      Trouble Believing

so when youre lucid, on of the key points to control is having the 100% belief that something will happen, and then it will.
what if you try to believe, i mean really try. but theres this constant fear of it not happening in the back of youre mind and it kind of knows it wont happen. and then it usually doesnt.

is there anything i can do that could help this? or do i just need practice? any advice at all would be nice. thanks.

Belief alone wont do you much good cause there's always doubt. In my LDs I use three ideas when I want to manifest something: Belief, Visualization and Willpower combined with some simple ritual (like a hand gesture).

An example - if I want to manifest a gun, I reach in my pocket or reach behind me (*Ritual*) while *willing* for the gun to be there. At the same time there's a *visualization* or at least thinking of what kind of a gun I want. As I do it, I *believe* or try to believe that the gun will be there. This template can be applied to any kind of control and it really takes longer to describe the action here than to perform it in a dream.

In some dreams it's possible to control just about everything with a simple thought, on the other hand there are dreams that are hard or impossible to control. Both cases are quite rare though.

Sheer willpower does it for me. If you can focus and hone your will, then you probably can do anything. If I have a huge boar charging at me, and I need a spear to defend myself, I essentially think "Goddammit, I better get my spear, because if I don't..." I usually never finish because by then I have my spear.
Don't think 'I sure hope my spear appears", think like its impossible that you don't have it otherwise. Be able to convince yourself.
Go over to your sink, and think to yourself "When I turn this knob (or whatever the hell you gotta do to get water out), water will come out. Theres no logical reason why it shouldn't." Then water comes out if you payed your water bill. Think that its impossible for whatever you want to happen to not happen.

But thats how I do it.

Definately practice self-hypnosis or at least autosuggestion. It's like WILD, except you do it during the day and don't fall asleep. It incorporates belief and visualization. You can paralyze your limbs or eyes, have them moved by visualization; you can also reduce pain to zero if you're good (do to your arm and test by pinching). Another thing is feeling intense differences in temperature. It goes on and on but the most important thing is that you practice during the day when you have full concentration... This will easily increase your skill in LDs.

That's a good idea! I also have only tried believing *whatever* will happen, but visualising it sounds like it should work. I'll have to try it.

My opinion is practice makes perfect. Even if you believe you can do it, you won't always succeed as there is that nagging doubt in the back of your mind, but willpower can overcome at least some of the doubt, so if you know it is possible to fly in a dream, but you doubt you can you use willpower to lift yourself up off the ground, and float there. Next time you LD you know you can float, there is no doubt on that, so you float, and then use willpower to move, and everytime you LD, you do something greater, eliminating more doubt, getting you closer to total control. Note that I am still at the beginning part (in general, not flying, that's just an example, if I actually stabilized I don't think I would have any trouble flying as I know I can do it, as I did it once in an LD, before I knew what Lucidity was).

Just wanted to toss in my two and a half cents and say I agree that gestures probably help :3 I also had trouble at the beginning of my LD with doing impossible things, because I think I was still a little skeptical, but toward the middle of my dream, I started parting water and stuff, and that was pretty cool.

I have a problem with feeling silly, though, when doing Power Rangeresque motions So it's a bit like "*makes hand gesture* PART LIKE THE RED SEA! I command thee! *giggle* Oh bugger" for me

It's mainly a case of continuing trying, and trying to assure yourself that you can do it. It's a bit of a catch-22: you can't get away from the idea that it might not work until you've done it, and you can't do it until you've got away from the idea that it might not work.

I had my first lucid 2 nights ago, and the first thing that hit my head. Hey, i'm dreaming. This is my world i am the ruler. I created this world in my mind and i'm in charge of whats going on.

So, why wouldn't I be able to do whatever in my own world where i am in control.
And thats when I flew away and Force-pushed people around in my own world. As long as you got this in mind. My world.. My rules everything is possible.

Exactly how can one be unsure of something to work in you're kingdom?

Same as others, pure willpower / Knowledge.

Whether true or not, The main talk about lucid dreaming is, when you ARE lucid dreaming, YOU are in control.

I Believe that i can do ANYTHING, so anything WILL happen.

And it's based on one single rule:
      - IT is my lucid dream, I am in control.

I can emulate physics (shadow / light / gravity) to summoning people.

The pure thought of "it is my world, I am in control". Gives me all the power I need.
