      My lucid dreams stink now!

OK I had one short one last night and this is what happened.

I noticed I was dreaming in my house. Immediatly everything started to blur out. I remember to look at my hands. I did, but I could barely see them. When I looked at them things just got worse. I felt like I was moving forward in the dream.

Eventually it was all black and I tried to open my eyes, but I couldn't?!!

Can someone please help me out on dream control?

      Hey zoo,

You know, it sounds like you did everything right. Sometimes it makes a difference when during the REM stage you become lucid. REM periods get longer as the night progresses. If you become lucid during the later part of one REM stage, there's not much you can do (at least, I don't think) - your body controls that.

Do you know if this lucid happened earlier in the night or later? Your chances for longer lucids increase as the night goes - so you'd have a greater chance of 'catching' that window of opportunity during REM closer towards the morning hours.

Keep practicing your looking at hands (and more importantly, RUBBING your hands) and other techniques.

Then it might have been a combination of becoming lucid towards the end of the REM period (or maybe some noise waking you up) and the strength of the lucidity extending technique (looking at hands) that you tried.

Like I mentioned, next time try rubbing your hands together. The point is to occupy your mind with some sensory input from things within the dream (as opposed to maybe hearing something in real life that then gets incorporated into your dream - yet draws your attention to the 'outside' world).

Hi zoo york, I have had lucid dreams for over 30 years now and although control usually seems to come naturally to me there are times when no matter how hard I try I cant control the dream. Sorry I cant offer any help on controlling your dreams I honestly dont know how I do it a lot of the time, it just happens, but please don't get discouraged. Just this morning I had a dream that I was sat with a giant friendly dog, I knew for a fact that the dog could talk and all I had to do was speak first but I couldnt do it. I tried a couple of times but it didnt work then I woke up. aww I was soo excited in the dream too lol

      Hey there,

I'm gonna lend my support to what's already said here. Remember that Lucid Dreaming (or dreaming in general) is not an exact science. There's no "If I do this, this will always happen.", or "If this happens, do this and that will always fix it".

It doesn't work like that for dreams. Even experienced lucid dreamers have dreams where they fail to prolong their dream or have no control over them. Even methods that seem to work most of the time might suddenly inexplicably fail.

The most important thing is not to let it worry or frustrate you, because worry often tends to influence your dreams, like a self-fulfilling prophecy. Instead, just accept what comes, and take the hits with the misses. There's always next night

      Hope that helps,

I will add to that! This year has been rubbish for me in terms of lucid dreaming. It is only really now I have gotten back to the same level I was at last year. I had the same problem as you, They were short, no colour, greyed out then went. I didn't know what was going on!

All I did was try not to stress about it, and went back to basics! Tried working on smaller things first. If youthink about it this way, everything in your dreams is made up by you, and it sounds like you just have this block at the moment, where your mind is having a hard time creating the scenery for your lucid dream, whilst maintaining that consciousness whilst your body sleeps. It's a lot to do. So try working on building up the dream on a small scale, so look for things like your hands, a wall if you are near on, pick a spot on the floor. Find something to concentrate on, but don't try focus too hard as this only causes the dream to fade more.

You should find that by building up slowly from your hands or whatever that your mind then takes over and creates the rest of the scenery for you. And if you see any DC's close by, ask them the best method for you to increase the vividness in your dreams, they will have some pretty interesting answers, which work.

      Good luck
