Dreams are tricky in the sense that if you focus too hard on a specific action, you'll lose focus on the surroundings and the dream destablizes. (Either you wake up or you lose visual clarity, or lose yourself back in the dream)
You'll find that the vividness of a lucid dream will vary from dream to dream, but you'll get alot more clarity when you relax and observe and try to make small changes at first, or if your having a dry spell, just relax on the intensity of the control you impose on it.
For me flying was tricky, I could fly no problem the first moment I knew I was Lucid, it was flying too fast or too high, focusing only on the act of flying that would "Destabalize" everything else because I'm not paying attention to anything but that.
The sheer excitement alone from the sensation of flying would originally wake me up, but over time I realized that you lose detail and clarity when you rush something like that, so I started just floating around and that stablized things a bit. Not always, but it helps.
