My fist lucid dream was one where I had the full dream, but right after it finished, I said "Wait this is a dream." And as soon as I said that everything went black, and I felt that I was looking at the back of my eyelids as if I was inside my brain looking out. Then I tried spinning to make something appear, but nothing came. I tried again and then I realized that I had never been spinning because I didn't have a body. It was like I was a spiritual entitiy and I couldn't become a physical being. Can someone help me figure out how to keep my body when I have a lucid dream?

I wouldn't worry too much; that was probably just a one-off thing. Next time you have an LD, you hopefully won't have that problem. If you do, try assuming that your eyes must be closed, and try opening your eyes after it goes black.

This sounds to me like you became lucid a little too late. You attained lucidity at the end of the dream, not during it, so you were conscious after your REM period ended. You were awake while you were simply asleep, and not necessarily dreaming. I would look into astral projection in case this happens again, it'd be a great place to start a trip from.

      Best of luck,

Seems like a one time only kind of thing.

The fact that you got lucid is good though.

It seems to me your mind somehow reacted to the realization that this was a dream a little strangely. Almost like it was saying "Wait a minute, if I'm dreaming, that must mean I'm lying in bed. What should I see then? Well, nothing because my eyes are closed." and then it attempted to project that image, producing the sensation of looking at the back of your eyelids. I agree that this should be something that happens once, your mind just has to become accustomed to the idea of lucid dreaming. If the problem does persist, I'd try to think things in the dream like "If I am dreaming, I should now be seeing dream images, not the back of my eyelids, because my normal senses are overridden in a dream by mental ones.". Maybe your mind will accept that reasoning. Keep us updated if it happens again, but I think most likely your next lucid will be very different.

I've had two LDs since them and although I didn't have any control I at least had the dream world to look at. So I guess it was a one time only thing.

I have had this experience a few times. The last time was particularly interesting... I was flying in a vortex of images and I heard a LOUD chattering, much more grotesque than heard on any fantomas record, and I knew it was a dream. I then found myself in a void. Perhaps next time, I'll appreciate the strange void I am thrust into.
      Make sweet love...

Yep, this is called "the void" and many LDrs seem to experience it at some point. I found 2 ways out of it - first one is imagine the previous dream setting and you will be transported there. Another one is opening your dream eyes

Thanks for the info, in case this ever happens again now I know what to do.
