      The power of speech

In my experience, in order to do fantastic things in dreams (lucid or non-lucid), not only do I have to have faith that I can do them, but I have to tell one of the NPCs that im going to do it, and that they should watch me. Not only does this build my own faith (unless you think your going to embarass yourself), it also puts the thought in your own mind via speech-- you speak what you want to do, and since what you speak typically becomes what you think (much like the MILD technique enters your thoughts into your subconscious), and what you think is what happens in your dream, it WILL happen.

Does anyone else gain dream control by speaking?

I do that a lot, I just shout an order and it will happen. I only use it when I feel I will lose control if I don't.

      Hey there,

In a lot of post-Freudian psychoanalytic theories, language is considered to be THE instrument of the consciousness. The ability to symbolise things through language allows us a massive increase of awareness and consciousness, by allowing us to represent relations between elements that we couldn't by simply working with sensory memories (such as images, sounds, feelings, etc).

And in just about all psychoanalytical theories, consciousness is seen as an instrument of control. It gives us a measure of control over our unconscious drives by allowing to chose, delay and respond to these drives in our own manner.

So with these two in mind, I'd say its hardly surprising that using language in dreams as a measure of dreamcontrol works quite well for some people
