It seems like it would be possible to make a dream seem longer than it really was, but I haven't really tried it on purpose. I have had a few dreams that seemed to last days when it had only been a few hours in waking life, and I often had relatively long dreams in the nine minutes between whacking the snooze button on my alarm clock :P
It is entirely possible to make a dream seem like it lasted incredibly longer than it actually did. This is more commonly referred to as Time Dilation within the dream world. Has been attempted attempted and achieved by a numerious amount of people.
research indicates that time in the dream world passes the same as time in the dream world.
However when dreaming your mind has a tendency to cut out the dull bits.
For example if you decided you wanted to walk from a house to a familiar shop, rather than a dull 20 minutes pounding the pavement your mind tricks you by giving the impression of having walked there.
So a short or even normal length dream can seem Epic.
I've heard that you can; I know a method to lengthen the dream and make it more vivid. I'm still starting the process of trying it out (it takes time) and so, I'll let you know in a few weeks if I start to see results.
