      scared of the dark

whenever I'm lucid in a dream and its dark, it creeps me out a little bit. regular dreams im ok, but lucid ones im scared.. One, because I'm conscious and aware that im in a dream and that anything can happen. I'm scarred a monster or sumthin will pop out. When im lucid and its dark, I always try to change the darkness to light (btw, I've had no success so far but I'm sure it's possible). I know that light levels are one of the few things you can't change in a lucid dream, but I'm determined to be the first (as far as i know). any tips on conquering my fear of the dark or just in general?
Do not try and bend the spoon. That's impossible. Instead...only try to realize the truth. There is no spoon. Then you'll see, that it is not the spoon that bends, it is only yourself.

Actually changing light levels is considered one of the harder things to do in a dream for some reason. I have found a couple of ways that work well for me but it took a while to come up with ones that did. My favorite one, if I'm out doors or in a room with a window, is to yell at the sun itself. Just scream at it to get its ass back up into the sky, then put your arms out in front of you and heave the sun (even if you can't see it, just imagine that you are pushing it back up) into the sky. Instant brightness

I'm totally scared of the dark too. But try to avoid these worries and fears because that more than anything is going to cause something scary to happen. Instead of even noticing that the dream is dark, stop and take a moment to stabilize and check out your hands and just look around down at yourself (so that nothing scary can come at you). Look at your shoes, count your fingers, etc. and hopefully by the time you are completely aware that it's your dream and nothing can hurt you, it will have also gotten lighter

Yelling does seem to be rather effective.
Thats how I stabalize my dreams as well as increase the vividness.

yelling shows that you absolutely want it to happen.

I used to be like this. Im over it now.

You can beat it just by realising it isnt real. However sometimes in the moment, its hard to do this.

In which case i get aggressive, and become angry. I shout "Go on, i dare you to jump out". And any fear i feel just makes me more angry and dangerous.

I just let the monsters come, but then tell them I am lucid, and am not scared. Then they leave to ruin someone else's dream.

My first couple of Ld's all started out in the dark. What works best for me if I cant get the lights to turn on is that I use my had as a flashlight.

I focus on making light come out of my palm and it usually works. In any case, going to a different room always helps, ive never moved into a room that had no lights on.

Not really. Unless you are in light sleep in a dark room, and the light coming through your eyelids is bleeding into the dream, it should be perfectly possible to make it as bright as you like, with the right amount or application of control. While a lot of people find it hard to adjust light levels, a nice, clean way to do it seems to be to just go somewhere bright. That way, you don't have to directly change the light levels in your environment.

As far as being afraid of the dark, consider: so what if a monster is hiding in the dark? What can it possibly do to you. It's your dream. You are entrirely safe. The worst thing you could do is be afraid; it could mess with your lucidity.

I watch horror movies. I can always tell when they're about to startle me, but I still get scared before it happens.

Being lucid and being in control are not one in the same. It's possible to be lucid enough to know that a wolf could jump out of the darkness and bite you, yet not be able to prevent it.

Ya, when you're in the dark, lucid, and realize that at any time a monster could pop out before you have a chance to burn it, make it dissapear, make it turn into a chocolate mousse (), or whatever...

suddenly your lucid powers don't seem so powerful anymore.

      And then it strikes!

I often get very scared in lucid dreams, knowing that anything can pop out, and knowing that something probably will now that I'm thinking about it. My preferred solution is, quite simply, to scream. Simple, and effective. I find it takes my mind off the darkness, and nothing that pops out can scare me any more, because I'm already screaming. Just make sure that you aren't actually screaming in real life.

I agree with this. My lucid dreams always start out in the dark. I think I even posted about it, one time. But I've come to be good at changing light from dark. Yes, yelling always works for me, especially if it has to do with the weather. If it's dark, and I want it to be light out, I'll either yell out "And there is light!" or I'll be walking and tell myself "when I turn the corner, it will be daytime". Most of the time, it works.

I like the dark. I always look up at the lucid night sky and appreciate it's ridiculousness. (Galaxies! Nebulae! Oh my!)

To be honest when i started to have lucid dreams i was scared to because it was very dark and i didnt know what was going on.
Once i read a few things on lucid dreaming i became more aware on what i could do with dreaming. Now when i know i am in a lucid dream, i can control what happens, and can change any circumstance that i am not happy with.
I am sure within time you will be able to do this too.. .
Maybe once you know you are in a dream, and it is dark, maybe if you go towards another room.. Maybe this will help??

Well, sure. But my point is, the wolf can't possibly harm you, and knowing this can help to reduce fear levels.

I just accept the danger. So what if a wolf is going to attack me? I wonder what it will feel like. I wonder what will really happen once it reaches me. Sometimes I become lucid in bad dreams, and although I can force myself awake, I chill out to see what will happen next. If someone tries to cut my arm off, I just say, "What the hell do you think you're doing?? Go bother someone else!"
