i have trouble summoning people. And changing the cenery.. some advice please?

you might have read my other post on problems with flying.. i really should of joined this one with that. But oh well!, so summoning and changing the cene, are the two problems that accure during evry LD i have!.. i just cant seem to get the hang of it!..

so, ill say to myself. When i turn around. My desired DC will be there. Unfortunatly, there not. So i try to make them materialise infront of me. Surprize suprize!.. they dont!, i dont no what else to do!.. iv'e tryed so many times but i never sucseed!!.

And then there is changing the cene.. i eventually just gave up after about 5 or 6 tries because considering i cant summon someone. fly, and or use supernatural powers at will.. << (only ever happened once!).. so i just gave up, i figured it's way to extreme, and just not happening. the room stays completely the same!!.. god dam it, im wasting so much valuble Lucid time over this!..

Got aney suggestions?.. would be very opreaciated if someone could give me a heads up brief explanation on why i have so much trouble on this!!.. thanks!:P

Use passive dream control.

This basically means walking to a new scene or finding people.

I am having this problem, i have ever since i started lucid dreaming.

Last night i became lucid in a countryside like scenery, there were lots of fields and things.

This effects my goal massively because i was in the middle of nowhere with no people around, so i decided i was going to try to solve this dream control problem, i thought back to Dreamviews and was trying to think of ways other people summon and change scenery. I tryed several different ways icluding the normal way i try (turning around and expecting a different scenery or a certain person/people to be there) but nothing worked! (i also had full belief but nothing)

This is a major problem because if i become lucid in a situation like this it isn't good, I don't know what else to try.

Hmmn. Maybe you could try thinking of where you want to be before you go to sleep, and how you could get there.
For example; if you want to go to the ocean then follow a river.

Can't help to much for scenery, every time I try to do something radical I either lose lucidity or screw things up bad.

But, I am getting more success summoning people, here's is what I do (I think this goes along with passive control).

For example, say you are in your living room. You want said person X to appear. Go and ask someone in the dream something like, "Why is X at the front door?", and really mean it. then go to the front door, and what do you know? They are there. Or, "why is X in our kitchen? Then go there. If you're not at home, just change it up a bit.

It works!...well, for me...

Last time I wanted to summon someone, I called him up from downstairs. For changing the scenery, try passing your hand infront of your face while concentrating on the scene, that way you don't actually have to visualise the scene changing (or you could find a holodeck :P )

if you're in any room you can just tell yourself that so and so is going to knock on the door or come around the corner. you can also try asking other dcs....and trying to fill in the blanks for them like "weren't you with so and so? they're in the other room right?"

as for scene changes it's kinda weird. During the dream, I just lie down and try to mild....I'll close my eyes and think about some place that I know until the blackness starts filling in.

You can also try summoning portals or going through mirrors tvs....walls or whatever...sometimes you'll get the unexpected. Hope this helps.

Tryed them all and none of them work for me, (well now and again they do) i think it's all psychological.

With regards to flying or any other inhuman ability, try to think of how Neo was in the matrix: If you show even a hint of doubt at attempting something out of the 'ordinary', it will not happen.

I am not entirely sure why this is the case; however, my assumption is that 'consciously' you think you can do something. Whereas, 'subconsciously' you sincerely doubt yourself. It could be this doubt which inhibits your ability. Thus, you must ingrain it into your subconscious that you can do it, perhaps through conditioning?

Here is a real life analogy, there are many tasks that we perform everyday with no conscious input; they're purely subconsciously controlled. Try one of these tasks thinking about everything that you are doing, you'll see that the task will actually become more difficult.

Summoning people, again this rests upon belief. I find it easier if I walk around in the real world believing I really do have some godly powers, this itself may be regarded as conditioning your mind to believe something which isn't true. However, it really helps when in the dream world where you may simply think of the person and they appear.

- One note, if you condition yourself in the real world, try not to walk around telling people that you have special powers. You may find yourself in a padded cell.

I usually find the DCs I start with are interesting enough already.
It can be fun to make do with what you've got rather than god-modding to get some people in.

It was kinda hard in my situation, alone in the countryside. :(

These two problems are pretty common for newbies, I know I had quite a bit of trouble with them starting out.


For changing Scenes:

Dream control is very pliable. The only rule is that you must work with the basics of your dreams (ie. true expectations become things).
So for example if I wanted to change where I was at, I would need to find a way to make myself temporarily really expect that I was in the place I wanted to be.

This is much easier said than done. The expectation your aiming for is a complete one, there can be no doubt or it simply won't work.
The traditional method of changing scenes is spinning your body and focusing on where you want to go. There are a few reasons this works for many people:

1. When your spinning your not really able to make out the scenery around you, it becomes blurry. This makes it easier for you to believe its changing into some new place.
   and
2. The spinning sensation brings your awareness inwards to your dream body -- you begin to focus on the sensation of spinning rather than the place your spinning in. When your awareness is turned inwards in real life your rarely thinking about where your at. Only when you refocus your attention on the world around you do you remember your spatial coordinates. In a dream there is no external reality, so pretty much wherever you think you'll be at, you will.

There are an infinite number of ways to teleport to a new scene, your imagination is the limit. The two I used to use pretty often were:

• Jump into the air and fall onto your back. When you sit up, you'll be wherever you wanted to go.
• Run through a wall, when you reemerge on the other side you'll be wherever you wanted to go.

Spawning Dream characters:

Dream characters are really simple.
Just walk around until you find who your looking for. Call out their name as loudly as you can. In real life if you call someone for long enough they're bound to answer eventually right? Use this expectation to your advantage, walk around the environment and just call out until the deaf bastard hears you.

Try expecting the opposite.

