How did you learn to fly?

I'm having a little trouble flying. I've only tried superman style so far (jumping with arms outstretched in front of me) but I can't quite get it. How did you learn to fly? (I'm a very logical person, and so I need a trick 'cause of gravity)

Why don't you try a jetpack or wings?

Oh that would be a long history, it took me 8 lucids to learn, so it was like this:
      1st: Run and jump, failed.
2nd: Run and jump putting energy on my feet so they would cancel gravity, kinda worked, but were only able to levitate some seconds.
3rd: Run and jump, put more energy and try to become my own center, horrible results, too wild of up down flying, nearly died <.<
4th: Jump and do the same repulsion trick, only got me to levitate, but at least with full control.
5h: Run and jump while trying to learn the gravity on my enviroment (it changes for me) then repulsion and impulse with wind control to move, so wild and the gravity used were inconsistent while moving, failed again.
6th: Jump and levitation with some small movement.
7th: Gravitaty study, no try at all of flying, but touch things on the place and base energy used on that to move them, gain control.
8th: Touch the wall and floor, learn the gravity and make repulsion along with wind control based on that, then started to fly, didn't enjoy it that much so stopped, at least I learned it <.<

Thats only me tough... dunno if that would work for others. So silly when started lol

here is how i learned to fly
first off even though this is cheesy you need to understand that whatever you "know" you can do you can do

first run then jump and out stretch your arms and use them to glide

next jump straight up vertically and try to fly superman style with arms in front of your head and stuff

then just jump and try to fly with out using any arm movements, or even just try to hover for a while or something

when you have mastered hovering then you can just fly by "willing" yourself to go said direction (it is hard to explain)

to change speed when i am fly i imagine that i am pushing past a barrier almost and then like a mini-shock wave goes off and i fly faster.....(again hard to explain, almost like pushing past sound barrier.....)

i hope this helped...you could just check out the flying guide here

lastly if this did not help at all and you can use telekinesis proficiently then you could just do it on yourself to fly....

Hovering is pretty easy, then just getting higher and higher. It's how I started out.

For some reason though, I've lately been using a piece of rope tied to the moon ...

In my first LD ever I jumped off an ocean cliff. There was this beautiful sunset. I closed my eyes while I was falling, and told myself that I would not hit the water, but feel the air instead. Later, when I already should have hit the water, I opened my eyes again and guess what: I was flying just inches above the water at high speed. My hand even touched the water at one point because I was spinning around my axis.
      It was an amazing experience.

Nowadays I just jump up. That's it really.

Rarely have I flown, but the times I have done so, it didn't require much thought. I just sort of shot up into the air, and went from there.

Whenever I LD, I try to fly. I naturally use my feet as rocket boosters, and take it from there.

Try it, and see if it works for you. ^_^

      ah, the famous learning-to-fly journey.

I've had my fair share of crash and burns with learning to fly, and yes, as someone said, you need to work with what you currently know how to do. *granted, if you can pretend there's no gravity, then you've already won.

so if you can't get the idea out of your head that gravity exists, you'll definitely need some sort of aid. it could be anything, doesn't matter (and it doesn't have to agree with physics, whatever gives your imagination that boost to make you think you can fly)....jetpack, cape, wings, chakra (like Naruto), rocket boots (like in the Mario Bros movie), a $1000 pair of Jordans, etc.

but really, my flying adventures happen mostly when I don't try to it, and especially when I'm not even thinking of flying. anyways, how long you been trying to fly? cuz really, if it's been a while, I'd rather not risk waking up wasting time trying to fly when I could be spending the dream time doing something I already know I can accomplish within the dream.

I just stand, put one arm up, and acknowledge that gravity doesn't exist. Then I feel energy flow through me, and can fly.

For me, often a jet pack works well, or at least an imaginary jet pack. I don't actually have to summon the jet pack, just think about having it on my back. One never really appears on my back, but (and if you read my recent DJ entry you'll see what im talking about) if I press down my thumbs as if I had a dual handled jet pack on I can control throttle. The next step is controling the wind, which, in my experience was the next really hard thing about flying. Whenever I would try to fly the wind would become very heavy. I still have this problem from time to time, but getting used to it slowly.

I've only had a handfull of flying dreams, and they were not lucid. While in the dream, the method of flying (different method for each dream) made complete logical sense to me. Once awake, I realized how absurd the method was.

One dream, I needed a small ball which I simply held in my hand. The ball, when squeezed tightly, allowed me to float and sort of fly. In another dream, I simply ran really fast for a long time, and then jumped, pulling my knees and elbows close to my stomach while flexing my biceps. Yet another dream had me floating when others supported my body as I gently lifted away from them in a lying down position. But in a few of the dreams, I do remember having to exert a large amount of energy by flexing my muscles. I haven't flown or floated for a long time, but I really like the sensation!

I was able to fly in my non-lucids, so when I started this, doing it in lucids proved to be no problem. I imagine a falling feeling, like you get when you go over the top of a roller coaster, and...I...just...float...away.....

Well, I learned to use telekinesis early on, before I learned to fly well. After one Lucid where I was trying to fly by flapping my arms, I thought about how ridiculous that is. There is no gravity in a dream, and if there was, flapping arms obviously wouldn't help.

It then occurred to me that I should be able to move myself around the same way that I move objects around, using telekinesis. In my next Lucid I tried it, and it worked beautifully. I just grabbed onto myself with my own mind and off I went. I had perfect control.

So, I always suggest learning TK, to learn to fly.

When I first start to fly it almost feels like I'm swimming, I have to jump and then use my arms and legs to propel myself forward almost as if I were under water. After a while of this flying becomes easier and I can quit the doggie paddle, or it kind of fizzles out and I end up back on the ground.

I learned to fly in my dreams when I was a kid. It started with me running around the track at my elementary school. Then I'd jump and keep running. Over time the jumps got longer and higher. I started to add some swimming motions when I was in the air to stay up longer. Eventually I didn't have to run or jump to get up. And later I didn't have to "swim" to fly. Now I usually can fly in any position just by wanting to.

I didn't really learn to fly but it seems to happen an awful lot in my lucids nonetheless - guess that's a good thing even thought I don't ever intend to fly.

I only learned to fly last week actually, hehe I was having trouble so I asked a DC for help, she told me to have my arms outstreched and have a good run up and it worked!

I'm still a pretty terrible flyer though, when I have my arms outstreched they feel like wings, I can feel all the forces acting on them like them supporting them weight of my body and the lift pushing them up. To gain height I have to angle my flight path upward, so I glide more than fly. When I try superman flight style though I can't generate enough lift and slowly float back to Earth in a ungraceful manner.

I can also hover by standing upright and using the palm of my hands to blast air at the ground like rocket boosters to give my lift and tilt my body for direction. Hope this helps you!
