To wake or not?

I had a extremely vivid lucid dream this morning. It was probably the most vivid, colorful, and overall best yet. There was a part in the dream where I was wondering if I should wake myself up and write it down (being as I didn't want to loose the details). Well, sure enough I eventually prolonged it too far, and lost lucidity. When I woke up, I knew I just had a LD, but I wasn't sure what it was about. I had to sit and think for at least 20 minutes, in which I slowly started fishing the details one by one. I never got the full dream, or even the storyline, but I remembered a few key part. Jumping high into the city, creating chaos, looking closely at detail, very conscience, ect.

I'm sad to find out that such a vivid lucid dream could be forgotten so quickly. Makes me wonder how many I've missed out on in the past months. Proves that if you don't keep a dream journal, you'll eventually forget your LDs in the midst of all the dreams. Any tips about waking up out of a LD, and when?

In my dreams, lucid or not, I often have false awakenings and in such an awakening my memory of my dreams is very good, so I write down the dreams on my left arm and then when I wake up I only remember the most recent dream, or writing my dreams down, and hence what i was writing, leading to the dreams themselves.

Another one I do uncontrollably is record (in dream) my dreams on my psp, every psp ownder knows there is no text editor avilable (non homebrew) but the dream me always forgets this, so seeing my psp triggers my memory.

Personally I'd enjoy the dream as long as it lasts and maybe if you do plan to wake up to recap the dream first, but then again I'm nt to experienced making myself wake up.

Closing your eyes in your dreams and then opening is my way of waking at will. Often it will result in a false awakening instead of a real one, but keep blinking, eventually you should wake up for real.

When I want to be sure to remember a LD I simply tell myself right in dream, out loud, to remember it all. It's worked every time.

If it didn't work you wouldn't remember it, so of course it seems to work every time. :-p

I've gotten pretty good at waking myself up. I just ride the dream until it gets to the point that it is fading, then I wake up. I keep a little notepad and pen next to me. I jot down major plott points and any names or details I'll probably forget. Then I go back to sleep. Usually I go into another dream that is similar to the last one I just had.

Generally when i gain lucidity it last through the entire dream, but i think you shouldnt wake yourself up, if you wake up too early, think about all the things you could have done.

I would say just stay in the dream as long as possible. Why lose the big experience to write a smaller experience down? :eek:

if you dont lose lucidity, and just wake up from the lucid, its much easier to remember. If you lose lucidity however, details seem to be lost.

And for me as well. The kiss of memory "death" is if I go straight from a lucid into a non-lucid dream without waking.. it's infuriating how much of my lucid is lost. :P
