you can look at your hands as an RC too, to stay focused in a dream i usually focus on an object in the room/area

i try to hold on to the dream scape sometimes... it never works thouge
I think it depends on what works for the different dreams I am having. Sometimes concentrating on a certain object works...sometimes not. Usually using verbal commands help like "increase lucidity" or "increase visuals" etc. Rubbing my hands together sometimes works too. Just depends. Read around...there is a crap load of posts about this topic.
