LD control lessons in The Matrix?

This may have been brought up before, but isn't it odd how the matrix seems a lot like an LD in concept? Bending reality just by willing it and stuff? Seems like the machines using humans as batteries and allowing them to live lives in the matrix is symbolic of dreaming, and knowing you are in a matrix is just like LD's, at least to me.

Anyone else creeped out by this? Maybe there are lessons we can learn from the movies, like how WE can bend reality in our LD's?
True insanity is doing the same thing twice and expecting different results.

there are similar concepts that relate to lds. the matrix was influenced by a lot of things like the invisibles comic books, japanese animation etc.
maybe they were influenced by ld too i dont know.

This has been mentioned before, I think it was a long topic too.

It is quite similar in some respects, like the whole needing to believe its possible in order to do it.

I guess there are some similarities...but in the Matrix, it was like REAL conciousness...and you didn't have to 'WAKE UP' when you didn't want to

LDs are very much like the matrix. You spend your dreamlife being a "mindless zombie", rationalizing everything, ignoring the obvious facts...
But by "waking up" in a dream, you may bend reality to your needs...

Maybe matrix was planned as a movie about LDs, but teh concept was too shocking

I doubt you can learn anything from movies, as they are not designed to educate you, but to entertain you...

in the matrix, morepheus said that the matrix was a computer system, and by doing all the cool jumps, they are merely hacking the computer system.

if the matrix worked in the same way as luci dreams, the agents wouldnt stand a chance, as neo or any of the others could stop their hearts in an instant

the two are similar in some aspects, but nowhere near identical

I know I am bad, but I just started watching Matrix Revolutions last night.

Yes, I am really weirded out by how much lucid dreaming is like being in the matrix.

      but

I'm weirded out in a sorta cool way, you know? 8)

yeah its cool how when your actually trying to find or see certain things they stick out like crazy

also try this if your ever in a crowd

think of a body part that is visible such as ears then say ears to yourself and think about them then while your looking around all you will be able to focus on are peoples ears

      its cool

Yeah the matrix - LD parallels are quite cool 8)

There is only one big difference I see
In the matrix their artifical reality was a dangerous place with physical consiquences (in a detached sort of way) They only went there because the had a serious job to do.
In LD there is no danger ( well no physical danger, mental and emotional angles could be argued ) And we're all trying our hardest to get in there for fun and/or personal growth.

The experience its self is quite similar tho.
I've been so lazy - someone kick me.

The fact that we cannot get hurt by anything in the dream world makes all the difference. If you knew that you could die in a dream(and thus die in real life too) would you be trying to jump off buildings to fly? Would you purposely induce fights?

The fact we are safe and sound in our bed makes all the difference....
      If I hadn't made me
I'd be more inclined to bow
Powers that be would have swallowed me up
But that's more than I can allow...

You're right if you mean you can't get physically hurt in a dream, although I've been shot before and upon waking I felt the pain for some time after (although it wasn't intence). Whenever I die in a dream I always wonder (without words) "What's after death?" and simply wake up.

As for flying...oddly enough I can never fly for very long.

I know, this happens to a bunch of people. But still, you do not face the dangers that you face in this world while attempting these feats, nor those that you face in the matrix. At least when you die in your dream, you don't die in real life. There is no fear of death, while in dreams, or at least there shouldn't be...

I have also been "hurt" in a dream before. Just last week I had a dream that I was holding onto a very sharp knife (on the blade) while I was talking to someone, it started to cut me but I didn't have the ability to drop the knife. It started to cut me pretty deep and it hurt a lot, I then gained the ability to drop the knife and shortly after I woke up. The exact spot (which was on the side of my pointer finger between it and my thumb) hurt pretty bad, like it was cut, I was still rubbing it for like 10 minutes after as it slowly went away.

      ouch

Being shot in a dream is interesting if you havent actually been shot before IRL, I find pain in a dream much more real than pain in real life, maybe I'm just strange, I tend to rarely feel pain in dreams now because of Lucid Dreaming, As I lucid dream alot I have learnt to ignore weapons and pain, or to totally dismiss them all together which means I am invunrable in my normal dreams.
I live to dream because I dream to live.

felt the pain for some time after [/b]
Funny that you mention that.. with my wolf dream where it tried to bite me (but just went right through my arm)... I woke up with a odd aching feeling in my arm.
Didn't know if it was cause or effect.... Hard to know if the pain caused the dream, or vice versa

The only clear diference between LD and the Matrix that i can see is that everyone is linked together, and the fact that the people "living" in the matrix haven't experienced the "real" world, and therefore they treat the matrix as their own reality.

You could look at it as if we actually dies when we leave the world we were born in. All humans, in this "real" (seems pretty sureal somtimes) world, everyone is born here, they look at this world as theirs. Same with the people in the matrix, they were born in the matrix, thinking that was the real world, and therefore, their mind has trouble of leting go (staying alive) when they are unplugged from it. And so they say in the movie.. Morpheus says somehting like "We usually dosen't take out people at your age, their minds has trouble leting go." And that may sugest that the children, that still thinks in a creative way (as the children at the oracles house), are the only ones that can accept that their whole world has been a lie...

Anyway, it seems like that from my point of view.

Edit: I have been severely damaged in a couple of dreams. Actually i was snowboarding on a mountin, i flew to the top, and taking the snowway down. And then I'm in a avalanche.. It all ends with that I'm all winded up around a tree, i couldn't stay lucid.. But when i woke up, my whole body hurt like hell, no actual damage, it felt like i have been fighting last night, or dancing, or so. And i hadn't done a thing the night before, it was creapy.

When I first saw the matrix... it weirded me out...

That feeling that something wasnt right, that splinter in my mind... that is how I come to LD just a feeling most of the time and I finaly wake up inside.

I too feel pain in dreams, though I am starting to learn to controll it, its not easy though =/ my stupid scientist half has a hard time beleiving it and makes it hurt. I found getting shot with a 22 sucks ballz but tends to piss you off specially if you are fighting for your life and dont realise its a dream if its not in the head you can take a few shots.

During some early wars with natives in america and africa warriors would go insane and continue attacking after they had been shot with rifle rounds.

The mind is an incredible thing my friends, if you harnes it you can hold the life within you long enough to complete somehting even if you are mortaly wounded. You can expand your awareness and know what is around you. You can also impart your will into objects and give them purpose. And that purpose can even be felt by other people. and so much more.

This shits real kiddies and its creepin me out
"A knight is sworn to valor.
      His heart knows only virtue.
      His blade defends the helpless.
      His might upholds the weak.
      His word speaks only truth.
      His wrath undoes the wicked."
