      Smelling Made Everything Perfectly Vivid

I had my longest and most vivid LD last night. Normally, I have to stop myself and touch my surroundings to stabalize things or look at the ground and focus to keep the image from swirling out of view, but last night the clarity was incredible. This whole time I was forgetting one of my senses. SMELL!

I kept smelling this one person who smelled like vanilla and that rooted me into the dream so strongly. I think this was the first time my dreams had a smell.

I suggest that you have a predetermined smell for when you LD. I picked vanilla because I like that smell. Find someone or something, expect them to smell like said smell, and that should increase your hold onto the dream world.

Now that I'm writing this, I don't think I've tried tasting something ... that may get creepy but I'm gonna try it.

I love to smell in dreams! IMO, dreams are much more, realistic (therefor more fun) to use all the senses, especially taste and smell!

I am always using my sense of smell so in my lucids i can smell every minor detail like for example when i walk into different rooms they all have their own smells in lucids.

I wonder... to those of you who don't smell things in LD, are you open mouth breathers when you sleep? Also, do you get alot of colds/allergies? Because I haven't smelled before this and I'm an open mouth breather with tons of allergies.

Nope, I sleep with my mouth closed and get the average amount of colds/allergies. I just don't "recall" smells in my lucids.. which doesn't mean that I can't or haven't smelled anything in them.

I just need to pay more attention or actually find something to smell.

I really ignore all my senses except sight in dreams. I can never remember sound very well, or smell, taste, or touch. I think I'll pay more attention to these now.

When I was going through the process of quitting smoking, I had some very vivid dreams and nightmares. The ones when I was smoking in my dream came complete with the smell, taste, and nicotine buzz.

But, for the most part I am also mostly visual.
