      Nightmare Control?

Has anybody woken in a nightmare and managed to confront it/control it (As opposed to run away from it?) Has anybody ever become lucid and purposely INDUCED a nightmare for the purposes of confronting something?

Nope never, usually if I have a ngihtmare, the scary part happens suddenly without warning and the shock causes me to wake up instantly.

I frequently had nightmares, and part of what worries me is the whole, "If you think it, it will come" aspect of LD. But I guess eventually it should be just like any other part of the LD. When I was a kid I'd realize I was having a nightmare (Kind of a LD I guess), and then force myself to wake up instead of having to confront it (Daddy, please stop touching me! *Just kidding*)

When I'm feeling really angry or upset I do sometimes imagine people I hate or people that have caused me stress and beat them up a bit, I kind of hate doing this afterwards because I have a feeling I'm beating up parts of me, but when I have nightmares I do choose from levitating away or fighting them depending on my mood. Of course when I fight I win because I bend the laws of physics.
I live to dream because I dream to live.

the "If you think it , it will come" concept used to bother me, but now I know that I *never* think about anything like that in a LD.

If something unexpected pops up, it can be easily beatn/defeated.

My cousin says she has lucid nightmares all the time.
She will be running away from something and just go "wait, this is a dream" and stop running.

What happens to her? What does she do when she stops running?

I would think that she would pull out a ba$tard sword, long sword, scimatar, beheader, shotgun, pistol, rifle, rpg, bat, chop sticks, barney or other such freakishly cool weapons and kill or torture the monster(most likely with barney)man barney is creeepy

      Hey.. Pick me Pick me
I'm an expert on this subject!!

My main method of becoming lucid is by means of nightmares
I have a natural reaction to anything attacking me, or even sometimes just panicking.

The best example I have is of the time I was in some sort of hi tech prison on an alien world. And an earthquake erupted and opened the doors.
A big glowing-eyed wolf attacked me.
At this exact moment, I said 'This is a dream!'
I turned ghostlike, and the wolf bit right through my insubstantial arm
I then kicked it around a little, rodeo'ed it, etc
I even drew up a forcefield that it couldnt get through, and teased it! harhar...
I must be a little evil somewhere deep inside.. :/

I like nightmares, there exciting like watching a movie.

When I wake up from a nightmare all of a sudden I would fall back to sleep to see what happens next.

      Nightmares don't scare me.

Does that mean they aren't nightmares?

I enjoy violent video games. Last night I killed an entire army of ice monsters with a sword/katana (while dreaming). I was about to start on the ninjas. Then I woke up.

All this happened after someone knocked me off a cliff. I rock climb.

      I didn't even know I was dreaming.

      I'm strange. I know.

I know...He tried to kill me in a nightmare one time..o.o...It was like a video game replaying over and over. People turned into him. I go to a part. I died. *restart* I was walking. people turned into him. I dodged where I died last time. I died. Repeat again and again...o.o..It was like from the matrix, when the people were turning into barney, like agent smith..xD

I used to wish i had nightmare. and i did almost every night. Then i would do what is called a NILD (nightmare induced lucid dream). By doing this, i could enter VERY high-level LD's that could last many hours or days.

I don't have nightmares anymore, so i have much more trouble.. i can induce low-level LD's with WILDs and MILDs, but nothing like i could with nightmares..

Hope i start gettin nightmares soon.

I find nightmares are an excellent dream sign as they usually push the boundaries of reason at some point. Though I'm often amazed that I dont notice sooner! I just posted one on 'slimslowslider's selected scenes' in the dream journal section. (sorry I'm not sure how to paste in the URL)
This was a particularly good example (for me) of using lucidity to challenge fears, by taking control of my actions but letting the dream continue 'on its own'. When fully lucid there is no nightmare, as the entire dream is under conscious control...

Well, i had my dream on a great war.. That involved time compression and lasted 2 weeks in dream terms..

That, to this date, has been my only violent dream where i used a weapon. I have had nightmares.. but i usually make them disappear.

I should try swords.. that seems like fun, today i tried reading and eating and callin up someone on a phone. Its all good, i hope to improve my time compression and have a century long LD.

Oh, and my LD's long ago, i used to call them flying dreams, cause i had control of flight... i called them lucid only after I heard the term.

Thats great - by going into the dark room did you also overcome a fear of the unknown? Do you still have other nightmares where dark is frightening? When you were lucid was the only control you took to decide that nothing would hurt you?

i made it stop by erasing it like with white out using my hand[/b]
then force myself to wake up instead of having to confront it

Hope I'm not miss-quoting anyone... LDs can be enjoyed like videogames, and it can be very empowering to defeat monsters by bending the laws of physics. This way however may be just dealing with the effects rather than the cause. If instead of zapping the monster you can find some way of learning what it represents, what part of you it is trying to show you, then you can perhaps overcome the fear or assimilate a part of you that is rejected. This can be done in a number of ways - one is befriend the monster and simply ask it "who are you?", "what are you doing in my dream?", and "by the way dont be cryptic!" Another way that I used to use (I rarely have nightmares now unless I induce them) was to ask the monster for a present. This can help overcome the problems of cryptic answers, or forgetting the answers, beacuse the present will be a symbol of the lesson to be learnt, or a summary of the dream, which can be taken 'out' of the dream. The Senoi suggets then making these objects and meditating on their meaning as you do so. Several times I was given magical objects inscribed with runes or glyphs which I would then have to look up in a library (this was pre-Google!!!) - they were always extremely relevant.

      Sweet Nightmares!

I wear glasses, and when I get nightmares, my vision gets really blurry. Then I'll realize its just a dream, close my eyes, and say to myself 'this is just a dream.' if I open my eyes again I get clear vision again.
