i was playing four-square, yadah, yadah, when i thought : i wish this line would shorten! and it shortened until there where only four people. Then i was in A and i thought: you know, i bet this is a dream. But my dream was fading, so i focused on the camera in my hands (this is a dream, and my objective mind was not open!) and it still faded! Why?????
Sometimes, you just need to try to prolong the dream before you're aware that you're slipping back into a conscious, awakened state. Try to use prolongation techniques even when everything is running smooth.
Maybe you had reached the end of your REM period? It's no coincidence that one becomes lucid just before a natural awakening, because that's when the waking mind activates!
Practice and time will allow you to become lucid earlier in the dream.