I learned how to fly by telling myself to try and relax and fall to the ground.
I learned how to summon characters by wishing or hoping that they WOULDN'T appear in some way. I usually say "Gosh i hope *** doesn't appear" out loud until i get results.
As for changing scenery, still have some experimenting to do, but spinning around (relaxed, dont force a spin) while intensely visualizing where i want to be has worked a couple times.

My guess on why this works is that when we think of something, the antithesis is also thought about. But also im guessing when you think about it actively, the subconcious (or passive, or whatever) part of your brain recognizes the antithesis. The harder you try and fly the more your brain acknowledges gravity and keeps you from flying. So i actively think about the opposite. In order to be firm on the ground, the notion of flying must be realized as well. In order to run quickly, you must know what running slow is.

Hope it works :)

Try walking through a door knowing that when you get through the one you are trying to summon appears.

I usually close my eyes and focus on what I want to appear. Hasn't really failed me so far.

Yes, I agree. This works for me, just walk into a new scene. :D

I don't know if this happens with anyone else.. but i use verbal commands, and hand movments. To fly i kinda kick off and just fly around or i displace air with my hand.. to teleport.. mhmm i havnt done it by will yet but i would probably spin.. the one time i did teleport was by passing thorugh walls.

As Billy Bob said, dream control is all about really believing it and expecting it.
The 'passive dream control' techniques, like shortcutting, basically just make it easy to expect the thing to happen.

You're going to just have to work on your ability to 'bull*** yourself' IMO.
Stick to shortcutting tricks (walking around corners, etc) until you're much better at it.

What are you thinking when you try to summon somebody? Are you doubting it? Are you thinking of all the ways it could go wrong? Are you thinking of why it will work?

Thinking too much is bad for dream control - don't think WHY... just do it and expect it to come easy ;)

As others have stated, your problem is basically just a lack of confidence in your dream abilities. It's your mind so you can do whatever you want. Just expect something to happen and it will. I know it may sound hard to convince yourself of this but I went through the same thing and its easier than you might expect.

The only time that I still have trouble with control is when I'm having a lucid nightmare. The fear of what will happen to me if I fail interferes with my ability to control the situation. For example, the other night I was dreaming someone was trying to kill my kitty (why would anyone do that!?!) and I realized it was a dream. I grabbed him, ran into a room and tried to erase the door so we'd be safe and just couldn't do it. It was really frustrating and annoying.

Normally my tactics for changing the scenery is to create a portal to wherever I want to go (I always have magic powers in my dreams :) ). This seems for me to be the quickest and most effective way of travel. Especially since other techniques that people use (like spinning or closing their eyes) cause me to wake up :(

For summoning someone, I always just assume they will be wherever I happen to be going - in the next room, a clearing in the woods, further down the beach etc. That way I don't have to materialize them right in front of my eyes but it doesn't take me long to reach them either.

Hey everyone! For as long as I can remember, I have had control over my Lucid dreams. I guess you can say I am a natural. As far as changing scenary, I have found that starting small works. Start with a building and then visualize the buildings structure and details. Once you have done that, repeat the process. Do the same for the streets. The hard part is keeping your concentration on your first creations while developing new ones.

As flight is concerned, you many also need to start basic in order to understand what works for you. I found that two different processes give me the results that I want.

One: Deliberatly Falling Face First. By doing this, I can further realize that I am in a dream thus free from pain. I wait for the impact of the floor and it never comes, thus giving me a weightless feeling. From there, I willl myself forward will looking in the direction that I want to go. After I get the hang of that, I start willing myself in the upword direction.

Two: The Double Jump. This method plays on the principals of the first. I jump and immediately jump again before landing. Because there is no impact, I again feel the sense of weightlessness. I look up and will myself upward.

Over time I have learned to master flying. But if I ever have trouble flying, I refer to these two techniques.

I don't think it is the technique that makes me do it. I think it is the confidence that I have in the technique.

In short, confidence is the key. Let go of the limitations of the physical world.

hey..i'm quit new in this and i've just had my 3rd ld..that was the first really lucid though...and i changed the scene (and make a huge mamoth that was chasing me, dissapear thanks to becoming lucid..:)))..so..this one was really long, i think cause i kept explaining people about the fact that im dreaming, and anytime something didnt work i started to repeat myself that im dreaming..in a really obsesive way actualy, that it truly worked..including scenes and persons..quite amazing..i think the more u repeat yourself that u are dreaming the more in control you are..imagine i was so lucid because of this that i showed someone in my dream that i can wake up in my bed..and i did..i did a reality check..and i went back to the person in the dream telling her the time on my cell phone..it was amazing..

Yep, I've phoned my mother, and expected her to arrive. She did - came walking over the horizon.

I have problems with everything but flying lol. What I do is look up at maybe a 45 degree angle, jump off the ground and pretty much imagine being attached to an invisible untouchable cord that tows you up in the air. After your mind gets the feeling of what its like to fly with the stomach in the throat feeling and such you should just be able to do it whenever and refine your own technique. just believe that you can... because you can.

about changing the scene ...i use the same concept as in the matrix. when neo and morpheous are sparring in the kung foo room and then morpheous says load the jump program... your just there before your mind can counter the thought of it being possible... even have someone or tell yourself that your going to close your eyes and feel a breeze and when you open them you'll be there.

My most successful attempts come from standing at a door and explaining exactly what I want on the other side.

You can also say something like, "If this is a dream I can just blink and <whatever you are trying to conjure> should be here." Since you know it is a dream you also know you should also know that you can do it.

As for flying, I suggest trying to jump and just press yourself forward in the air. I remember when I was learning to fly, I kept trying to levitate myself with my mind. That just doesn't work, at least for me. I had to jump and usually by jumping I do just fine.
