Ok heres something I've been meaning to try, but since my lucidity hasn't been up to par with me, i'd like someone else to give it a try.

Go into a completely dark room, and imagine yourself a pair of night vision goggles. The way they work if iirc is by amplifying the light in the room making objects more visible. So put on a pair of those and see what appears, if anything. It may be that if you've never worn them before nothing will happen because you don't know what to expect.

But those who have, I thought this might be an interesting thing to try.

I have had non lucid dreams with NVG's and they worked / looked just the same. I don't see why this wouldn't work while Lucid.

Dear Kastro,

There should never be a completely dark room in a dream.

In Dreams the quality of the Light in the ambiance of the Dream Scene is a measure of the dream's relative Spirituality -- bright and well lit dreams are of a high spiritual quality, where poorly lit, dark or dim dreams indicate a drop toward Nightmarish dispare and dreams of barbarism.

Indeed, it can be used as something of a Dream Sign -- the presence of Light in a room where if one cares to look around, one will see no lamps -- the light just kind of hangs in the air.

I disagree. Personally, I believe the light level during a dream may often be an indication of the light level in the real world at the time of the dream. I believe the light level can be changed, especially in a lucid dream, but initially it seems that it corresponds to the light in your room. Hence why my dreams are generally dim and dreary during the very early morning.

Dark dreams for me are not normally of barbarism or despair; they usually contain meanings referring to aspects of my life that I would rather ignore. You may have heard of Jung's "Shadow".

I used a similar technique once - in that lucid dream i found myself in a very large dark building, there were no windows to go outside so I wandered the halls. Turning on the light didnt work so I used a form of nightvision/mindvision. I'm not sure how to describe that, but I was able to navigate the darkness just fine. Well, that wasnt the goggles, but it proves that you can alter *your vision* to overcome the darkness.
How you alter your vision is entirely up to you...

I dont know about dark vs light dreams. While light dreams are definitely more pleasant and fun, I dont have much about darkness - usually it can be avoided or dealt with in some way.

Most of my dreams take place in the dark. I just attribute it to the fact that I spend most of my life in the dark. Working 8pm-8am doesn't leave much time to see the daylight.

Most of my dreams (the ones I remember) are during the day. Thats because I sleep until Noon or later.

I don't think theres anything meaningfull about a dark room other than the fact that its dark.

While I understand the logic behind this, I disagree with this. I believe that it is not the actual light levels which make light dreams seem of higher spiritual quality, and dark dreams nightmarish, but instead our perception ingrained in our minds of light as holy, and dark as evil. I have changed light levels somewhat in an LD, and I don't think changing the brightness changed to spirituality at all. Anyways most dreams have ambient light, not coming from anywhere.

Back to the point though, that could be interesting, just put on night vision goggles, and see what your mind creates in the room. On the list of things to try.

Why limit yourself to "Night Vision" goggles? Why not just make Normal Vision goggles and just allow yourself to see normally? Wouldn't that be just as feasable?

And I maintain that your dreams are dim and dreary because you have yet to enter into any significant level of Spiritual Life.

My sleeping in the complete dark has never dimmed my dreams, and I have had startling dreams of the Bright White Light, only to wake up so that I could hardly see my hand before my face.

Yes, I have heard of people who have incorporated sources of light into their dreams -- like La Berge's overpriced Nova Dreamer being seen as a campfire or a street light. But notice that these incorporations act as simple points of light without effecting the Ambient Spiritual Light. The Street Light would be a point of light on a dreary street. The 'camp fire' would be a patch of light in a dismal and dark forest.

Again, the Quality of the Ambient Light in your Dream is a measure of that Dream Scene's Spiritual Altitude.

well last night after reading this, I put a matrass in my attelier room, which is pretty dark yet not pitchblack, and slept there. I remember a very vivid, peacefull dream, slightly erotic tainted at some time, being at a friend's place with other friends, and walking home on my bare feet together with a PsychoBillly Friend of mine who also walked on his bare feet.... It was a rather funny dream, overal feeling was peacefull.

Waking up in that rather dark room left me with a very vivid recall of my dream.

I'm going to buy curtains that wil allow me to make it really Pitch Black in that room.

I respect your opinion Leo, but I hope that you are not correct. If you are, then I am more or less a spiritual black hole. I know that I am by no means a holy man, but I know (or at least I thought that I was) that I am in a better spiritual place than many people who tend to have well lit day time dreams.

Well I understand the link you make, Leo, between Darkness and Malicious Dreams.
I have been affraid of the dark in my youth and was pretty anxious in my youth overall and had many many severely disturbing and unnerving Nightmares. However I am convinced that was due to me being very ill as a little child for years. Illness and discomfort often lead to Nightmares.

Now as for the Dark Room: I find Absolute Darkness veary peacefull and it seems to give me a ''blank'' sheet'' so I can fill in what I see Myself with my own Mind: In Low Light conditions I find it much easier to Imagine and let my Imagination alter what I see. And the Level of Light in your dreams, as I see it, has ggot NOTHING to do with external light. It is the so called ''Light in your head'' we experience in daytime dreams we have in the night. I have had dreams about the Brightest sunshine and likewise joyfull summer feelings while sleeping in complete darkness.

I think it is exactly the LACK of REAL light that stimulates your HI to create it's own ( Sensory Deprivation Manifesting in Mayor Hypnagogic Hallucinations. I found it enables me to fall sleep much easier than normal...and awaking slowly in the darkness allows me to stay more in Touch with the Dream I just had and thus it Imroves my Dream Recall.

But since the Mind is a Great Mystery this may differ Drastically from person to person: Your dreams are afterall a reflection of yourself. In a very surreal, syymbolical subconcious way.

I don't know how to say this any better.

What you said doesn't apply to me

Spiritual bla bla bla. My dreams are as light as they would be in real life. For me happy dreams happen in both night and day, dark and light. Sad dreams can also happen in broad daylight.

I actually had a lucid dream that involved night vision. I walked into a room with two monsters there. I had some powers borrowed from Diablo II (the whole dream was Diablo II-like), so I dispatched them using Chain Lightning. In front of me, however, was a doorway leading to a very dark room. Inside was a creature that wanted to attack me, but was reluctant to leave the darkness of the room. I was reluctant to go in there because the creature would have a major advantage. I tried to cast a flare, to lighten the room so I could dispatch the creature, but nothing happened. Then lucidity hit, I couldn't adjust light levels. I was still trying to dispatch the creature, however, but now I had some more options. One thing I tried was making my eyes have night vision. Well, as that would involve changing light levels, it failed miserably. Nothing happened at all. In the end, I just resorted to walking and seeing through walls, and attack the creature with a sword with the safety of a wall between us (yes, my sword could stab through the walls. Actually, I sort of just desolidified the wall, but only for myself.). I had a false awakening before landing a hit, though.
