What is the best way to cause a false awakening?

I have a huge problem prolonging dreams, most seem to fade really fast. I get some good dreams every once in awhile where its not to bad, but it seems dream that start off unclear almost always end right away. Which seems to happen most of the time. I have tried almost everything to stop it from fading but nothing works.

So I was thinking, best way to go about it might be to force a false awakening. Its like starting a new dream and they are normally very clear and I think if you can keep it from fooling you all the time might be better off than staying in your old dream.

Problem is need a way thats more likely you give you a false awakening than waking you up. Seems like a lot of the ways can give you either one. Anyone have any ideas?

It's much harder to cause a FA, then to induce a LD. Basically FA is a defensive reaction of your mind. It tries to kick you out of lucidity...

Only way I've found I can have somewhat frequent FAs is by having a dream sex. Basically 70% of the time I'll wake up and have a FA...

maybe you should work on stabilizing your dreams?:

I'm trying dream spinning and then I try to extend time. Which really helps me.

Perform a dream spinning first, then find a door and say "after I enter the door, I'll find myself in an XX amount of time long lucid dream".

This greatly stabilizes the inviroment and prevents dream from fading unexpectedly.

I have no idea of how to induce an FA, but most FA's usually are when you wake up in the morning and go about your 'routine'. So every time you wake up, do a FA

Funny you bring that up because my last lucid dream I tried just that. I spun then found a door and walked through thinking that. Of course the spinning did nothing at all and I had a hard time seeing the door(yea it was that bad).

See the problem is, I can't make the dream more vivid than it was at the moment I became lucid. If its a good stable dream to start off and things start to fade I can normally get some effect, and even if its only a few seconds or a minute or two, something will happens. Other dreams that start off kind of unclear, I can't do anything about.

Of course 80% of my lucid dreams are the low quality ones so it really sucks. Which is why I am thinking, if I get a false awakening can start the dream over again, more vivid and with more control.

i always hear about FA's happening when you try to wake up, which did happen to me. it makes sense to me because when i tried to wake up, i was simply trying to force myself back into bed, so thats exactly what my dream body did...

no way in hell can you induce a false awakening. A false awakening is when "Wake up" and think that your really awake but your still dreaming. If you induced one, "which is really stupid" you'd just be trying to confuse your self into thinking your awake. So if you want to induce a false awakening, think that when you are dreaming that your actually awake

I can 'induce' a false awakening by the faling technique. When a dream starts to fade, I close my eyes and flal on the ground. I ALWAYS wake up in my bed nad it seems pretty real

You *can* cause a false awakening by trying to wake up.

I did it unintentionally several times.

Basically I expected an awakening to write down a dream. As a result, I found myself in some inviroment, thinking I woke up, writing down my dream and thinking if I should post it in this forum...

Another time I just wanted to get up cause I found myself in a crazy semilucid state...

Bad thing is - there's about 40% chance that you will wake up in RL.
And the FA is genuine - if you dont perform a RC, you will lose lucidity...

False awakening is just waking up in another dream. Yea it can trick you but if your trying to do it your very likely to do RCs and be more careful to notice things. Which means you can use it to your advantage. The real problem I am worried about is waking up for real.

Even then might be worth the chance if you know your waking up in a second or two anyway might as well try it.

you used the wrong term. Shifting your dream is possible to conciously control, and if you offten start out your dreams in your room or where ever you sleep then you will probably shift to that place.
