      afraid of long dreams?

I've heard a lot about people slowing down time while in there dreams and being able to spend days, weeks, and even years in dreams by focusing on stopping time. But would'nt you be afraid of staying in a dream that long and are you able to will yourself back to the awake world once the dream has started. I know that if I was in a dream for many weeks, I would be afraid that I could never get back, or I would start to miss the awakened world. I know it would be really emotional. I just don't think I could spend that long in a dream without freakin out. how about yall?

I'd spend years in a dream if i could. After all it only amounts to about two hours in the waking world. Since most of my LD's seem to range from 30 minutes to 2 hours i'd take the opportunity to spend a week in an LD if i could. Actually im going to start working on that tonight. I'll tell you how it goes tomarrow.

Many of my dreams take place in real time so i've never spent that long in a dream. Maybe i should try to stop time...

Most of my dreams are rather long, I just can't remember more than a few parts vividly.

I've always wondered about those people who have spent 100 years in their dreams.. Wouldn't you get tired of living? I mean, no one wants to get old and die, but eventually all human beings must want to move on. Then again, maybe emotions such as these are different in the dream world. I don't know what I'd do if I spent years in a dream! Like right now I'm 18, and if I woke up in an hour and realised that the past 10 years have been a dream and I'm really only 8, I'd be like, "..Aww shit.."

Hahahaha, yeah, shit would definately sum up the feeling quite nicely...my dreams aren't very long, only usually about a day in the dream world...maybe two if i'm lucky.

I'd spend ten lifetimes dreaming if I could. And no matter how crazy they get, this life will always be waiting for me. I bet Ive already done it and just woke up groggy and didnt remember a day of it.

I think spending years in a dream, where I know I'm dreaming, and not being able to wake up whenever i wanted to would freak me out... it'd be seriously freaky and scary... Control is essential.
But then again, spending a few days in a dream would be nice, just to experiment and play around in the dream world...

I never had one that long but I think if you did you would end up forgetting huge parts of it.

Maybe life is just one big fucked up dream and one day will wake up and rememebr that we're giant Blobs from planet Blobula, in sectar X of the Blobactic star sytem. And we'll think...wow...what a fucked up dream. All there is is experience so dream on! Ill spend a million life times in a dream. Why not? The worse part about a long dream is waking up and thinking...."Oh shit. Im here again..."

What if you spend so long in a dream that you begin to doubt it's a dream? And you begin to believe that you can actually fly and stuff in the real world. And then when you finally wake up, you'll be confused as hell, not knowing anymore what's real. I guess you'd have to be pretty mentally stable. Ahh, can't get Vanilla Sky outta my head!!!

It's like when you've been playing a video game for hours, and the game crashes or the batteries die or something. You've gotta do it all over again and it's not as interesting....

Damn. I've heard of a guy that spent 200 years in the dream world (2 hours and 30 minutes in reality). The longest I've spent was like a week . . . or something like that. But I'll try for a year and see how it goes. Post ya guys when it happens!

Its only scary if you're afraid of dreaming, and you can wake up any time you like if you are lucid. If you arent lucid, then the dream is or may as well be, your (experiential or phenomenological) life. Are the people who think it would be scary, afraid when awake? If not then you won't be afraid in a long dream. Plus in the big saga dreams you are probably watching cities rise and fall, fighting battles, getting married etc etc etc - its like an epic film and too involved to worry about not comming out of it...

      Make any sense?

Anyway time doesnt exist - its just one eternally changing, dancing present moment - NOW NOW NOW

i think like when you in the dream (non lucid) you dont think about how long youve been there or think youve been there

its only when you wake up that you feel like it was forever

and then if your lucid you can just make time speed up or whatever

it was very scary when i opened my eyes and saw only my clock whil my body was paralyzed i thought i was stuck in a lucid dream that i couldnt ever get out of only lasted for 5 seconds but felt scary

I get so sad when I wake up from a normal dream that was happy and lasted for a day! I cant imagine living for a year in a lucid dream and waking up to have everything back to normal. And I would be very scared that I couldnt wake up.

*shrugs* I have epic dreams all the time. Too bad it isn't ever the same dream for too long. They fade into each other, the storylines change, but they're all laced together as one dream. Just once I'd like to stick with the same dream for a while.

I'm not afraid to stay in a dream for long periods of time,or if I couldn't wake up I've always had this way to get out of my dreams when I new I had to wake up even when it was really hard.

but it would haft to depend on the dream if I wanted to stay in for that long

when I have dreams(non lucid) they are very short
but when mine are lucid I can stay in for as long as I would like!

I hate when I wake up from a really good dream where I'm with some girl and it's at a dramatic part or something.

I Must Be Dreaming - welcome to DV

It would be great to know how you do this! (Perhaps not in this thread) Many people report huge difficulties in staying in an LD (let alone actually geting into one), and there are reams of posts mentioning various methods for proplonging an LD, mostly by just a few minutes!
