I do it like you say..

I used to have trouble "soaring" in dreams. Then I met this sweet litle girl with the mind of a master! She thought me how I needed to relax more, do it more "effortlessly", as the effort, is what keeps us on the ground..

I feel like I am floating in thin water...

Like if you go to the seabed, and there find a salt lake, and see the "layers" ...

When I think about it, water and air, is about the same stuff.. :p

Either way. Earth got a magnetic field...
      Humans got their own fields..

      Magnetic levitation?
I know who I am, as I become...

Oh, my bad. I might have misread..

I only take "the first stroke".. Just to get of the ground, then I do the superman fly, or anything I want.

I really had trouble doing this though. Maybe you should look for a guid next time it happens?
[BTW: From my experence, they never tell me what they know, only if I ask... ]

(I tend to act as a guid BTW, it is much like speaking with people here on this planet, they 'all' need hard proof!) It is great fun though...

Next time you know you are dreaming, just get of the ground (like a meter above ground, or so..), and play with it, like you just discovered a new arm or something? I mean, get the feeling of just staying calm in the air/field, (twist on your own axis, etcetera.) before you go "flying superman style" ..

I get the feeling I know you BTW.. Strange shit..

Well for take-off, I do it Neo-style, as in how he flies in the matrix. How he sort of charges up. It gives my subconscious the idea that I'm going to go super fast, and then I do.

I started flying superman style. This bird had to tell me how to do it properly though... it was weird. But this type of flying got me into outterspace :-D. has anyone ever flown out there?

I have complete control over my flight. I can just jump into the air and start flying around. I don't have to think about it or hold my hands any certain way or anything like that. It's awesome.

In my dreams I have to stand in one spot and think earnestly about flying. If I'm concentrating and want it, then I'll begin to slowly lift off the ground. At some point I start going higher and then I'm flying superman style (but not with arms extended). It's somewhat of a slow float. However, if I start thinking about other things, I crash, because I wasn't purely thinking about flying.

I can definately relate to the thing about trying to do it effortlessly, I've had two dreams now where I had alot of trouble flying because I was trying just a tad too hard. One of my favorate methods of flying is dancing freely on the spot while looking into a reflective surface, and slowly allowing myself to feel 'lifted.' from that point on, I'll just fly away.

I had my first LD last night (that I know of). After doing a few simple things that would have had caused me a lot of trouble in reality, such as punching someone I know in the face, I decided I should try to fly. I went for the Harry Potter approach and grabbed a broomstick that was lying on the ground. I went maybe 10 feet up in the air before I crashed down and woke up.

I'll wait a few more dreams before I try to fly again. I'll probably forget the Harry Potter thing as well.

I remember once i became lucid in my room and i decided i was going to fly so i jumped out my window but i kinda just crashed straight into the ground which hurt alot, that put me off flying. But next ld i am gonna just visualise myself elevate off the ground i think this will work for me because i can control dc's actions and this is kinda the same. If i learn how to fly i can finally get out of my neighbourhood which i am stuck in all the time because of my crap dream control. (can't believe i never thought of this before.)

I fly superman style, and when I have trouble flying I just shout out where I want to go and I find myself flying there very fast.

I usually take a running jump and start flying. The higher I jump, the faster and higher I will get off the ground. I have to flap my wings (arms) hard to stay in the air, and I sometimes soar along if I'm very high.

Wooh, I'm not the only that flaps my arms when I try to fly, flapping seems to work the best for me.

I can't fly well, but I fall more slowly

I'm a running jumper too, although sometimes I simply jump from a stationary position and soar high. My flying is usually in response to being chased anymore though...I don't have the dream control of presence of mind yet to be able to turn around and consciously face whatever it is that is chasing me.

I only tried flying in a lucid dreams couple times, and I suceeded both times. I think once I was on the ground and hovered up and once I tried and flapping, but the dreams are quite vague now, and I don't quite remember them. Maybe tommorow I'll look for them in my dream journal.

For the people who fail at flying, I suggest to concentrate harder. If you are about to fail remember to spin so you can keep trying and you don't wake up. Or look at your hands. I found that looking at my hands makes the dream more vivid, and that somehow helps me concentrate more.

      I flap to.

It is as if my arms are wings and they slice though the air, they resist strongly moving up and down and move backwards and forward easily (relative to the angle and position they are at, almost like a birds wing). The faster I am going the less fast I have to flap and the more hard I have to (to a point, beyond a certain speed it is just all easy). Sometimes the first jump makes me a bit nervous, usually the critical point when the air gains enough viscosity to glide easily is between the second and about eighth flap. Slowing down I tend to find easier to get very slow and almost hover but If I go to slowly I have to loose height to get enough speed.

Occasionally it is like the effect is 100% all the time and I can lie on the air if I keep my body completely straight or my front slightly concave (if I am laying on my back and I don't want to slide along) convex for laying on my front. This is a different effect really and is harder to control speeds at if you want to go down.

It's quite interesting actually, my RC is whether I can "fly" or not!

I jump up and if I float down instead of the normal thump and rattle that happens in my bedroom (!), I know I am dreaming! Then I can run outside and fly.

At first I used the kind of breathstroke flting, but then a dream character (who happened to be my brother) indicated for me to do the "superman" method. :? He could do it better than me!

I must try a jetpack! Sounds bloody ace!

I kind of levitate when I fly in dreams. I'm often in rooms when this happens and so I am only a few feet off the ground. The last time it happened I kind of zoomed across the room and in a demanding voice I told my dream to "slow down" so I wouldn't wake up.
Later in the dream I wanted to stretch out and flew out on the street, but there I was going too slow so I said urgently: speed up speed up speed up.

I just run and jump. I usually fly horizontal so I can go really fast.

Last night on my fifth ld i finally remembered that i wanted to try to fly. (i haven't tried to fly for about a year and a half) So i leaped into the air and threw myself forward and i was away, i flew through all the back gardens looking through their windows to see who was in there (alot of random dc's) and i saw a window open so i flew to it, looked inside but decided to keep flying. I was thinking as i was about to fly that i hope i can fly fast because after reading this post i recall a few saying that they could only fly slow, but i had no problem flying fast.

Flying is alot easier than i thought it would be and i was very skeptical of dream flying before but i was totaly wrong it's awesome! I'm going to be flying alot more in my ld's from now on.
