So I managed to have my third lucid dream last night. Hurray for me but I have a problem. I always end up wanting to change the dreamscape completely, e.g. a new setting, new DC's everything. I have read that this can sometimes be achieved through spinning, and have tried 3 times to this effect. It ALMOST works, but I have ended up waking up instead everytime(once was false, the other two were actual awakenings). My question here is do any of you have any other methods that have worked or that you have read about? Or do I just need to take it slower and try changing something smaller before I change the world (haha...)?

Well what I would have Advised you...You said it Right there

Start Small, subtile. Don't try and control anything at all if you're not well developed and trained in LDing yet to increase your Lucidity first.
For Lucid beginners..or Dreamcontrol beginners not knowing where to start once Lucid: Try just Observing the dreamworld. Just calm down, sit back and enjoy the Psychedelic scene you are in. It'll be really awesome and beautifull too, but doing this first, might be a crucial step between Gaining Lucidity and gaining more Dreamcontrol. For me that is the case at least.

thats the advice of someone who wants you to work hard (thats probably the best advice) but another method, is to close your eyes in the dream imagine vividly a door behind u. then say to urself, when i walk through that door it will take me too... (chipotle). this can work. try it.

I agree. In some ways, using expectation to change the dream scene is easier than trying to more actively change it by spinning.

What I always do (and always have done) Is find a wall, a window, a mirror, etc. run at it as fast as you can and dive through it vividly imagining what on the other side (if it was a window i advise closing the blinds first) what will happen is a win win situation:

a) you end up where you wanted to be and can enjoy whatever

or

b) You end up outside the window or on the other side of the wall. You'll be in a new place and there will be new DCs

Hope that helped, but here's some alternate ways just in case :

--- reach in front of you and grab the doorknob, open the invisible door to a new dreamscape

--- pull that pesky virtual reality machine off your head, you were always where you wanted to be!

--- fly high into the air then come back down to wherever you wanted to be

--- turn on the TV and find a channel that has that place you wanted to be at on, jump in

--- pick up the magic teleportation controller and hit the red button

--- hop in your car, I'm sure that place is just up the road

_=-_=-_=-_=-_=-_=-_=-_=-_=-_=-_=-_=-_=-_=-_=-_=-_=-_=-_=-_=-_=-_=-_=-_=-

I'm sure by now your beginning to realize that the only thing that's keeping you from teleporting is your own expectations. overall you have two options for teleportation:

1- trick yourself into believing what your doing is going to teleport you.

and

2- realize that there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to teleport.

When in a lucid dream you aren't anywhere. your in a place created by your imagination. physics, time, space... none of it applies. you never move in a lucid dream, you never do anything except think.

so in conclusion, you should learn to transcend your petty views on reality while within the dreamworld, watch as it crumbles and reconstructs itself molecule by molecule, just because you tell it to.

I have the same problem. Lately, all of my LD's have been in my dark and empty house. I have only made it outside once, only to find a slightly larger version of my ....dark and empty yard.

I used to try to force a change, which would only wake me up. Now I am just trying to extend my dream a bit. I figure that if I have more time, I will be calm enough to make some changes. Not sure if it is working out very well though. I just came off of about a month long dry spell last night.

Unfortunately though, my dreamscape was........ you guessed it, my dark empty house. I had taken a nap on my couch, and when I became Lucid I sat up on the couch and looked around. I then tried something that was suggested to me earlier. Someone reccomended that I shout into the house, "Is anyone there?" and that I should get a response. The problem was that when I was sitting there trying to speak, I couldn't get the words to come out. I really had to force them. And once I made noise, I noticed that it was quiet and detached. It sounded like it was coming from my real body, not from my dream body.

So then I tried another trick that Leo reccomended. I tried to focus and then get into the lotus and meditate. Well, I didn't try it for long, I ended up waking up while trying it..... actually, it ended up being a FA but I was fooled for the duration of it.

Dear Leixor,

Dreams are a Creative Production... at some level, some intelligence actually has to expend the time and trouble to construct these Dreams. and then these Dreams ordinarily have meaning and significance. I would say that the Higher Mind... the Collective Consciousness... aims to give us guidance, direction, instruction, and then tests, tests, tests as we go along the Way.

So...

For you to have an Alternate Dream Scene ready for when you should Spin or Levitate, then this Higher Dream Mind must have some notion of what you are ready for, what your next step should be.

And then there is the concern of your Higher Dream Mind that you won't take these carefully designed and constructed dreams and blow huge holes into them with impulsive demonstrations of arbitrary Dream Control.

Think back... might you have inadvertently destroyed what might have been Meaningful Dreams. If such is the case then it is possible that your Higher Dream Mind is either resentful or just cautious of being burned twice by the same fire.

Perhaps you can prepare the way by agreeing to some level of accomodation to the Dream Scenes that are Spun Up during Lucidity.

Now, in my own Experience, my Higher Dream Mind does not seem to be disturbed if I Spin or Levitate out of the Ordinary Dream Scene when I go Lucid, so it is probably okay to dismiss ordinary dreams when one goes Lucid. But after going Lucid, if the Higher Dream Mind should provide in whole an entire new Dream Scene, then we should assume that it has some Special Significance and so we should honor that. We should limit our Control to the same level of control we have in daily life -- our choices and responses to what actions confront us. Of course, we are free to use our healing powers or whatever. But we should refrain from simply blowing huge holes in the scenery, just for a laugh.

Blowing huge holes in the scenery is quite far from my intentions. If I was going to just blow things up I could do that just as easily in any random dreamscape as I could in one of my own creation. As for having upset my subconcious mind, I seriously doubt it. My dreams are rarely violent or destructive, and those that are tend to be out of my control (well they wouldn't be if I was lucid, possibly). For example, I often dream of tornados. Quite a destructive force but not one of my own conscious design. I would find it rather silly to finally reach the place I have been wishing to go and then destroy it without regard. Some people might not, but I would.

He dosen't mean litterally blowing holes in it, he believes (as do I) that dreams often carry a significant message, and by changing scene you destroy that message before it reaches you.

I believe though... that some people's dreams will sometimes have messsages.

And my dreams are all 100% twisted crap. Unfortunately.... so is my dream control ability.

So... a big thanks to all of you... I had my best lucid dream by far last night and in it I managed to successfully end up where I wanted to be. I decided to try the find a door and envision what you want is on the other side method. Well there were no doors but there was a big, grand, stone archway, probably 10 feet across and 15 feet high. I decided this would suffice. I faced my back to it and decided when I turned the place I wanted to be would be there. I turned and it wasn't. I tried again this time putting all my focus and resolve into it and turned. It worked! It wasn't perfect, the dreamscape was much less colorful and vibrant than the rest of my dream had been... it was washed out like an old photograph... nevertheless it worked! Thank you!
