I had a dream last night, near the end of which I became lucid. Part of becoming lucid was a false awakening, but since I was lucid, I recognised it right away. I opened my eyes and was looking at a poster on my wall right next to the head of my bed. I tried to turn my head, but I couldn't look away from the poster. I tried opening my eyes again, and had another false awakening, which I recognised immediately, and I was still unable to look away from the poster. I moved my hands in front of my face, and couldn't see them. I thought, "woah, I can't see my hands, so much for that reality check..." (which I suppose made it effective). I tried opening my eyes again, and I did, and again had a false awakening. I looked at my hands again, and they still weren't there, but if I looked really hard, I could see a faint outline, like when you look past something and it splits into two transparent things because your eyes aren't looking in the same place. Anyway, I don't remember how many times that happened, but it happened a lot, and I was never able to look away from the poster until I woke up. So the question is: I had no idea how to get myself to look away. I tried different reality checks, I even tried moving, and they didn't work. After I woke up, I thought maybe I should have just punched through the wall. Any ideas?

I have these kinds of nonLDs all the time. Usually I can't tear my gaze away from my shoes. It's very annoying and a bit scary sometimes. Like it produces a kind of panic. Its never happened in an LD though. I imagine that my problem is linked to the fact that those dreams aren't lucid. Becoming lucid immediately grants more volition.

In my younger years, when I was 8 years or something close to that, I had a dream in which I became Lucid due to the intense feeling of fear that is so TYPICAL for a Dream Experience. I realised I was havig a Nightmare. I was being chased by some bad people in a metro carriage and then got out on a metrostation: I wuickly put my fingers on my eyelids ( Who were, in my dream, already opened anyway ) and I Pushed my eyelids open ( eventhough they already were =P ) and I woke up...well not really.

False awakening number 1. Woke up in my room. and saw a strange beads-curtain in my door opening...which in reality I don't have. I realised I was lucid and ''openend my eyes'' again. Woke up but this time in some mediterrenean mountain village near a deeep cliff. I was being chased yet again and jumped off of the cliff thinking ''Nooo bad bad dream again. and I awoke again

This time when I stepped outside of my room I found myself on an underground metrostation: STILL in a dream. That was utterly Bizarre. Then I REALLY awoke.

usually people describe how False Awakenings fooled them and made them loose lucidity.
But in my case the False Awakenings only dramatically increased my Lucidity time and time again.
I guess it had something to do with the Expectation of everything being Normal again in Waking life... And since I was still dreaming the first Unusual occurance Made me realise I wasn't awake yet.

Maybe you somehow managed to be in a dream, but open your real eyes, so they sort of overpowered the dream imagery. That, combined with the fact that you are in SP and can't move your real body, could explain why you couldn't take your gaze off of the poster. That's just a guess, but it makes sense, doesn't it?

I've never had that happen, but I've had verious dreams were I couldn't open my eyes. The only thing that has ever worked for me is to have a false awakening, or wake up. Perhaps if you tried closing your eyes and spinning.

I've only experienced that once in an NLD. I was in this room and I was looking at it and suddenly my gaze just got stuck. Unfortunately I didn't become lucid, so I had to wait it out. I don't recall if I actually did anything to fix it.

Anyway, I think the first thing to do is just relax. It's possible that you were close to waking up and were experiencing sleep paralysis. Possibly relaxing will bring you back into a more neutral position where you can do stuff. You know it's a dream, so there's nothing to worry about. Strange things happen. You can try waiting until you can move again, or you could also try bring your focus even more onto the object you're looking at. Maybe focus on a part of the poster and try to draw yourself towards it or away from it. I'm not sure how well that would work, but it's worth a shot.

When your Lucid during one of these points in time (If it ever arrives again)

Reach in your pocket (Weather you have pockets/can see your hands or not) and pull out a pill. Tell yourself this pill will relieve paralysis and let you be free and move. Swallow the pill.

      Give this a shot.

If you can't swallow anything, grab a needle that you left in your bed and inject yourself somehwere with it.

EDIT: Comment erased. While you may think the joke was funny, it's not.

i get this with FA's too. sometimes 10 times in a row. i absolutely HATE it. i will FA, do a nose pinch to confirm it, and then ill MAKE THE MOTIONS to get ouf bed, ill roll out of bed, ill feel something in my room near my bed, ill run around, ill sit up in bed nad get up, but my vision is LOCKED iether on the ceiling or the bedsheets, whatever i "see" when i first FA, then shortly all my sense revert to "being in bed" or i will FA again.

i absolutely HATE this, as some of my best lucids have spawned from FAs, but i also lose so many opportunities for fun to lameass "retina burn" as i liek to call it
