Can't avoid summoning my demon when lucid

Last night I achieved lucidity for the first time since actually being interested in lucid dreaming. I have been lucid many times before, but this is my first lucid dream while keeping a dream journal.

I seem to be very good at controlling lucidity when I come to the realisation I'm dreaming. Last night in particular was extraordinarily vivid and when I became lucid I felt like I was in Stage 4 lucidity straight away. I know that I could have levitated and flown away within nanoseconds because that is just the degree of lucidity and control that I felt. I am very very good at summoning people, objects and scenery. They materialise almost instantly when I think of them.

But I have a problem when I achieve lucidity, and that's an urge to think about my demon. My demon happens to be the girl from The Ring. I don't know why it happens, but when I have full control over my dream some part of me has to think of this evil girl... almost as if to prove to myself that I'm dreaming. So what tends to happen is I will picture the girl in my mind's eye and then BAM... I turn around and she's standing RIGHT in front of me, as vivid and real as ever, about to kill me... accompanied by screaming sound effects. This is enough to scare the skin off anybody, and I wake up in a sweat and heart racing as soon as it happens.

My question is how can I stop myself from thinking about her and what techniques can I use when lucid to take my mind off her? Does it help to spin around as soon as you're lucid to clear the slate? I'd like to hear what people have to say on this, and whether anyone has had the same problem.

      Thanks

I've never experienced this but if you are at such a high level of lucidity as you claim then you should be able to make this demon disappear as fast as you "summoned" it. I suggest in your next lucid dream, if you get the same thought and she appears just keep telling yourself she isn't real and she isn't scary. Imagine her as a funny cartoon; demand her to leave. At a high level of lucidity, and with the control you say you have, you should be able to make her disappear rather quickly.

Again, I don't have this problem so I'm no expert. Good luck

It's not that I can't make her disappear, or turn her into something else. But it's the shock of seeing her in the first place that causes me to wake up suddenly. It's very common to wake from a completely vivid lucid dream by being too shocked or emotionally affected. So it isn't just a matter of making her disappear or transform into something harmless.

Ha! I've had something similar, it's like a compulsive disorder, anything you try to do to take your mind of her will have the opposite effect. The only way to beat it is to do the unexpected.. like making sweet love to her.

what i would do, is if she happens to appear in a dream, just realize you cannot be harmed by her.. just think of something for her to do inside your head.. like visualize her doing jumping jacks, and have her start doing them.. or just honestly, make her vanish from your site..

I have had nightmares that scared the crap out of me, but once I become lucid I confronted them and overcame them.. This is the same situation. The only way your going to get through this is if you face your "Fear" if thats what you want to call it..

Just understand and know, that you are the one who is in full control, not her.. what you want her to do, is all up to you....

Maybe you should try summoning a kitten or some flowers instead.

This is going to sound ridiculous.

If at all possible, be unpredictable. Give her a hug, a high five, a gift, anything. Deep down, you're the only who decides how she's going to act. If you really think about it, she IS you, in a sense, as is everything else. With such a random, sympathetic act, I doubt the dream will turn out badly. Maybe she's not so evil after all? Or maybe she's here to pester someone else? If you just establish some sort of plot in your mind, some sort of anticipation of what will/should happen, then you can probably affect the dream for the better.

The point is that you're lucid -- you always have at least some control over what's going on, you choose whether or not to "feed" the negative side of the dream.

The time to beat this is when you're awake. You've formed a very strong mental connection between being lucid in a dream and the image of the girl. This connection is a mental habit, and persists accross the boundary between sleep and waking. I would suggest practicing becoming lucid while you're awake, and imagining other images that come to mind. Effectively you'll be forming a new habit and the old habit will disappear. Close your eyes and imagine that you're dreaming something (like being at work, etc.), then imagine that you've just realized you're dreaming. Now imagine anything else happening, like maybe you realize your clothing has changed to something very stylish. Chances are the first several times you try this (while awake) the girl will still show up. This should subside over time, though.

Another exercise you could try during the day is to confront the image while you're awake. There's something which still creeps you out about that image; analyze it, and figure out what that aspect is. Perhaps it's how the girl is always facing down, and then suddenly looks up and the camera zooms in on her face (with the screaming sound). What happens next? Okay, she's a little wet girl with seaweed or something on her, and she screams... but now she's just standing there. When the image is no longer interesting, you'll have no reason to focus on it. The idea is not to run away, or to try and overpower it. The image is part of your mind now, encorporate it, understand it.

i have something to add, which goes for pretty much any demon/monster or nightmare: if i'm ever confronted by something like this (or if i need to escape a nightmare), i raise my arms about halfway, look toward the sky, and gradually utter a huge yell (and mirror that yell with intense concentration).

I know it sounds silly, but when i do this it makes me feel as though i'm tapping into some sort of infinite godly power, something that would certainly make this demon fear for its life -- as you have now become the monster, not them.

Try it in real life -- tense all of your muscles, especially in the face, and execute the movements previously described. It's pretty compelling.

Might not be the best/most permanent solution for this case, but it's something to keep in mind if you ever need it.

I had a similar problem, i'd have an LD and i'd think of scary thoughts like horror movies and ghosts and shit like that and they would appear. You'll grow out of it hopefully, i did.

Try closing your eyes. Nightmares tend to get worse when they're resisted. Surrendering and accepting the scenario tends to dull out the terror to nil. If you attempt this and have any success, please PM me with how the results worked out. I've been messing around with this when the opportunity presents itself.

my only suggestion would to be to not give in to your fear of it...because giving into to the fear is basically surrendering your power to it...once you realize that it does not in fact have power over you, it should no longer be an issue.

Man up. haha... no really, its your dream. What I would do is think of some super powers, that are bad ass and amazingly powerful, and LOOK forward to seeing her in your dream. and OMG the girl from the ring? scared of her? have you seen the movie? she doesn't do shit, weakling, you can think of a million ways to beat her. Just use your imagination .
