      Nights wasted

Some times, like last night, I have dreams that I don't feel like I'm apart of.
Its like I'm not really there, none of it is in the first person and its more like watching a movie then having a dream.

I know its a dream, because crazy stuff happens that I know could only happen in a dream, but I can't do anything about it because like I said, I'm not really there.

Dose this happen to anybody else and is there a name or title for these types of dreams? Like "Third person dreaming" or something like that?

Dose that every happen to anybody else?

I wouldn't call it a waste, it's how dreaming is basically.

I guess it can be frustrating, when you're not even a part of your dream it'd be pretty hard to exert control over it, seeing as how we are used to influencing the world around us through our bodies, the most natural way to influence the dream world would be through our 'dream bodies' if that makes any sense. Like basically, even though in theory since the world is in your head you should be able to do anything to it, your unconscious doesn't really know that.

The first step I guess would be to gain awareness of your awareness, that you are observing these things, and then to imagine that you are in there somewhere, or that you come in. Once you're in, and you enter your own view rather than being a character you wrote into your own novel, then you can affect it that way.

i am not an experienced lucid dreamer but i have something you can try: When you become lucid in such a "third person dream" you have to try to imagine you are in a cinema and that your views are only a movie. Then stand up walk outside and enjoy your lucid! (Maybe this sounds stupid and especially since i only had 1 LD but i think you can atleast try)

I'm gonna give the ideas a shot, the only thing that I'm kinda worried about is the fact that I learned to take control of dreams when I was a young child having nightmares.
I'm worried that if I don't feel like I am in any danger then I wont think to take control of the dream, I'll just continue to watch it like its a movie.

If it happens again tonight I'll give it a shot

      Thanks for the advice

Dreaming in the third person is surprisingly common. If you use the forum's "search" function I'm sure you could find a wealth of information in old threads on this topic.

I once had a good friend who said he always dreamed in third person, 100% of the time. He also said that he had had a handful of lucid dreams, while remaining in third person. Now, I've only ever had 1 or 2 third-person dreams in my entire life, and none of them were lucid, so I can't really comprehend how that would work, but according to him and other people I've talked to on this forum, it is possible. Unforunately I can't offer you any tips but searching might help you to find some good advice from people who dream in this way often.

Lucidity and dream control don't always come together, they can be seperated. You can have a dream where you know you are dreaming with no control and vice verse.

If you are having a lucid without control, you can really try to imagine yourself getting a "dream body" and moving it. Merge yourself into the dream!

I say, next time it happens. Do what LTKing said, pretend you're at the movies. Then just walk outside. If the doors or locked or you can't get out for some reason, just walk into the screen. (Maybe sounds confusing, just walk into it like you're walking through a doorway). Hope that works for you!
