Hello. Just writing because I have a question about flying.
Sometimes in a dream I will fly, like last night I was in some sort of compound, there were tall gates with barbed wire, so I ran a bit jumped up and flew untill i got over and a short distance after that.
My problem is that I can't keep flying for some reason, I lose power or something like that.
Is this from thinking about it to much, or..?
Understand what I'm trying to ask?
      -Thanks!

I've recently learned how to fly in my dreams. The way I do it is to get a running head start (like you) and jump into the air. I just think about the direction I want to go, and kind of nudge myself into that direction. I never have a problem staying in the Air though, so I can't really help you there. My problem is waking up while im in the middle of flying.

What I would suggest is, just try to go with it, don't try to control it too much or think on it too much. Look the direction you want to go, and kind of give yourself a nudge. If you notice your starting to fall, don't look down, but instead start looking forward. That might keep you in the air.

I have the same problem - I cant use conventional "thrust" flying for long - I lose power and crash. So far I use levitation and attraction flying the most - they rarely fail for me.

To use attraction flying first levitate and then direct your attention to some object and then fall or attract towards it. As you get close to the object shift your attention to another object and repeat the procedure. Quite simple yet very effective.

Yeah I had flying problems too... they seemed to have resolved themselves recently though. I kept crashing or not being able to stop going up and such. I think now I've realized that I go where I'm looking. So obviously when I look down... I go down. If I look straight up I ascend without control. The last times I did it I tried to look at exactly where I wanted to go. I didn't consciously make that decision either. I just did it once while lucid and behold it worked. I think from what I've read that flying is a pretty personal experience in that the way everyone achieves it seems to be slightly different. You should probably experiment with various techniques 'til something works.

Maybe try to settle with bouncing of the ground, like as if it was 0.1 G. Could still be fun... Or try to create a jetpack? Man I love jetpacks

In my dreams, it would be pretty funny to be a DC and watch me try to fly.

I was in a lucid dream once, and someone was chasing me. So I'm like: Yep. Tonight I will fly. And so I jump up and fall down. Crap. I jump up, and then concentrate on staying in the air, and I just hang there in midair moving forward. There was about six inches between my feet and the ground, and I just move along, having to concentrate to stay up.
In another lucid dream I flew through the halls of my school, but I was waking up so it felt unrealistic.
I had a non-lucid dream where I could fly once, as well as one where I had a jetpack, they were cool.

i think Neruo said something like that
By reading the above post, you have just doomed the world. But don't worry, there's hope! I just saved 15% or more by switching to Geico!

I have this same problem, but I really like what Neruo brought out. Jetpacks. And I think the reason why jetpacks work is because you know what a jetpack does. Its makes you fly. So when it comes down to it, its really just having reasonable evidence proving that you actually can.

I think in the future I will image turning into a superhero and then fly. Everyone knows they can fly.

If your having problems with flying, try this also...

As your falling, don't look down. Imagine that you can jump, and actually try to jump up. Sometimes you can trick your mind into thinking theres solid ground under you (why else would you try to jump?), and so when you go through the motions and actually try to jump, you will actually jump off of solid air, and get more height.

i have this same problem and it really sucks. i've found out that different ways of flying work better that others. like someone said above, each person is different and you have to try different ways until you know what works. i always tried just zooming through air but for some reason i couldnt stay up. so, one time i LDed i flapped my arms like a bird and that worked much better. one time, i found an even better way. i went downstairs (some basement) and opened a door on the floor. inside was a red griffin. i told him to fly steadily and i told him where to go. i put a rope around his neck and held on. it's easy to fly if you have complete confidence in what ever is making you fly. i think that's why it's hard to fly without anything, because your mind can't easily believe that your body can fly alone. anyway, the jetpack would probably be a great idea (the griffin is the same concept in my case). i also like the levitation method, where you imagine something pulling you towards it like a magnet.

I recommend trying to get away from the idea of thrusting yourself upwards; it's very similar to jumping, and all of your real life experiences with jumping end up with you coming back down again. If you can take off from a stationery position, you might find it's easier to keep going after that.

Flying in dreams is really simple.

You don't need a jet-pack or some kind of magical gravity that's pulling you towards a foreign object, all you need is to jump up into the air and never come down.
Don't tell yourself "ok, now I'm gonna have to fight gravity so I can fly!!!!" just jump upwards and -without trying to stimulate some feeling of flying- just keep rising into the air. Its not hard, you don't need superior mental powers, just do it without thought, it won't be easy, it wont be hard.

Think about it, why should you be able to even walk in a dream?

Don't say that, last time I thought that in a dream (low level lucid) I stopped being able to walk.

But yeah, think your going to fly and you will. If you think you'll need thrust, you will. If you don't, you won't.

A little trick that worked for me when I ran out of gas flying, was to arch my back and fly in a curve instead of a straight line. For some reason it gave me a boost of speed.

everytime I've flown in a lucid dream I just jumped. I didn't even question it. I KNEW that I was going to fly( because I was dreaming and in dreams you can fly ). If you adapt this state of mind you will do fine.

My problem is that I can't keep flying for some reason, I lose power or something like that.
I have this problem as well, most of the time. But I did find that if you hold an object out in front of you (like you're holding onto a floatation device) then it sort of acts as your force for flying. . . if that makes any sense.

this holds so much truth, last lucid I was in a viking battle and I looked up and flew, no problem at all, I was thrilled like I hit a jackpot and all I did was expect to fly I knew I was going to fly. ( after firing 2 fireballs at the viking the dream ended)

I flew in my first serious lucid dream last night.

I did the whole superman thing, but I never achieved any serious speeds... Only like 30 mph i guess, barely. And I had to sortof tense the muscles in my arm to keep flying (Pushing the into the air as had as I could)!

Don't try to do something else while flying. Usually it will bring you down and you'll lose focus.

The only time I've flown in a LD, I just looked up at the sky and took off like Neo. I even did his "super-fast-flying-thingie" for a few seconds before the dream started to fade, forcing me to slow down.

I think what Billybob said is right. But if that still doesn't work for you, try something like a jetpack or a broomstick. Then just sort of make it disappear as you continue flying until you don't depend on it any more. Works for me.
