      I'm a slow flier, suggestions?

Yeah, that about sums it up. Seriously slow, often slower than I could walk. I try to relax, calm my mind, abandon my fears/preconcieved notions/worries, etc and just DO IT, but I haven't had much luck.

So anyone have any suggestions to help me zoom? Thanks.

Focus on a far away point, and imagine yourself being pulled toward it. That about as much help as I can be, as I've never had this problem.

You can probably get more ideas on how to fly faster in another thread.

When I started flying I could barely get off the ground and was slow. Honestly I just had to practice. The more I flew the fast and higher I got. Now I can almost reach space and am as fast as light. I know that prolly doesn't help but that's how I did it.

I have this same problem, seeker. In my experience I have found that simply imagining how it would feel to fly fast is extremely helpful.

Not too long ago, I had a flying dream where I became lucid. I landed and took off. Sure enough, I started to fly at an unsatisfactorily (made up word?) slow speed. So, I simply forced my mind to imagine flying faster. I took a deeeeeep breath in (in the dream) and imagined that with that breath I was charging up a bunch of energy and also imagined the "goosebumps" feeling to make the "energy" realistic. Then I sort of threw my hands forward, simultaneously breathing out the whole breath and FULLY EXPECT FLY FAST, and voila. I zoomed so fast that everything was a blur. It was orgasmic!

Try that maybe? I hope it works for you too Good luck

In my last lucid dream I failed at everything BUT flying.

It was a weird version of flying though, it wasnt like flowing through the air, it was more like cutting through something solid. The air was really heavy and it took a lot of force to get going. I was going kind of slow. Not normal speed.

How are you planning to zoom with that kind of attitude? You need some adrenaline!

In my experience, being too calm and rational ends in me waking up. I'm always kind of hyper in my dreams, some sort of "Ooh, shiny!"-attitude.
If I want speed I take a running start and do the superman thing. There's no point in preparing for the flight, I'd be wasting precious dreamtime. If it fails you can always try again.

As some people have already said: the way you imagine flying probably has a great impact on your flying abilities. For me it feels like I'm being pushed (well, it's more like I'm pushing against the air behind me, as if I had jets on my feet). Sean's technique might work, But I like to be in full control, instead of being pulled towards something.
Rainman's supersayan charging might help, and if it doesn't at least you'll look awesome

      Good luck, man.

Naginata, thanks! It is true that when I flew quickly in the past I felt really excited. I've always used a "swimming" motion to fly, and lately it has become exhausting! Really the motion of my dream body is irrelevant. The flying all takes place in my MIND. I'll try getting excited and imagining how it would feel to zoom.

      Thanks everyone!

Perhaps you should try different types of flying. I've done every type of flying imaginable. Floating, gliding, levitating, soaring, drifting. I've found that flying in an arc instead of a straight line helps when I can't gain speed.

It very well may be that your last lucid influences your newest ones. Try going over the dreams you had where you flew without any problem, which should help. I've found that problems with flight repeat themselves in my lucid dreams.

      confidence
      a running start
      expect yourself to fly
      ask a DC for help
keep your eyes off the ground
imagine a gust of wind catching you
or, like the quote, throw yourself at the ground and miss
      jk about the last one
It took me a while to fly too
      you'll get it eventually

If your good at incubating dream scenarios then you can create a scenario where its necassary for you to fly away (like being chased by something) so that you feel the urge to do it, and instead of concentrating on how you "cant" youll be concentrating on just doing it to get away
I used that a little while ago

Ah lucky you! I can't go too fast like that. Anytime I'm going too fast doing anything in a dream (driving, biking, flying, etc), an extreme pulse of fear comes over me (like the feeling of hitting a 'dip' in a rollercoaster) and I black out or wake up.

You talk to vacuum cleaners and safes, you've had apple trees growing in your living room, tigers and horses in your dining room, an elephant in your bedroom. I've seen you locked in a jail in the middle of your living room and once someone swore they saw you floating in mid-air! How do you explain that, Major Nelson!?

The only time I ever flew in a dream was in a random DILD I had. I suddenly realized I was dreaming, looked up at the sky, and took off. I think I kind of invisioned myself flying as Neo (from the Matrix), so I flew *very very* fast, to the point where I was going so fast that the dream began to fade to white, forcing me to slow down so as to not wake myself. I suppose you could try to some quasi-role play, imagine you're Neo or Superman or something.

Imagine everything else moving. The ground, scenery, people, buildings, moving towards you, rather than you moving. To go higher, imagine everything else getting lower.
