If you experience a dream where you are standing beside your own body, the one thing i would like to try is to see if you can shrink yourself down as to enter your own mind would you visualise it as a room of photographs and each of the photos represents a memory of your past. If you wished to you could then enter the photo to relive the memory.

This may seem a bit freaky to some ppl but i think it would be interesting to see what people would visualise the inside of your mind as.........maybe a room of doors and behind each door a new memory.

Or a control room and every button on the panel takes you to a memory.

I would like it if ppl could try this and give feedback on what they perceived as their inner mind and what setting they found them self in.

      Thx

Yep. This is very well possible. You could find a door, and right before you go through it say "I will now go to the memory-center of my brain where all my memories of important events in my life are in the form of photo's" or something. Then just "jump in" the photo, or touch a photo and say "As soon as I let go, the scenery will change and I will relive this memory".

Though this might not work entirely, because I think it's near impossible to have ALL the memories in your subconsciousness fully.

Have you ever been able to accomplish this in one or more of your lucid dreams, or is the above your own experience?

      Thx

If you look at my signature, I have up until this day - the 21st, not had a lucid dream

I've been reading Lucid Dreaming experiences and techniques for 8 months (in 4 days) and thus I can definitely assure you this'd probably work.

Thanks for your reply, im glad you believe its possible to achieve this!

I think thats why this idea is so interesting to me because everyone would perceive their inner mind and memorys in a different way and setting to view them.

I have only had one lucid dream so far and that was initiated by a DILD which lasted about 2 minutes in the form of a false awakening. When i am able to master my chosen technique which is WILD i intend to try this, Just to see what my inner mind and thoughts present themselves as.

So if you have any interest in this idea i would like it if ppl would report their experiences with this idea.

      Thx

But isnt is weird how we are attracted to the freaky things in life ..... LOL :-)

I tried this myself in my last Lucid Dream and i perceived my inner self as a giant photo album with photos of my still image memories when i tried to enter the photo i awoke, this may be down to the excitement of my idea taking place.

      thx

There are certain obstacles that are unchangeable for me. WILD is the only thing that'd work for me (yes, I cannot do DILDs for .. private reasons) and I've only just started to try WILDing seriously. So it's like I started all over. It's ok, I have plenty of resources

No problem im the exact opposite, when i tried WILD i got nowhere fast. My DILD's have been quite successful, mind you it was after i watched films that involve lucid dreaming such as:

      - Vanilla Sky
      - Waking Life
      - What Dreams May Come

They are a good inspiration just before bed or after the WBTB method.

      Hope this helps

      Thx

I am certain that once I have the lucid dreaming ability to explore my mind, it will prove either far more complex than I could have imagined, or far simpler.

Im sure it would be quite complex and maybe hard to grasp, but imagine the possibilities that it could bring you could revisit great and even sad moments from your past. I dare say it could help you remember things which you believe you couldnt remember such as child memories or surpressed memories.

      Thx

I've heard a similar idea before. That one involved a hidden room with controls over your body. Pretty much whatever you couldnt normally control you could control from there. Dont know if anyone succeeded with something like that.

I see a couple major obstacles with your idea. First of all it would require a pretty spectacular location change. Which is hard by itself. But even if you manage to appear in a room full of levers, screens and buttons chances are they will malfunction and wont be tied to any specific memories.

I can see a simpler solution. Think about the memory you want to revisit before going to sleep. Write what you can remember about the location and environment around you. Look over that and add as many details as you can remember. Once you are lucid the following night recall what you wanted to revisit that memory and focus on the location. Shift into that location and proceed with the memory

      I may try this tonight.

I see what you mean, as i am only a novice to lucid dreams then i am trying to take lucid dreams to their limits with what my ideas allow. The scene change would probably be the hardest part along with the possible malfunction of the levers and buttons just like when trying to turn a light switch on in a dream you never can be sure of the outcome of that action.

I am also glad that some other lucid dreamers such as yourself have considered this idea for your nightly adventures.

      Thx

..then you have reached "The Third Gate" as per Carlos Castaneda's description. What you are supposed to do then is turn away from your sleeping body and move off. This may not be as easy as it sounds, as the sight of one's sleeping body exercises an almost irresistible urge to examine it in detail, forgetting what you're supposed to do next.

Why must you turn away if i want to enter my own mind? Surely i would try to somehow enter my own mind through a portal or a door is that what you are saying?

I done that once in what I suppose was a meditation, but I hate using that word. It sounds too religious. I ought to do that again sometime. It was fun.

SoStyles: "Why must you turn away if i want to enter my own mind? Surely i would try to somehow enter my own mind through a portal or a door is that what you are saying?"

No. What I'm saying is that whatever plan you may have, the sight of your sleeping body pulls you in and won't let go. You'll easily forget what you're supposed to do. That's why you should immediately turn away and move off..

..and as for your "entering my mind" remark, there are basically two schools of thought in LD: one maintains that it is "all in the head", the other equally asserts that it is the portal to a parallel dimension that exists independently of the human psyche. The former group are made up mostly of young neo-LDers who follow the LaBerge paradigm; the latter group consists mainly of old-timers who follow the Castaneda paradigm, but of course there are plenty of exceptions to that generalisation.

So... if and when you ever succeed in reaching the "Third Gate", take a look around you, and if what you see is your normal everyday bedroom just as you know it with no anomalies, and you move off outside into the street and hear your neighbours talking about whatever, and you wake up and look outside and there are your neighbours talking about the same stuff...or you travel to a friend's house and see them reading a certain book, and when you wake up, you check with your friend to confirm what he was reading, and you are right...are you then going to say that it's "all in the head"?

[I forgot to add that not all "sleeping bodies" that resemble the self ARE the true sleeping self.. a favourite "trick" of DCs is to impersonate the self... so stay frosty].
