Try shouting "increase clarity now" or "increase control now" in the dream. These commands to your subconscious can be very effective. :)
I have similar problems....I think its mostly to do with my recall.
It seems like my 'mind is paying less attention' to the dreams...because I havent been bothering to write them down. (I had a really crap and short LD...after a busy Christas weekend)
If you have a night of good recall; it should be a noticable improvement. AND I suggest doing this once you become Lucid
1) continually check reality
2) inspect/rub your hands...and focus on doing this for a few seconds.
3) focus on your hands with your eyes, when you begin to move somewhere for the first time in the dream...just for a few seconds again....and then get on with the dream.
But IMO...its a recall problem mostly
Yeah, try rubbing your hands together or dream spinning. Also, you could take a moment to stop and try to control your thoughts.
But, how can I use "in dream" methods to correct this problem if I'm dazed, incoherent and unable to remember them?
Add the clarity techniques to your real life reality checks. Instead of plain "reality check," make it "reality check, rub hands, absorb surroundings, think of dream goal."
Interesting development. In a recent dream I shouted out "Stabilize", everything got brighter, and the dream lasted longer then usual. Of course I then made the foolish mistake of starting off with dream sex, I've got to remember to quit doing that, its a waste of a dream. Gotta save that for the end.
Good to see you got past that 'drunken feeling' stage in dreams. I get that from time to time still and I usually just demand clarity or assert that the dream is mine and things straighten out soon after.
Instead of going for dream sex right away preform a few lucid feats right off and save the dream sex as a reward for yourself.
For me it's more like a risky experiment. So far I've never had successful dream sex. The dream always slips away and I usually wake up.
