Permanent Dream

I've been kind of bored with lucid dreaming for the past few years as I couldn't think of anything new to try that would really be "advanced". Then I remembered something I read in one of the Carlos Castaneda books about how some people could create a dream environment that they could return to over and over again, sort of a permanent dream refuge. That sounds like quite a challenge. So, that's what I'm trying to make. Haven't really gotten anywhere with it yet, as I actually don't know where to begin with it. I figure, the next lucid dream that I have, I'll try to visualize something familiar, then try to refine it and make it stable. The trick will really be to remember to go back to it next time. Anybody else out there ever try anything like this before?

My earliest memorie is that of a dream I had as a child. Although not a lucid dream I remember it well for the simple reason that I was woken up, went back to sleep about 10 minutes later and fell straight back into my dream. Probably not very reliable, or helpful seeming as I don't remember how i did it, but it seemed relevant :P

I had lucid dreams as a child, though didn't know what they were at the time. What happened was I kept finding myself in the same place - fully conscious and able to move about freely, but with no control over the environment I was aware of. (Had I known it was a dream, perhaps some control could have been exercised.)

The place was sort of like two infinite planes, above and below. It was so vast and empty that my sense of distance was distorted, making everything feel "close" even though it seemed to go on forever. Nothing ever happened there, and nothing and nobody else ever appeared. I could set something down and walk away from it a very long way and keep it in highly resolved focus though.

I didn't like this place... I've only been back to it a couple times in adult life, and not since discovering what LD is. Now I'm ready to punch a hole in one of those planes and head out sideways.

I mention this because I definately returned to the same place over and over.

I "rebuilt" in dreamland the house where I lived when I was very little, but every time I go back there it changes quite a lot. definitely I can't call it a success. and this is also easier because the place has been real.
what you talk about is more complex, but it sounds possible :D
maybe it would help, after creating it in the first dream, to write a description of the place, or something like this, to fix it in your "day" memory .

I was just reading this and may have thought of a way to create as you said a dream refuge.

As you go through the day imagine your world and everything in it. Think of it as a sort of scamatic of your dream. Imagine the landscapes, what goes where and imagine the people. Think of their personalites, not necesarilly what they say but their personality so they could become dream charecters and not just something else you control.

So ya anyway, just plan it out constantly as go through the day. If your bored out of your mind imagine how your world will look, etc etc so on and so forth...

Let me know if this works for anyone. I would try it out but I'm still working on regaining lucid dreams.

Now, I'm not really sure if what I'm achieving is a dream refuge but when I was little I could control my dreams with ease, with time I was able to reproduce and induce my brain in a state close to dreaming (not really there, lucid dreaming is far better) while awake. Basically I can drift off at will and recreate a fairly real world around me and drift off there.

Now, the problem with this is that state of mind is always there now, I'm not drifting away randomly but it is active and kinda tiring (kinda like a background noise that i can't turn off).
