Last night I was having a bad dream. I woke up within the dream ( which I have only done once before) and almost woke myself up, but said to myself hey i'm in a dream. then i was like cool i'm having a lucid dream but i went back to "sleep" inside my dream again within a minute.
How do I stay "awake" inside my dream?

You mean how to stay lucid? Close your eyes and spin around, as if you were trying to get dizzy. Believe me, it's probably the most awesome feeling you have felt in a dream (so far, that is). Then say "lucidity X 1000!". If you have trouble staying lucid, remindyourself that you're dreaming often.
Rubbing your hands will make the dream more "real" and it may prevent you from losing the dream.

Yep, good tips from Coolv there.
I do similar things like:
- Shout 'Clarity' or something lame like that. I have some neat special effects from this
- Rub hands against rough walls and floors
But remember that you can't keep the lucid dream forever. Eventually your REM period will end, and staying in a dream will be virtually impossible.
So don't beat yourself up about the dream ending and not being able to keep it stable, it will happen despite your best efforts sometimes :)
