      The rubbing of the hands

Last night i had a lucid, but then my dream started to fad so, then i started rubbing my hands together and that prolonged the dream for about 5 or 10 minutes. But then i felt my eyes opening i tried to close them but they opened all the way and the dream was over. How long should i rub my hands together to prolong my lucids? Are there other techniques besides spinning (which the last time i did it just changed dream scenes) that prolongs lucid dreams? And why does rubbing your hands prolong lucid dreams?

Rubbing your hands prolongs lucid dreams because it forces your mind to create the feeling of your hands rubbing together. You might also want to try touching things in your environment for the same kind of tactile sensation. I've found that licking things will strengthen my lucid dreams more than touching things though. You could try looking closely at things to stimulate your visual sense. Another thing you can do is yell something out like "Increase lucidity!", or if you are good at controlling the DCs in you LDs have them yell at you to stimulate your auditory sense. All in all, just try various things to stimulate your senses and see what works best for you.

Things in the dream I assume. Another thing that I have been testing out is examing things closely and look for detail. Things don't excist in your dream if you don't pay attention to them right? Also, to add to the screaming out to increase lucidity, I find talking to myself and hearing my voice boost my lucidity by a bit. But then I sound like a mad man walking down the lucid street talking to my self haha.

Sweet! I will have to try this and make note of it. This place is filled with useful information about lucid dreaming. I will have to swim through many threads here and start gathering noted, perhaps there is a page of terms and explanations? So or so, thanks for the input!!!

Even when you feel yourself waking up, rub your hands (in the dream). If you do wake up, stay calm and pretend the dream is still going on. Imagine that you are still lucid in the dream, and you might get sucked back in.

It may have been the natural ending to your REM period. In that case, do not despair! Your account indicates that you are getting good at lucid dreaming. If you got a whole 7ish minutes extra from rubbing your hands, then you've made it past the first hurdle that so many struggle with (others will wake immediately after becoming lucid). As you continue to lucid dream, you will become lucid earlier in the dream, and will have more time.

If rubbing hands works for you and you can get another 5-10 mins out of the dream then I'd say continue to do that. You could of course experiment more once you're sure your dream environment is stable enough. Try touching anything you can see, like a table, walls, grass etc. I'd be interested to know if most people on here just rub their hands out of view or if they raise their hands to eye level first so that you can actually see your dream hands being rubbed?

I've only had one LD and I was hanging from a brick ledge about 300 feet in the air and so all my attention was on my hands in the first place, I didn't dare rub my hands because I'd fall of the ledge lol.

Oops, just thought of something else hand related. What would happen if I practised hand rubbing in RL as an RC practise instead of just looking at my hands? Would it be possible to have it happen in a normal dream like other methods and how would this affect the dream environment clarity wise?

Yeah, one of the reasons that i've been having lucid dreams more during the week is, because i started taking sleeping pills and now i sleep well. Other people's posts have helped me as well, i have more time now to lucid dream.
