus on.

I have done all of them, though some may not have been very good heh. I would say any of the things you listed could range from easy to hard. If your trying to change location but don't care where you end up, its easy. If you try to transform your entire body while being very detailed and having it remain that way for an entire dream, then thats hard.

I guess that goes for most things though, the more specific you are, the harder its going to be. By the way transforming yourself seems to be insanely easy when your not lucid, or just barely lucid, but when you are I have a lot of trouble getting it right. Something will almost always happen but its not exact.

Hey Alric, what kinds of transformation do you do, and what's not exact? I'd like to try transforming into some different animals.

Its a PG movie. If you like Bill Murray you should like the movie. But I know he annoys some people.

Re: Degrees of lucidity and dream control

For me, transforming self is much easier than making someone appear. I have also been able to do that much easier than changing dream location.

Re: Degrees of lucidity and dream control

In my waking life, I imagine myself as some animated animal character, so I am used to it. More than a transformation, it is like I just am another character like a wolf. When I hear songs I like on the radio, I imagine myself as some character singing the songs, and it adds a whole lot more emotion to the experience of the song.

Therefore, in a dream it is not much harder, although I have been focused more on trying to find a specific character than trying to change myself.

Part of what I'm interested with transformation is how different the experience is from regular experience.

One part would be whether in the dream you look different, another part would be do you feel different, a third would be do you act differently?

In one non-lucid dream I was a brown dog. I looked like a dog, I ran around on 4 legs. I enjoyed being petted as a dog. But at one point I held onto a rope like a person.

In another dream I glided through the air as a flying squirrel - but I did not see myself as a squirrel.

I'd like to see what it feels like to be an eagle or a dragon or a tiger.

Sometimes, I like to transform into unique creatures from Anime and Nintendo, like Jigglypuff (who draws on people's faces)

I felt like doing those 2 pics in particular.

Oh, and I still want to accomplish 1 more thing (I have yet to do this):

      1) Find splash in a ...? Dream:

PS: Someone took this picture inside her mind (they are dreams) supposedly somewhere in May, which Splash told me she did many of those.

And really, anything else I want in any dream I can have if I desire to have it (except DSing, because it is pretty much pure luck to do that)

I wonder sometimes how my dog sees the world, and how they see at night, and even how they dream.

I could pass on the itching and scratching though.

i'm not sure they are degrees...
the one that gives me problems is the second, for example (an unwlecome result of a sort of shared dream i think )

werewolf: just in those last days i'm thinking about trying to turn into an animal to see "trough his eyes". I don't know if it will work, I never changed myself so deeply, only haircut and other silly female fantasies (i don't change haircut since I was eight in real life )
