The way spinning is supposed to work : You imagine a location or dreamscape that you wish to see, you focus on it and start spinning. The act of spinning is nothing more than a crude attempt of letting go of the current dreamscape.
What most people (including myself) do when they spin is they just spin. There's no clear idea of where they want to go, what they want to see. Even if there's an idea, the act of spinning splits the spinners awareness between physical sensations and focusing on the imagined location. So when people spin they destroy the dreamscape they are in, but there's nothing to replace it with. So the dreamscape either morphs into something random or tries to recreate itself but many details change. Or even worse you just wake up.
What I did was refine this technique to it's pure form. When I want to alter the dream I focus on the dream scene I want to visit. I keep focusing on it for a few seconds and completely let go of the dream around me. This act shifts me in the new location. Almost the same as spinning except my awareness is focused on the new location and there's nothing to distract me.
This method has a lot of application - you may use it to change light levels, reenter faded dreams, "reload" the current dream and teleport.
