Yeah me too I have this problem...
as ive heard, you should try blinking, look at your hands, look at the ground, just tell yourself not to wake up, one thing that ive thought about is trying to just wake up, but i havent gotten around to trying that yet.
thx for the extra stuff! :)
what if it seems that the dream ends too quickly to use a technique to maintain it? is there anything that can be done at that point or are you bascially s*it out of luck?
the only thing i can think of is to maybe will yourself back to where you were like concetrate and make the last picture in your mind and keep your eyes closed and lay very still
If your lucid dream lasts very short period of time and fails, dont panic.
As soon as you find yourself in the bed, DONT MOVE. Dont even start actively thinking. Just relax and within seconds you will be in the dream again.
This technique can only be used to extend already lucid dreams tho.
I dont know if this technique will help you if your dream is just 1-2 seconds long, but if it's about 10 sec and you gained enough potential to recall this thing, you are lucky = you've just extended your LD.
Take notice to detail...use all 5 senses...rub your hands together, or on the grass, or push your finger through your palm...take notice of your surroundings...don't really think much, and try not to fumble for things to do...
Yea probably the most important thing is to not get excited. I understand that would be really hard the first few times. Like everyone says, techniques such as verbal commands and focusing your senses work well.
This is where relaxation can come in handy...to have a clear mind...and piece out all the excitement for AFTER you wake up...hehe.Quote:

Once I wake up I can't fall back to sleep and go into the dream. Longest I tried laying still for though is a minute or 2. Any longer than that and I will forget a lot of my dream so I just get up.
I think the hardest part is not thinking too much.
I think my brain is too strong ahh!!
You know in Buddhism, the monks do a thing where you just sit, and
don't think about anything, completely clearing your mind.
Well I think that's impossible, if you think "Ok, I'll not think about anything", that's already thinking something.
and you think that you'll not think about thinking about not thinking.
and so on.... :?
Same problem here. Shortly after i realize I'm lucid, I wake up. I guess I get too excited to stay or go back to sleep. Heh, the only thing I think would work on me is some horse tranquilizers.
I'll be the first to confess that staying lucid after waking up is difficult. I had to play sleep-tag with myself today because I kept waking up during my most extended lucid dream. Just relax man, it'll come.
hehe ive had around 12 (some i dont remember if i was lucid or not) all have lasted less than 3 minutes at the most
seems like i have 2-3 seconds to realize im fading(except for 1-2 lds) then i see black then i wake up then i feel my body stiff then i move
i need to start trying to go back to lucid after waking up
when i was dreaming the other night, as soon as i realised i was dreaming, i repeated to myself "i don't want to wake up" and i didn't. but i don't know if it was random luck, or if saying that helped.
Personally I find that theres 2 ways to lose lucidity - 'cloudiness' and 'thinning'
Thinning (waking up) seems like a problem for me
Cloudiness (falling deeper) seems a little easier for me... if I catch it in time.
One concern I have - aren't these sleep cycles there for a reason?
By prolonging REM, you might be causing other issues with your sleep
i dont know if it is prolonging your rem
i think that if you are ready to stop having rem then you will
but most people wake up from their lucidity by becoming excited
i think if your rem is done while your lucid you will just go to not dreaming instead of waking up
just my opinion though
i had a thought about prolonging dreams:
jump into a painting of a painter painting a painting of a painter painting a painting of a painter painting a painting of a painter painting a painting of a painter painting a painting of a painter painting a painting of a painter painting a painting of a painter painting a painting... Then just keep jumping into each painting inside of a painting, and realise that you are in sub-dreams inside of a dream. so every once in a while, *will* yourself to pop out of that painting closer to the main dream scenario.and also realise that time goes faster in each new painting relative to the previous paintings. (if this is kind of difficult to understand, just watch the 3rd planet of the apes- the one where the 2 monkeys travel to present day earth)
