      over-analytical

Every time I try to get LD's I always sabotage myself.

I'll go to sleep convincing myself of what will happen. I'll meet up with my best friend and we'll go ride a dragon or whatever.

Then as I'm waiting for sleep, the "what if" starts to take over.

"What if I see something else?"
"What if I start having a nightmare?"

Then, I'll start to imagine all the terrible dream sequences I could have instead of flying on a dragon with my friend.

Like I just read that while WILDing you may have hallucinations. I start thinking of peaceful hallucinations, and then I start thinking of bad ones.

How can I get past this self-sabotage?

It's a boundry thats doesn't actually exist, its all in your mind. You have to know that these things wont happen, and then they wont.

There is stuff such as clearing your mind or forcing these images away but really its a kind of 'enlightenment' process. Once you know its in your head, and really know not just be aware. Then you wont worry.

      Hope this helps.

I sabatoge myself all the time. My fears are way more likely to materialize than my desires. I've found that when that happens, I just change it back and try again. That is, if I don't lose lucidity first.

I had a lucid dream like this a few weeks ago where I started questioning what if I see something scarey? Unfortunantly something that I would be scared of in real life(an alien) did appear but I wasnt the least bit scared in my dream, infact I had a conversation with it.

Just let the fears be, dont try anything. Sooner or later they'll either go away on there own or your fear for them will.

I used to have this problem. I summoned a couple of scary things. Especially in my very first lucid, that one was probably the worst. I've learned since then to just remain positive. I know what to do in case something scary does happen, I know how to manipulate the dream. And I also know that I should always go into a lucid dream highly motivated and with dream goals that I am really excited about. This way, those thoughts rarely cross my mind and when they do, I simply dismiss them and focus on whatever my exciting goal is. During the day, try to cultivate the idea of "even if something happens that frightens me, it's just a dream so I should relax". Maybe even build it into your reality checking and dream journaling? Go through your DJ, try to take past dreams and make up scenarios where something scary happened, and how you defused the situation. Maybe even come up with a plan, then intentionally summon something scary just to deal with it?

If something scary happens, try to ignore or befriend it. Taking a positive and friendly attitude has always helped me out in these situations.

See them all the way through.

"What if I start having a nightmare? What if I start falling into a bottomless pit?"

      ...

Instead of trying to shut the thought out, think about what you could do.

"If I start falling into a bottomless pit, I'll realize that I'm actually flying into the night sky, upside down. Once I right myself, I notice that it is actually dusk, and I am flying around New York City. ... There is Spiderman there. Actually, I am Spiderman. I start webslinging all over the town, eager to kick Mysterio's ass."

Every time a disturbing thought pops up, think on your feet, and think it through. Good luck!
