Okay, so I've had this problem ever since I started practicing lucid dreaming. It almost seems to be getting worse but i'm not entirely sure.
Basically, when i have a lucid dream in the morning and I am very close to waking, I have trouble keeping the dream from fading. Certain things that i have noticed contribute to most of the fading would be: lights, a lot of movement, and a lot of stimulus (e.g. any kind of powers).
This has been annoying me and most of my lucid dreams in the past 2 months have all been when i am close to waking. These dreams are really hard to keep from fading and are completely useless.
My last LD I was in a basement with a couch, tv, and two lamps (one on each side of the room). I was just sitting on the couch when i went lucid. I looked over at one of the lamps. All of a sudden my vision goes from normal too looking through a small 2 inch hole. The rest is all greyed out. I immediately jerk my head away and try and get the grey to go away. I finally do and have normal vision again. I decide to try and do something. I stand up and start walking to the other side of the room and again that triggers the fading. I have to stop again and stop the fading. Eventually, (after several tries to go more than 20 feet without regaining normal vision) the dream ends.
If there is any special way to keep this from happening I'd be glad to hear about it.

I am no expert by anyones description however the technique of rubbing your hands together worked quite well for me last night... as a side effect it felt wierd... like I was rubbing my hands together but they were "asleep" so to speak, numb/tingly... you know the feeling. Anyway this really seemed to work for me. I had a 10minute+ lucid dream last night, it was awesome, and I did the hand rubbing thing quite a few times, and it never failed. Another thing I have heard is just to study your environment. Pick and object and focus on it... I've not tried this. I find that if I try to do too much too quickly, I will wake up. I tried to take it slow last night and it worked wonders.

Morning dreams fade easily, but they are also easy to reenter. If you really want you may jump from one dream to another whole morning using dream reentry method.
