      Retaining common sense

      Hey

I have LD's quite often for someone just starting. As my sig shows, I've had 4 now in a week. A few before that too. The very first one I had wasn't clear at all, and some things, my kitchen especially, reverted to cartoon-like drawings after a while. It was long though, and that was cool.

However, I'm noticing a big problem in all my LD's. I have perfect control until I do an RC, and then I have zero control. Or maybe I do have control, and I just don't know it. I don't think things through at all, and end up wasting my time opening and closing my bedroom door, or something stupid like that. I've spent every LD trying to summon someone, despite telling myself over and over again I won't do it. (Oddly enough though, I actually managed to do it last night. I was a little off though. Shooting for a specific attractive blonde girl, I got another attractive blonde girl I've never seen in my life. I woke up immediately afterwards. It seems the curse of the lucid sex strikes before I even get 5 feet away.) It seems that I'm being guided along against my will, and I don't muster up the effort to go against it.

I know that paragraph is just random sentances thrown together, so to sum it up:

      1. I can LD, but when I'm in them, I lack all common sense
      2. While I'm subconsciously controlling the LD on some level, I can't do what I want, ever.
      3. I can NEVER remember anything about my waking life, which is annoying.

What do you suggest to solve these problems?

      1) You lack common sense? You sure you aren't just dreaming? In my experience when I am having a normal dream I will have no common sense however upon becoming Lucid it will be just like myself in my waking life with all of my common sense.

      2) You have only had 4 Lucid Dreams don't expect to be an Expert at it with such little experience that's not the way it works, don't expect to be King Of The Mountain on your first few tries. Smart small and gradually work your way up.

      3) This one can sometimes escape us all we may be Lucid but we may not remember to do things that we wanted to while we said we would when we were awake if that made sense. If you have a mindset of doing something before you go to sleep however this will greatly help you to remember.

I also noticed at your description of things that it sounds like you aren't always Lucid. If you were Lucid I doubt you would be opening and closing a door over and over or some of the other things you said. Like I said there is a difference between knowing you are dreaming and being Lucid. It has to "Click" and you become aware for it to be Lucid.

However you may have been Lucid and if so my bad.

And just like that for me it has changed. Yesterday I had good control and wasn't stupid for the first time. This is a good sign for you, just don't give up

I know that at least at the beginning that I am lucid. My recall is pretty good, and I always remember doing various RCs. Count fingers, breath through plugged nose, then rub hands. Every time. I also always remember what I like to call 'lucid light', which is a strange lighting effect in some of my dreams, and basically every time I've seen it I've questioned if I'm dreaming. Scares the crap out of me for some reason, too.

However, it's quite possible that I'm losing lucidity halfway through and not realizing anything.

I have the exact same problem. I've had only 2 lucids but in each I lacked any common sense. My behavior was completely different from my regular behavior, upon waking it still felt like a regular dream where I just did lucid-related stuff; the list goes on.

Anyway, I don't know what to suggest. If I fix it I'll PM you, but other than that.

Anyone who had and solved this issue?

Yes this has happened to me sometimes I will go from being completely Lucid and then I might get caught up in something and this causes me to Lose Lucidity and I have not realized it and then I just go with it as if it were a normal dream I know what you are saying.

Well you can have normal dreams where you are not lucid but you still possess your lucid abilities like flight etc. So this could of been something that happened.

It could also be instantly losing lucidity as soon as acquiring it. I know that I recognized it was a dream, and then did actions with a "its a dream I can do anything" attitude, but by that point I wasn't lucid and don't think I ever actually took conscious control. It's basically like any other dream, just with false-realization of it being a dream.

Wow, seems like you will have lots of time to practice. I would take clairitie's advice when she says that you should at first be a stranger, a tourist in the dream instead of trying to acheive anything. like just walk around and feel everything, talk to people, dont try to do anything in a hurry or else you might get swept away into ab-lucidity if you know what i mean.

but yeah common sense usually is gone in dreams and LDs but thats someting ive read that will lessen in time. But uncommon sense is very regular, like when people try to tell thier dream characters that they are dreaming. well Im very jealous of your innate abilities, So keep striving for that control!
Dreaming is forgetting the basis of reality, remembering it is to be lucid.

im probably the worst person here when it comes to keeping sense in a lucid dream >:/

I have serious memory problems when I am lucid. in one lucid dream I wanted to transform into a wolf, since I always lucid dream in first perspective I wanted to make sure my face transformed too and not just my arms and legs. So I summoned a mirror in a room and lo and behold, I forgot what a wolfs face looked like - and I forgot what color they are normally. I ended up looking like a funky bear.

Othertimes when recalling events that happened during the day, I actually remember events that didnt take place D= just kinda weird being so convinced this is what happened before you went to bed when, thats not what happened at all

Im horrible at the lucid challenges here, I get so distracted easily. I remember the butterfly one. I found the perfect tree, started to climb it, thought about the transformation - and out of the blue I decided that I should eat the snow growing on the field instead.

I find that when im lucid, I can really only focus on the here and now. So completing a challenge just so I can tell people the next morning what I did doesnt make sense to my lucid self
